Most games are in the $30 - $60. There are others that are very expensive. Some are worth the cost, some are not. Here is what I think. What do you think?

If you have experience with other expensive games (Devil's Cauldron, Case Blue, etc) let us know the verdict.

OK - so I've got the original MB version, the revised version, and even the Guadalcanal version. Those all come in around $45, but now it's the "Anniversary Edition" which comes in at $100 list. Haven't bought this one (yet?), but I'm guessing it's worth it because there's hardly a copy to found out there (plus with 600+ pieces that's under 16 cents a piece!). At the same time, I can't help but wondering if I'm just buying the same game over and over again... shake

I can tell you that I was exited about the release of this game. I have nearly every edition of A&A released. I played it at the last BGG.con and it immediately fell of my list of wanted games. I would have bought it at $45.00 but not for the current price.

It's totally worth it. Read some of the reviews. Plus, the game itself is beautiful. Also, it is a limited edition, so if you want to sell it later, you'll get a decent return, perhaps even more than what you paid for it.

It's already difficult to find a copy (as some other BBGers have reported) so if you can get your hands on it, go for it.

This game is worth every penny. Best A&A game to date. I'd chosse this over any two of my ~$50 games any day. This may change with the upcomming release of AAP40 & AAE40. Time will tell.

RRP is around $60US but probably sells online for around $45 USD, so its not as expensive as some games listed here but it is getting up there.

The production values and quantity of components are excellent, on par with Arkham Horror. However, I've only played a half game which lasted for 3 hours and came away with mixed feelings despite the promise of an immersive cyberpunk narrative game. I can't see this one getting to the table more than once a year, if at all, so it seems "not worth it" to me.

Like most wargames, this one requires repeated play to get the most out of it. Asymmetrical characters, shifting game goals and situations, and an incredibly unique set of subsystems. Teaching the game requires you to prepare your presentation, and it really needs to come out regularly, but I think there's a fantastic game here, especially if you're a Blade Runner fan.

There should be a choice between Very Worth it and Barely worth it. This one falls right in between. However, since it's worth it I"m not going to say barely worth it as that suggests an unworthy game. But I might not go as far as very worth it.

I would recommend War in the Pacific via Matrix Games. Far more realistic and detalied. Mind you it is a computer wargame. Second to none for a grand strategic wargame IMHO. Every Ship, every unit. India, China USA Canada etc. HUGE!

You can get this classic for about $150, but Ive seen it over $220. I know its a lot of money, but that's a lot of army figures (different for each epoch), and the city/capital pieces are great. It also has some neat forts and monuments. I design wargames and this game helped many of my prototypes greatly. Plus, as a risk variant with VPs and deep historical theme, it gets a great reception among non-gamer friends. If you can get your hands on it with a good deal, it's totally worth it.

Oh god yes! Best game of its time and still one of the very best games. The only problem is... considerable. You need seven people... who are all good sports... and fourteen hours.

I have a deep hatred for the expansion, Advanced Civilization. Makes the game much more playable by gutting the things that make the game great.

I would go to prison voluntarily if there were a sufficient number of acceptable Civilization players there.

For the last month or so I have been agonizing whether or not to get this one. The orders of battle are done in excellent detail and simulating the Overlord campaign at this scale is just epic.

Yet, if I buy this, it is very unlikely to see any table (or carpet) time.

On the other hand ... argh... help me decide

Is it worth it?

I bought this one after agonizing as well and honestly... it was set up in my 3rd bedroom for a few weeks but i didnt get much played. then i got more into panzer grenadier so I am probably only likely to get this out again anytime soon just to play the smaller scenarios like Cherbourg or Epsom

One thing to note is that these prices are all the Retail Prices. I know myself, and many other gamers will buy from online stores, which usually offer the games at around 35% off.

So yes, Combat Commander's retail cost is $79 but it cost me more like $50.

Worth it: game gets played enough and is fun enough that I feel I got my money's worth. (Generally, $1 per player-hour...)

Not Worth it: it was fun, but it's never going to hit my $1 per player-hour (Wizard Kings), or it hit the $1 per player hour but wasn't fun (Lemmings in space).

Waste of money: not only not fun, and not making $1 per player-hour, but either broken or badly flawed, or not even a fun read.

This is true of nearly all games so it is relative when stating list price or online sale price.

It seems to me that these polls are going to be laden with positive selection bias, because anyone who is willing to spend $70 retail on a given game is already demonstrating an economic inclination towards that game.
