Important public announcement from okiedokie. Test your forecasting prowess. Also posted in Thrift guild news. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the interest of "What the heck" and "Why not?" I am setting up the Thrift Forecast GG Giveaway! How does it work? All you have to do is forecast one of the categories listed below, contribute some gold for the pot and win the pot.
Yup, here are the icky details:
* You will need to send in your forecast for one of these categories: * The highest average rating of a game found for the week. This number will be taken off the geeklist rather than the internal number presented when you browse the game entry itself. (there is sometimes difference and I don't know why but I thought I should clarify) Code = AVERAGE * The highest rank of a game found for the week. Code = RANK * The largest number of duplicate games found for the week (These must have the same BGG id number to be considered a duplicate. If 2 copies of Dark Tower are found and three copies of Guesstures are found, the winning guess is 3) Code = DUP * The number of prototypes found for the week. This is used for games not yet found in the database. Code = NEWBGG
* Send a tip for 1 gg and a message with the topic "FORECAST - "codename - value of guess. That gg amount will be added to the 1 gg seed that I am placing in the pot to get it started. Guesses will be taken for the week starting the following Monday. Guesses entered this week will be for the week starting May 3rd. You may guess multiple times, but each guess will have to accompanied by 1 gg.
* Winners will be the person/persons who have the correct guess. If no one wins, the amount will be carried over to the following week. If there are multiple winners, the pot will be split evenly with any remainder staying in the pot for the following week. If the pot is completely emptied, I will seed it again with 1 gg.
* The value of each pot will be listed in this thread each week.
* If there is no winner, I will announce who came the closest , just to taunt you.
AVERAGE POT = 1 RANK POT = 1 DUP POT = 1 NEWBGG POT = 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday in my hometown the first of the two annual flea markets:
Found this game in perfect condition, french rules etc for 2 EUR. Just the right game to play with my son. Unfortunately we had quite some other things to do on sunday, so that I didn't get to read the rules. But I will do it tonight and play this little vampire game.

On the same flea market, I found this game in quite good shape. But 3 cards are missing. But for 2 EUR it's ok.
I read the rules again. We used to distribute the cards and place our troups on it. Nowadays you claim it by turns just by placing your army on a territory. So the missing cards are not crucial.

Guess where I found this one! Right, still on the same flea market of my hometown. And I did not only found 1 but 2 scrabbles.
1 French edition (1 E is missing, but have several on stock from last weeks copy with 85 letters supplement) 1 German edition. They still have nice wooden letters.
Yes I know I'm lucky to have flea markets in my region. But to have a chance to grab one of those games, you have to get up early on sunday mornings. Normally my clock is ringing at 06:00
The best thing is, that I did not only found the games mentionned above. I also had the great pleasure to find a Tintin-plate for 0.5 EUR and some comics.
This flea market season starts well, I hope there is still some room for further improvement

Not much this week, but I would say this one is a find. The box is a beater with heavy shelf wear and split corners. Missing one wildcat card (not a fire card though) a shed, two pipelines and one derreck. This is not surprising considering how many little bits there are. The game is in great shape and works perfectly. I think it was well worth the $2.99 at GW.

The beautiful weather had me out Garbage sailing Saturday morning, sadly, I had to cut it short for a family birthday.
This was the only board game of interest out of several sales. I'm thinking some of these celebratory shennanigans need to be consolidated. There are some times of the year that all I'm doing is heaving cake in face for several weeks in a row.
Grabbed this for 1.50 in addition to a bucket of a dozen or so N64 games for 0.50 each. Seems I am missing one 4 square column and one 2x8 plank piece. Oh, well, everything else is there as the figures, dice, and dvd were still bagged/sealed. And the production value on this set is pretty cool. Hope the play makes for a decent beer n' pretzels slaughter fest.

Dry streak officially over... ...for a looong time. All 3M large box titles. Taped with light damage to box when taking tape off.
This one is complete, and I guess it will replace my copy of The Collector edition.
Which rules work best?
Deseret Industries, Chula Vista. $2.00
I left behind Quinto, Twixt & Oh-Wah-Ree, which I already have.
Big 3M score!

I don't know of it's complete since there is no inventory. Can someone be kind enough to provide the letter distribution, or at least official card count?
Thanks a bunch!

Taped with some damage to box when taking tape off. Plastic tiles, of course. And missing a single Imperial card, which I can simply copy and reproduce with no hassle.

Dupe copy so I have an extra to sell or trade.

Taped with some damage to box when taking tape off.
This is the only one seemingly missing some items. One I and S tiles seem to be missing, though two number tiles are there (from Quinto, I would presume, so I need to go back to the store and check that Quinto box I left behind.)
Dinger is missing and two die **3445 (green) and **5467 (red).
I suspect that the Big Boggle from last week belonged to the same person, since that box had the remaining red die (which I thought was the challenge die, before looking into it.) It also has some 0s instead of Os, but I won't bother to replace those. Of all the 3Ms I found this is the game that got the most play, and that Big Boggle from last week plus a bunch of regular Boggles that appeared all of a sudden lead me to believe this donor was a word game geek. I hope he didn't die! But, anyway, thanks dude, I'll play some Acquire with you when I join you!
Deseret Industries. $2.00
I'm glad I waited on this one, cause I've seen it before at around $7.00 before and passed, I got Twixt at that time instead.
Later: I went back and Quinto was still there. Of course, I found the missing tiles and dropped off the number tiles. So all I'm missing are the two dice and the dinger.

Taped with more serious damage to box when taking tape off.
The damage was already there, so it's either a mistake while tape-monkeying with it or someone opened before I did, which is less likely, as I've been hounding that store all week. They managed to tear a bit of the art out.
Deseret Industries, Chula Vista. $2.00
I'm glad I waited on this one, cause I've seen it before at around $7.00 and $10.00 before and passed.

I found the FX Schmid version pictured and I'm missing these four tiles:
Black 9-7-4, Blue 1-2-8, Blue 9-6-8, and Blue 9-7-3
Does anyone have these that they'd be willing to part with from an incomplete copy?

I picked up two games in my most recent trip. I had no idea the box for this one was so small. However, the colors were unmistakable. Although the box top has a split edge, the sealed bag of chips indicates that this one has never been played. VV $1.89.

O citizenry, continue the support of our Glorious Revolution that brought about the Thrift State and the fantastic bounty that we all enjoy. I, your First Citizen, has entered Fantasy Geekball on behalf of the Thrift State.
See http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/41908/item/924269#item...
As the matches unfold, I will watch the voting and this will turn into a little contest amongst yourselves to ensure that our Thrift State is well supported. Currently we are in the team drafting/bidding phase and no matches have started as of yet. They will be starting soon though.
Here is how it will work -
At the end of each match where I am successful, I will add a game I have thrifted to the games I have on the list. I am going to concentrate on moderately valuable ones, you shouldn't see any stinkers in here unless I also decide to include them as a "bonus" to fill the box. I will throw in an extra game, if my team is declared the final winner. There most likely will a total of 9 matches to declare the winner, so you could win up to 10 games! (Final # of matches is dependent on how many Tony ends up running, but his draft plan is to have 9 matches).
At the end of each match, I will provide points to Citizens (you need to be a member of the Thrifting Guild) that thumb the matches where my team is present; the Abstract Strategy Stars or ASS (of which have many fine games I personally have thrifted that make up the team). My assumption is that your thumb = votes for my team's games (which are the team's players); you need to actually vote in the poll though. The # of points each Citizen gets is one for each winning game on my team. A team is up to seven games, and so if every game on the team won, you could possibly get seven points toward OUR COLLECTIVE VICTORY.
Additionally, since "smack" talk is encouraged within the matches, each Citizen that places a comment smacking down, describing the weaknesses of the opposition team, or showing support for the First Citizen's team, will earn additional points based on the creativity of the comment.
After all the matches have completed (which will probably take several weeks) and I, your First Citizen, am rightfully declared the winner (or when I am knocked out of the contest by some Royalist or TSIS treachery), I will send the games that have been added to the list with free shipping in the US, to who ever has collected the most points. If you are outside the US, I will find out how much it would cost to ship them parcel post from DC to St Louis and deduct that from your shipping costs.
This allows you, the fine Citizens of the Thrift State to show your ultimate support of your First Citizen and show how much Our Community, Our Guild, can influence the outcome.
Stand and be recognized!
In return, I will be redistributing some great Thrift wealth to others in need.
The first game to be added to the list will be
Invers, by Kris Burm, who later invented the GIPF series; the game is in excellent condition. Once the actual matches start, look for the Geeklist, "Support the Thrift State!"
May Our Shared Victory be assured.
I also will be repeating this special State broadcast message on the weekly geeklist as a gentle reminder to actively support the State until the contest is over.
- First Citizen
Note: if you think this is a blatant attempt to buy votes, you need to report to a reeducation camp.
