Well, our marriage wasn't really in trouble but we both, my wife and I, had fallen into our own routines over the past 8 years that,

Every night, after dinner and putting the kids to bed, she would head off to "her" room (the living room) to watch her DVR and I'd head back to "dads" room (the family room to either watch my DVR, play 360, or play guitar. She had little interest in the programming on my DVR and I had little interest in her programs. Occasionally, we would spend time together playing some games on Xbox Live Arcade but most of my 360 time was spent playing First Person Shooters such as Call of Duty.

So, in essence, even though we lived in the same house, we didn't share much "couple" time together. We were the two ships that passed in the night.....until....

....we found a shared love in board gaming. I'm not talking about the stuff we grew up on, I'm talking about those strange German and Euro games I had started reading about on the various Internet forums I was visiting. I started asking around for game suggestions and of course found The Geek early on.

As our collection has grown, so has our marriage. Now we play a game (or two or three) almost every night after we put the kids to bed. The televisions stay off, the 360 gathers dust, we turn on some music, grab a beverage, and spend 3 hours or so laughing, strategizing, teasing, and growing stronger as a couple.

The following list is a snapshot of our journey to a healthy and loving marriage. Each game will be rated in the following manner for Her and Him:

kiss = Love It!
= Like It
Neutral
= Don't Like It
yuk = Hate It!

We also just bought Hey! That's My Fish. We've only played it a few times. My kids love the penguins that come with the Deluxe set. And while the setup can be a PITA, it really isn't that bad. It's a fun game but not one of our favorites.

Got this one in a trade for Carcassonne - The Castle. Probably not my best trade. But we were never going to play the castle again so no big loss.

This game is fine but not really our "type" of game. We may play it occasionally but we've just got so many better games to play that it just may end up traded.

We received this one in part of a trade (along with St. Petersburg) for Caylus. We played last night and loved it. I can't imagine we will have the desire to play Lost Cities or Balloon Cup again.

Fun game with decent strategy and doesn't take up a lot of time or space.

This came came as part of the Caylus trade. It's still shrink-wrapped and I'm not sure if we are going to keep it. Do I open it and try it or just trade it away as is? Do shrink-wrapped games carry much more value than those not wrapped? Does this game fit into our library, match our style? We would love to hear some opinions.

edit to add: OK, over this past weekend we decided to bust open St. Petersburg and give it a try. We instantly fell in love with it. We played the first 3 games incorrectly (after every phase we were moving the upper row to the bottom and then discarding them all at the end of the Trading phase. This resulted in a very quick depletion of the Worker/Green Card phase and the game end). After we figured out how to play correctly, the game really clicked with us. We love it!

Got Samurai in a trade for Mr. Jack. We haven't played it yet but my wife thinks she's going to like it based on what she's read.

But I have the same questions as I did for St. Petersburg. Does it fit in our library? Based on other games that we've liked, is it going to work for us? This one has already been opened so we are definitely going to give it a shot, maybe tonight.

Edit to add: We just finished a game and both felt that it was ok but nothing that got us too excited. It didn't help that the game ended in a tie. We'll give it a few more try's but it may end up on the trading block.
