So many custom races and powers in so many places. I wanted to collect the races with complete artwork into one place and perhaps leave room for discussion under each design.

I started to fill in this list adding each design as an new item but it looked like I was responsible for all of the work. So instead, I sent an invitation to each of the creators and hope they each respond. If not, you can still use this header as a link to the completed designs to date.

Name_________Sirens
Rules__________Gives you (5) race tokens. Sea and Lake regions can be conquered and are also considered adjacent to each another for your conquest purposes. In addition, any region with three or more Siren race tokens are immune to enemy conquests as well as to their racial and special powers.
What's Unique__________Links adjacency to water regions. Allows for exceptional defense with the power of three tokens.

The redundancy with Seafaring is a little odd. "Seafaring Sirens" would only be different from vanilla sirens after going into decline.

I like the 3-stack immunity thing, but the thematic link is a little tenuous. How about when a siren occupies an ocean or lake, once per turn per player they can remove one token from a territory adjacent to that river or lake (not a conquest, so doesn't combine with flying).

These look awesome!

1. I wanted the Seafarer (and now the Siren) to have a chance at being lost to the other. Increase interaction with seafaring.
-Sea-faring Sirens wouldn't have to compete for the water and are now adjacent. Take a breath of relief girls, no one's coming to kick your butts.

2. The defense seems strong at first but it is only likely to help for the first active turn. Then the player would have to decide to sit on just a few tiles. It's the same dilemma for all; expand or defend.

The concern I have with this race is its apparent immunity to most races. Until seafaring comes in, a set of 3 sirens (one on each water area in a 2p game) could net an undisputed 3 points, and an additional 3 of each on 2 areas brings that total to 5. Doesn't seem like a big deal until they become merchant sirens, bringing their net to 8 (7 tokens, sea, sea, sea and 4 on one additional area) undisputed points per turn. Even without counting races in decline, that's powerful stuff.

I'll have to think on this.

I did want them to be powerful so they'd be more desirable to pickup. You came up with a strenuous example of how they could be perhaps the most powerful but they'd still have to just sit there and not expand.

If this came to be, obviously the declined race would be targeted.

My new set will have varying strengths along with powerful bullying capabilities. There will always be a chance to stack a great power and race and rock the board for a short time.

How's this for a compromise on "immune from enemy combat"...

What if conquered while stacked 3 high both the attacker and defender loose a race token?

Name__________Lightning
Rules__________Gives (4) race tokens. You also receive two lightning tokens. With two adjacent areas on your turn you can clear the way with your two lightning tokens. All of your opponents active tokens are returned to them to redeploy while declined races and lost tribes are lost to the tray. The two regions hit by lightning must first be adjecent to an occupied space and also adjacent to one another. The cleared out regions are now conquerable for the least tokens possible (ei. 2 tokens per empty land or 3 for empty mountain areas). During troop redeployment you pickup your two lightning tokens to use again during your next conquest. The Halflings hole is immune from lightning but fortresses and troll lairs are not and must be removed from the board.
What's Unique__________Allows quick movement with the use of a thunder bolt for up to two adjacent regions per active conquest.

I like this. It's a bit like dragon master, but doesn't kill any active units or provide protection. Pretty cool.

Edit: It should be mentioned though, that unless the power is supposed to evoke images of brightening up a space through natural light or something, it should be spelled "Lightning".

I had "Lightning" and my wife corrected my spelling.

I was so happy I was corrected before posting it on the site.

Name_________Cloning
Rules__________Gives (4) race tokens. During the beginning of a conquest turn you can set aside up to 2 race tokens for the conquering portion of your turn. You pay one point per token set aside. You may conquer with any remaining tokens. During your troop redeployment take back the tokens set aside plus one per token and point given. (ei. if you set aside 2 tokens and gave 2 victory points to the bank, you now receive 4 tokens to redeploy) If there are no more tokens in the storage tray, you cannot clone your existing troops.
What's Unique__________You gain race tokens for the loss of use of those tokens during one conquest and cost of one point. Allows you to keep an active race viable for when you don't want to lose a powerful declined race.

I really like this one. The most unique of all. However, as a 4, most races will only have 1 extra token and so this is not all that useful until some units are killed.

Also, how do you stack with the Amazons? Do you still always have to take four units off after conquering?

All racial rules would still apply and obviously are locked into a total number of supplied tokens. The Amazon's four conquering tokens could not come onto the board as the result of a clone.

This power would help sustain a live race and would be most beneficial if you had a lucrative declined race on the board.

***Cloning Elves would be a little useless accept gaining the one additional token from the tray. Paired with any other race, however, I think this would be powerful (hence the loss of point).

Possibly consider naming it Recruiting or Fecund? I agree that newer science ideas don't really fit with the fantasy theme. In fact the word clone only came into existance in 1903 and then only in relation the botany. It wasn't applied to the idea of genetics (and the modern idea of cloning) until the 1970's.

Ok, maybe it's just me, but I like it better when we stick to fantastic, or achaic ideas.

Actually, after looking over all of the threads I linked at the top. I think I prefer "Mercenary" as a name. I also love the idea (not mine) of paying for a different type of token (a mercenary token) that helps you fight but you can't leave alone.

I'm going to be making my own personal copy of a lot of these new races and powers. I think I might go for Mercenary over Clone all together.

I just have to adapt the art a little.

---
As I make the art I'll post them and give credit to the original poster's idea.

I'm going to do them all at once to scale down the photoshop hours so I'm collecting which I ideas to do at this point.

"Conquer all Reqions occupied by a declined race (or Lost Tribe) at 1 less Goblin token than usual. A minimum of 1 token is required." [power art done by -MrNecro-] [original idea by -Paladin_fin-]

This was inspired by MrNecro's Goblins

I'm setting out to make 14 new races for a personal expansion taking all of my favorite ideas posted here on the geek.

My goal is to make all of the imagery similar for a deliberate "put-together" look.

So far i've got my Sirens and now my Hobgoblins. I plan to post the races as I complete each design. I'll do my best to give credit to the original creators.

Gargoyles by niklas ternvall (warTever)

When the enemy conquers one of your regions, your gargoyle wont die but turn itself into stone; it will stay in that region waiting until it's cleansed of enemies. Gargoyles attack regions with a stone-formed gargoyle in it for one less. If the region gets abandoned the gargoyle will turn back.
While in stone-form gargoyles can stay in enemy territory no matter what.
The gargoyles ability to assume stoneform remains in decline.

Well, even the races with the game are a little munckhiny. They'd have to be. The purpose of the special power or racial abilities are all to break the rules in some way.

Take a look at the lists in the Forum Threads. There must be a handful that feel right for you.

The one that I've seen that made sense was the Mermaid race which gave bonus points to areas adjacent to water.

The ones that interact with the other races (i.e., invincible, nuclear, deatheater etc) often seem unbalancing.
