Yes you may have heard or even own some of these games, but I'm sure there are many you never heard of. I tried to pick out all the best race games that are not well known to most of us or you may find them just intriguing as I did.

I don't know about you, but I haven't heard of this game before this list. The aim of each player is to be the first to return to the entrance of the forest with his wizard (the arrival and departure squares), after having collected the necessary 3 items.

I picked up a copy of this about five years ago (maybe six)_because it sounded really interesting. Unfortunately, it languishes unplayed. Perhaps I will be able to get it played this year.

I haven't heard of this one until recently and it looks like a neat game. The pieces are big honking Moai (Easter Island Statues) heads, how cool!

Celtica is not a race game; it doesn't belong in this list. It is a set collection game that ends when one of the druids (meeples) gets to the end of the track.

Roll-and-move race to the finish in which you can throw up barricades in others' paths.

I realise the above description may rub some geeks wrong, but this is actually my favourite game in the genre. Choosing betweent he strategies available (one meeple dashes to the finish, plodding group of five meeples makes their way), relative to what others do, makes this a fun family game.

Dunno, never played That's Life. Malefiz is basically a race to the finish line. Along the way, there are impassable barricades. Roll a die to land exactly on one, though, and you get to pick it up and place it elsewhere on the track. Great game for kids to learn turn order, basic strategy and tactics. More fun if you can find the version with old west characters, though.

Looks like they were using the Formula D dashboards back then. A nice car race simulation, with many real components, like tires, suspension, brakes and gear manipulation.

Don't you mean to say that Formula D (/De) did not invent the dashboard tracking method? I know that Albertarelli's Pitstop used one, too.

I read it to be a reference to the most popular use of the dashboards, not a claim that FD invented them. No worries either way.

The "Dogs" run against the turn of a set of specially formulated cards which automatically adjust the odds and form, which is determined before every race, so that the outcome of each race is as predictable (and unpredictable) as in the real world of dog racing.

Looks sweet and I want it. Tour sets out to recreate the team-based tactics and excitement of pro cycling (without the drugs!) by combining the roll and move styling of Formula De with the need to use your differently skilled team of cyclists (up to five unique cyclists per team) to the best of their abilities.

This is quite an interesting game built onto a very versatile system. We created our own Stage 1 of the Tour de France last year and had a blast. We had to create a few boards and tweaked a few rules, but it all seemed to work for us. Unfortunately, it took as 3 sessions of 2 hours to finish the four team (of five) race. Looking forward to doing it again this year.

BTW, Luke has made the print and play version of this available in the past in time for the Tour de Frace, so perhaps he will do that again this year.

There are some great sounding games here. But the reason we haven't heard of them is that they're impossible to find! Reading the list gave me a craving for 3 or 4 of them, but they're nowhere to be found. Now I've got (another) unscratchable itch.
