This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames/RPG's bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™ and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.

I've had days like that. Spending several hours out, driving uncounted miles, and having nothing to show for it when you're done... Just part of the hunt I guess.

And you just can't stop. You know the next store will have something, I just has to!
A parts copy. It's incomplete but the box is in way better condition than my copy. As a matter of fact, my copy was just a poor box so this is more a replacement copy than a parts copy.
It has the older plain spine. I don't think I'd seen this style before.
How plain? Just the title, or the title with some bars and text and square 3M logo? I think the curlycues come later and I have a lot with just text and bars, but I've never seen one that has the title by itself.

Thrift store, $2.00. Did the bits check (made easier by having the white pieces still attached to the sprue) and I was only missing 1 blue derrick and 1 red well cap.
I'm hoping to get parts from a fellow BGGer to make mine complete!
I saw this in the special collectibles case at the local Value Village a couple months ago. Someone at my VV either knows their games or this title is on a list the pricers are supposed to check.
It's a great version. In fact, I'm convinced that preference for the older version is pure nostalgia. This one has greatly improved functionality and looks better too.
Stopped by sals today while getting groceries and found this for $1 half off. Normally I wouldn't have got it, but the half off lured me in. I might keep it if it is complete for the younger house guests, but probably won't.
I also got domino rally big set to add to my collection (yay!) for a $1 and some neat toy called "Cat-a-pult". So, not a good day for games, but something to make me happy.
My books are forgeries. Nobody wrote them. - Philip K. Dick
You might try the Educational Insights website to see if they'll send you replacement pieces. I know they'll replace missing Blokus pieces, I'm not sure about Rumis.
I've been doing well selling some on craigslist. I had one person buy 16 games in a batch! No shipping, no PayPal fees, and they get to see it before they buy it.
I tried listing mine at at prices that were 5%-10% less than ebay with shipping charges. I offered a 20% multiple purchase discount as well. Not one sold. I thought about it and realized that it's quite a time investment to go to someone's house or meet them, so it's probably best to go about 40-60% under ebay or perhaps 20-30% under in large batches. I don't know as I've never tried.
So we are trying to save some money. Got to spend it on stuff like food and rent. We have figured out that we can spend like 85 cents a day on thrifting with the current budget. We still have to get out of the house from time to time. So we swing by the Powell GW this evening. Not really expecting much, since what they have is usually over-priced and taped to hell. On the lower shelf, sitting sideways is the Euro-style box. I pulled it out. Didn't recognize the title, but did see that it was from Z-Man. I decide to take a risk, inspite of the tape. I get it home. Took me a bit to figure out the inventory, since the rules don't clearly state what every single card and counter is. Apparently it is complete, with a few spare parts included. Looks to have been unplayed. Total price was $3.99.
Right after I found the Chang Cheng, Mary found this. She did a quick card count. Over 140 cards in the box, which means at least one expansion has been added. Cards appear to have been untouched. Box is a little dished, but no biggie. $3.99 at Powell GW.
Last thing I picked up. At $2.99, it seemed like it might be a bit spendy for what looked like a simple card game. Mary has this thing for knots though, which would make this more of a dexterity game...
At 85 cents a day, we have pretty much blown our thrifting budget for the next week. Hmmm. The dog doesn't need to eat every day does he?

Who is this guy? What's he think he's Captain Knots? Captain tying Knots?
Lovely copy of 1970 Buccaneer in complete condition.Looks like it has never been played.Payed £4 at a carboot sale.I little more than I would normally pay but it was in such good condition.
Found this at a fleamarket, ok condition, for 1$. Did not have time to count the pieces, but suspected some would be missing. Turned out I was right, one playing pawn and several tickets were indeed missing. But still 100% playable with 5 players. Think I have the old Scotland Yard lying around somewhere aswell.
Got this at the same fleamarket, norwegian version for 1$. I already got this and the blue book in the bookshelf. But could not resist another copy. Nice book with lots of memories of my early days of rpg'ing...
I need a bit of help, and I figured my fellow citizens of Thriftania would be the best place to turn. I dabble in game design and right now I’m doing a bit of prototyping. I need some of those old Kenner "Girder and Panel" sets that were so popular back in the 60’s and early 70’s for a particular project I’m working on. Actually, all I need are the uprights and the horizontals -- the skyscraper side panels, elevators, doors, etc. are of no use to me. Oh, wait, I also need enough bases to make a minimum 7 x 7 grid of the uprights.
(There’s a new version of this toy available from Mind Ware, which is compatible with the original, but they are mighty proud of it, and I can’t justify the expense.)
I bought one G&P set on eBay, but it was so expensive, I can’t bring myself to throw out the non-girder parts, so I gave the whole thing to my kids to play with. Thus, I thought I’d turn to the thrifting crew. If you folks could keep an eye out for one or more of these sets, I would be grateful. (They’re probably more likely to turn up at a garage or estate sale.) I’m willing to pay $10 or so (plus shipping) for a set with all or nearly all the beams and girders intact, plus a couple of the bases. I need about 100 uprights and 200 of the horizontals, so I think I will need two sets for the game I’m working on.
Second: We have such a piss-poor area for thrifting that I’ve given up ever finding anything good. I would like to beef-up our copy of Carcassonne, but I know that no one around here buys Rio Grande games, so they'll never turn up in a thrift venue. If any of you find a copy of this with a beat-up box, I’d love to have the tiles, and will pay a reasonable amount for them. (I’m also interested in the "River II" and "Inns & Cathedrals" expansions, but I will probably just put those on the list for Santa.)
(Edit: PatK has offered me a set he thrifted. Thanks!)
Third: If anyone finds any of those little colored locomotives from a set of Mexican Train, I’d love to have them to pimp the copy of Ticket to Ride I just bought. Or if you know of some place I could buy them, that would be great.
(Edit: "Chops" has offered to buy me a set since my game/comic shop doesn't carry them. Many thanks!)
Having said that, the person in MN that was selling the regular Taboo card packs they took out of the game and implying they were refill packs, should burn for what they did (crash the market and cheat people while lying to them). I'm sure that person reads these lists, and thought that they were getting away with something, but if I find you, I will expose you and you won't find any gaming people to play with.
"I don't know if this is a Taboo refill or not..." When you sell 1, maybe, when you sell 50, you are a F****** Liar, cheater, and Jerk.
The wheel of Karma keeps turning.
I notice that no actual 'Refill' items are up for bid or have even sold in the last 30 days. Is the market that bad for them right now?
I'll hold on to my in shrink copy till closer to the holidays. Pretty lame that I'll have to go out of my way to make it clear that what I have is an actual, real, says-it-right-on-the-box refill copy.
Plus, he has them priced at full MSRP. I picked up TTR for $37.50 last week when he had a store-wide 25%-off sale, but I can't bring myself to pay his asking prices.
I'll see if he can special order the locos.
This kind of attitude is why FLGSs are going out of business. Retail price is for retail stores. Brick and mortar cost more than mail order but they have to maintain a store front. Plus if you are just buying one game at a time its about the same with shipping included (depending on the game).
I like a bargain as much as anyone, but I don't complain about my FLGS charging retail.
If this was a "real" FLGS I wouldn't complain either, but it's a comics shop for crying out loud. It's been a comic/sports card shop for at least 10 years and only started carrying games earlier this year. He's slowly increased the variety of games, but it's still just a small corner in a shop full of comic, manga, and sports cards. He offers discounts to regular customers (which I am) on everything else, so I don't see why he can't do it for the games.
