Welcome to the online version of The Game Bistro. We're a friendly crowd, usually willing to play the game you brought with you. But, what's that? Oh, well if you didn't bring game, perhaps you would enjoy a game from our shelves...

So cruise the shelves, and if you see a game we ought to play - make a comment. Visitors to game night are welcome, so if you're a traveling geek visiting Albuquerque, drop me a line and we'll have you over for game night.

I've tried listing the game a variety of ways over the years. I had theme shelves, four shelves devoted to the top 100, and various other approaches over the life of this geeklist. Nowadays I am simply listing them alphabetically.

Comments welcomed!

I have a nice selection of 3M games. 3M produced games during the 1960;s and into the 1970's. These games often came in a handsome slipcase bookshelf edition.

Acquire - I have two copies of this. The first edition has lovely wooden tiles, while the later 1968 edition has nice plastic tiles. Great game about buy outs and stock appreciation.

Bazaar - Clever game about trading. Works great as a 2p game, but can handle up to 4 players.

Breakthru - 2p abstract battle

Executive Decision - Business game

Foil - Word game

Jumpin - 2p abstract

Mr. President - Great game about running for President of the USA. Can be played either as a 2p or 4p game.

Oh Wah Ree - Mancala

Quinto - Sort of a numbers version of Scrabble. A game my family played during my childhood.

Stocks and Bonds

Twixt - 2p abstract

Venture - This is not a bookshelf game, but what is known as a "Butterbox" game. Regardless of packaging, it is a business themed card game.

This was the "Game Bistro Game of the Year" for 2008.

Agricola entered the collection in 2007. It has been played 25+ times.

An older game that I added to the collection in 2012. An impressive box that demands a shelf to itself. This game has attracted a few fans at the game club. In fact, it is Wolfgang Kramer's homage to Sid Sackson's game of Acquire. We've now played Big Boss so much, that it prompted me to take another look at Acquire. I now appreciate Acquire more due to my plays of Big Boss. However, given a choice, I still will select Big Boss over Acquire.

The Games:

A House Divided - An older, favorite American Civil War games.
Across Five Aprils - Civil War
Battle for Germany - older SPI folio game. Both a battle and a race!
Battle Masters - Miniatures Lite
Cry Havoc(and several others in this series) - Medieval skirish warfare game.
Football Fever - featuring some of the coolest dice ever.
Manoeuvre - Battle game. You can pick between 8 nations to play.
Meander - Great concept for a game - physics in action!
Melee/Wizard - Great man-to-man combat system. Wizard adds magic.
Memoir '44 - WWII miniatures game, easy to learn.
Ogre/GEV - Science Fiction battles involving cybernetic tanks.
Pond Hockey - A fast playing hockey game.
Stratego - Classic hidden forces game.
Sumo! - Two giant plastic sumo wrestlers duke it out.
Time's Square - Can you attract the cast of characters to your speakeasy?
Whacky Wit - Pac Man: The Boardgame. Tremendous production values.

I have a few Columbia "block wargames". I like this system. It leaves you guessing to some degree, and it makes for easy step reduction losses. Here are the ones I have:

Crusader Rex - Good game about the battles around Jerusalem.

Napoleon - I have an older Avalon Hill edition. The painted blocks are especially nice.

War of 1812 - One of the first block wargames, and a bit lighter in feel.

Quebec 1759 - Another earlier and lighter in weight wargame.

Hammer of the Scots - Yet to try this one.

Richard III - Yet to try this one.
