We've all been there. Ready to start a game with five players, only to have a sixth show up. I'll admit that our group's first impulse is to split into two groups of three. But maybe we're being too hasty? There's something to be said for playing at least one game with the entire group.

Here are 25 balms to soothe your six-player woes, sorted alphabetically.

Page two has bonus coverage of 25 more games that may not be top tier choices, but are worth considering with six.

Page three and beyond is for all the games I've missed. Please add your own favorites!

This is usually one of the first games I go to get if the group isn't necessarily the kind that would appreciate robo-rally.

This is an elegant deduction game which essentially functions as a mostly cooperative game against one other player, who plays the criminal trying to escape. Always encourages good table-talk.

Not everyone will agree with me, but I think this game functions amazingly well as a six-player. It isn't for everybody though, as the game inevitably takes more of a turn toward messing with the other players. You often have to share points because there simply aren't enough elements being made at any one time.

Not surprisingly, this is also the type of scenario where the expansion "The Count of Carcassone" really shines, and pretty much the only place where it shines.

TBH if I have 6 players I do prefer to play Mare Nostrum: Mythology Expansion. Senji is used when it occurs that we're missing the 6th player.

For me it is a good game for at least 4 player. The more the better.
Senji is much quicker than Mare Nostrum: Mythology Expansion and this factor sometimes comes into play.

When I've got 6 players who refuse to play either Mare Nostrum: Mythology Expansion or Senji I propose Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game. Sometimes it helps mo to change their minds. Otherwise I've got an opportunity to eat their brains.

If you're like me and only have the 4 player version, then you need more than one copy. Some versions have up to 8 players in it.

Anyways, this works with any amount of players. It's basically a step up from Bingo, with actual decisions.

Take it to the Limit is more advanced, but for me, the basic Take it Easy! is better, because there's less to worry about. It's probably a matter of opinion.

Six shooters with six players? Got that right Pilgrim.

*Give each person one assigned card from a normal deck of cards. Shuffle all assigned cards up and draw one at a time for turn order. SO MUCH BETTER then each "side" taking their turn.

People take much bigger gambles this way.

Heres my entire list of games for 6. Its based on the "Best With" poll data on the game pages.

And BSG seems like a great answer for your header. It it best with 5 or 6. So if you don't know if you 6th is going to make it, unpack BSG and you are safe either way.

Not sure if the game works well absorbing a new player after it has already started (somehow they are assuming they are a human and adding another card into the human/cylon deck as appropriate).

The game on which they should have based Railroad Tycoon.

I much prefer this over Age of Steam:

(1) Plays in about an hour
(2) Plays better with more players (it is not a good 2 player game, unlike some of the Age of Steam variants posted here)
(3) Unlike Age of Steam, you are more inclined to use your opponent's tracks, so it feels more interactive

Unfortunately, it's a bit hard to find.

Saboteur is a fast and fun semi-cooperative card game that can play up to 10, I think. I've only played it twice, with 5 and 6, and both times were a lot of fun, so I think this is a great choice for 6, especially for a semi-filler (plays in about 30-45 minutes).

I like Jamaica the best with 2-4 players, but it does play up to 6. With 5 or 6 I think it goes on too long for what it is and there's a fair amount of downtime as the turns go around. Actually, both times I've played with 6 it was mostly new players, so I think if you had 6 experienced players who aren't prone to AP in any way and just play their turns without thinking too much about it (and really, it's pretty arbitrary, anyway), then it's probably a decent choice for 6.
