GMT P500 for May 2009

A good month overall for GMT's up-and-comer's.
GMT reworked their production schedule a bit, with a few titles moving up and a few getting delayed a month. One thing is certain, this is going to be a busy summer of clipping, and particularly, stickering blocks.
In July and August SIX block games are coming out - and like many of you I love me some block games and have all of them on preorder (excepting only C&C:A's reprint).
Which reminds me...after the bills come in and my wife divorces me, anyone have an extra room for rent?
Also, be sure to check out citizen k's MMP P500 for May geeklist.
This list follows the organization on GMT's site: first games that have "made the cut" with 500 or more preorders, in alphabetical order, followed by those that haven't yet obtained 500 order, also in alpha order. It generally does not include reprints or "small" expansions. If you'd like to learn more about GMT and it's P500 list, check out their P500 webpage.

Withing STRIKING DISTANCE of 500!
A unique, umpired entry into GMT's lineup. The counters look great.
A few months ago, the designer had this to say:
Quote: The umpire thing was a worry for me, and I'm the designer of the game!
But seriously, actual face-to-face play has found that the umpire has plenty to do and feels closely involved with the game. Some people even prefer the umpire role, just like some RPG players prefer Dungeon Mastering. It really hasn't been a problem in test and the playoff in terms of play--with real fog of war--has been enormous.
The best thing is that the game is sufficiently short (30 to 40 minutes) that player and umpire can swap sides after each game and both get a chance to play.
There is also a bunch of information on the GMT site http://www.gmtgames.com/p-233-nightfighter.aspx
The final game contents will comprise:
Rule book, 20 pages Scenario book, 16 pages One counter sheet 1/2" counters One counter sheet 5/8" counters One 11 x 17" umpire's map One 22 x 17" player's map One 11 x 34" playaid sheet/umpire's screen Four 6-sided dice
Regular Price: $55.00 P500 Price: $38.00

6th game in the Battles of the American Revolution Series.
Not much info available on this - any fans of the series want to provide some insight?
Quote: The Siege of Pensacola pits a numerically large but fragile Spanish army, supported by a small corps of French allies against a smaller, feistier British army enjoying strong fortifications and highly mobile Indian allies. As the Spanish player you will need to determine where you will build your siege gun redoubts and will then have to protect your soldiers from raiding British units to finish the works in time to mount an effective bombardment. As the British player, you have far fewer forces, but armed with special raiding rules, your Regulars, Tories and Indian allies must harass and erode Spanish morale, while delaying the construction of Spanish siege works for as long as possible in the hope of keeping your three forts intact to face the coming coup de main.
Components:
Pensacola, 1781 will include: Map One Countersheet Deck of 55 Event Cards Pack of 16 Tactics Cards (to give players an option between using the tactics chits or the cards) Rulebook Playbook 3 x Player Aid Cards 2 x 10-sided dice
Regular Price: $65.00 P500 Price: $45.00

Another solid, but unspectacular month for Rebel Raiders, a Civil war naval game from the designer of the Napoleonic Wars, Mark McLaughlin.
Mark S.'s Playtest map:
From the GMT site: Rebel Raiders on the High Seas is a comparatively short and simple game of the naval conflict at sea and on the great rivers in the American Civil War. Easily playable in less than three hours, Rebel Raiders on the High Seas is a strategic contest between two players, one seeking to reunite the Union by force, the other to maintain its new independence in the face of the escalating industrial might and resolve of its northern brother. More of a representation than a detailed simulation of that conflict, the game is intensely engaging, highly interactive and moves along quickly, with players constantly responding and reacting to their opponent’s moves.
Components One 22 x 28 map One Short Rule Book Eight six-sided dice One deck of 110 cards 6 Plastic Stands for Leaders 4 Blue Cannon Pawns 1 Grey Cannon Pawn 176 5/8” ship, leader and battery counters 100 ½” cargo, victory point, control and informational counters 20 small plastic tokens

And last but not least, the third month on the P500 for Mark Mokszycki's first design.
Mark Mokszycki

I've had the pleasure to read through the rules a few times and this one is sure to hit the sweet spot of complexity...not over the top, but a good deal of chrome to bring out the theme, and make no mistake, this one is steeped in the Winter War theme.
This will be the first game I've played where Russians can freeze to death at night unless they light huge bonfires to keep warm. But if they do they mark themselves clearly for elite Finn's night raids. Talk about a no win situation for our Soviet friends.
Over the last year or so, Mark has shared his early design ideas, rules, and playtest artwork with us at BGG and allowed us to watch the process and contribute if we'd like.
If you have ANY questions about this game, I'm sure Mark will be happy to answer them.
Playtest game in play:
From GMT's site:
A desperate battle for territory and survival is about to be waged across a bleak and snowy landscape of forests, swamps, and frozen lakes.
Red Winter is the first in a proposed series of games covering battles of the 1939 Russo-Finnish Winter War and World War II at a rarely gamed scale: company sized combat units and 90 minute game turns. The Winter War games of the series will be characterized by highly fluid frontlines, wild flanking maneuvers by night, Finnish night raids, and a low unit density across a wide and shifting front. Future Winter War games in the works include the battle for Ägläjärvi, and WWII games in the works include Operation Dauntless (the Allied flank attack near Caen, France, in June of 1944), and several Pacific theatre battles of WWII.
Red Winter will contain: · One 22”x34” map · One countersheet of 5/8” counters · One Rulebook with illustrated examples · One Play Book with over a dozen scenarios, extensive historical and game play notes, designer’s notes, and optional rules and variants · One Turn Track card · Two identical player aid cards · Two six-sided dice · One ten-sided die
Regular Price: $50.00 P500 Price: $35.00
