This is the monthly list for Columbia Games P500 Games. I'm sorry to be a few days late getting this posted but my wife and I had our first baby on June 2nd which set me back a little on this --and just about everything else in my life! So now, after getting caught up a little bit on sleep, I'm ready to start digging into what's happening in the world of Columbia Preorders.

A few of the games had no new preorders this month but none lost any, which is impressive considering the state of the economy. Rome vs Rome took a leap in preorders this month putting it ahead of Shenandoah for total preorders for the first time! (It probably helps that there were several Rome vs Rome updates this month.)

Also, Columbia mentioned in their monthly email that they would be reprinting a classic "AmeriGame" but there is no mention of what it is yet. Hopefully we'll have a new game on this list soon!

Here are the stats for the month.

And now, onto the preorders. Be sure to visit Columbia Games GamePlan website to preorder these titles at:
http://www.columbiagames.com/cgi-bin/query/cfg/allgameplan-w...
As always, please add your comments to the list.

A handful of new preorders this month. The game is in final playtesting and Jerry Taylor expects this game to print sometime between June and August. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this one. Last month Stan Hilinski mentioned this game might get a name change. I'm hoping for Hammer of the Rose Rex.

There is a lengthy discussion from the designer about the game both on ComsimWorld and here on BGG. Be sure and give it a read if you haven't already.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/380438

Mark Mahaffey, who is doing the art for the game, posted earlier saying that the artwork on the gamepage at Columbia is out of date. These are the most recent pictures for the cards in the game:

There are lots of reasons to be excited for this. Jerry Taylor's previous games have both been great and the artwork for this one is being done by the brilliant Mark Mahaffey. If you haven't read Jerry Taylor's design notes, take some time to look them over as they are a great read and should help to seal the deal if you are on the fence about preordering.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Wars of the Roses expands on the award-winning Hammer of the Scots game system by greatly enriching the card deck. "Holding your cards close to your vest" has never meant more. Players can launch or foil conspiracies, bring Scotland into the wars, hire mercenaries, flee into exile, employ spies, bribe neutral nobles, call up the standing army at Calais, mobilize the powerful Northern or Welsh Marches, or even marshal the fickle winds of fate to threaten the best laid plans of the enemy.

One new preorder last month but not much new information. Last month, Stan Hilinski, whom I believe creates most of the Vassal modules for Columbia Games, said that this game would likely be published after Richard III: The Wars of the Roses regardless of preorder numbers to help fix issues in Gettysburg: Badges of Courage.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Shiloh was a fascinating ACW battle fought in April 1862. A surprise Confederate attack, led by Albert Sydney Johnson, nearly swept encamped Union defenders into the Tennessee River. The next day, a reinforced Union army counter-attacked and drove the CSA line back in confusion and retreat. A CSA victory would have ruined the career of General Ulysses S. Grant. But the battle instead ended with a Union victory, the death of Albert Sydney Johnson, and the eventual demise of Confederate hopes in the West. Both days of Shiloh can be played separately or together.

8 months of positive growth for this title. And now, after you preorder, you can buy a microbadge to show your support!
In the January issue of Dicey Business, Columbia Games mentioned that this would likely be the next game published after Richard III: The Wars of the Roses and that preorders for the game will be closed soon. If you want it at the discount price now is the time to preorder!

2009 will be the year Slapshot is republished. We are now finalizing production decisions. We will definitely have the game back in print in time for the World Boardgaming Championships this summer.

Slapshot preorders will be closed soon.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Slapshot is a wheeling, dealing game for hockey nuts. Each player assumes the role of team manager. The object is to skillfully manage your team into the playoffs and then win the championship. During the regular season you can improve your team with drafts and trades, but injuries can upset the best of plans. Ultimately, your skill as manager determines if your team wins or loses.

Slapshot includes 49 zany hockey nuts like Slash Gordon, Puck Rogers, Ian Jury, Cheap Shot, Le Goon, and Jack the Tripper.

There's a bit of news on this title. In the Columbia forum for this game, Gary Selkirk posted some playtest session reports for the game. If you're interested in the game there is a lot of great information there.

Gary Selkirk mentioned that the rules and map would be posted as soon as Columbia gets the chance. He also mentioned that the game could be played twice in an evening. This one sounds like it's going to be great!

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Shenandoah covers the remarkable Valley Campaign of May/June 1862. Led by Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson, a smaller Confederate army with audacious marching and fighting paralyzed and defeated three enveloping Union armies. Military students worldwide study Jackson's strategy and tactics to this day.

The CSA player has the advantage of central position, but must use it aggressively to prevent the Union armies from combining against him. The USA player has a clear advantage in numbers, but must cope with a command system that penalizes the wide separation of his three forces.

This game got a big increase in preorders this month, probably thanks to a lot of exciting developments. It sounds like this got extensive playtesting at PrezCon and the game has undergone some changes as a result. Justin Thompson said that there are new movement rules for the Alps, new blocks that players can gain by controlling certain areas of the maps (with elephants and chariot units). Columbia continues to promote the game heavily in their Dicey Business email so I assume it will be published quickly once the P500 goals are reached.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Rome vs Rome brings the drama of the Roman Civil War to life. Players take control of the legions of Caesar or Pompey and fight to rule Rome as Emperor. There are two campaigns: "Crossing the Rubicon" in which Caesar faces Pompey, and "Augustus", in which Caesar's nephew Octavian battles with Marc Antony and Cleopatra.

The map board depicts the major theatre of operations during the Roman Civil War 49BC-31BC.

Here is a link to the recently updated rules for the game:
http://www.columbiagames.com/resources/3071/rome-rules.pdf
Justin Thompson also posted a new copy of the map here on BGG:

There are also a new thread on BGG with some great discussion as well as an updated sequence of play which I will quote here:
Kingmaker961 wrote:
1. Roll dice to determine who has the initiative. (Except on the first move as Caesar goes first.)
2. Play a card (Choosing to Levy, Move or Play an Event.)
3. Do your levying or resolve your event.
4. Spent your movement points. Remember you must finish moving 1 town completely before moving any blocks in the next town. You must complete your moves before battling.
5. Choose which town will Battle first. (If there is any battles that round.) Complete the battle and all retreats before moving on to the next battle.
6. Remove any over staked units (Limit of 6 units per stack.)
7. Draw a new card in the order you played the last round. (Draw a card after both players have completed there turns.)
8. Go to top and start again.
