The Coat of Arms of Clan Montgomery - Scotland. Yes, that's a woman with the head of a savage in her hand, and an anchor. No clue what it means, but it's cool.

Well, fellow Geeks, it's that time of year again, where we start eagerly anticipating the end of November and the arrival of BGG Con 2009. For us wargamers, we usually like to do a little planning before hand because our games take so long.

Like last year, this geeklist can be used to suggest wargames you'd like to play, find players, and set up meet-ups.

Please either subscribe to this list or put it on your Quickbar. It is not currently stickied or linked to the main BGG page (since it has to exist first). As soon as this list goes up, I will geekmail Aldie and Derk and ask them to sticky the list and put a link on the BGG Con main page. Until then, it will rapidly fall off the main geeklist page.

For Geeks who used the wargamer meet-up list last year, go ahead and get started. For those of you who are wargamers and will be attending BGG Con for the first time, please keep reading.

If this is your first time coming to BGG Con and you're a wargamer, this list will be invaluable to you to find someone to play games with. BGG Con is open gaming. For most boardgamers, games run from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Of course, for us wargamers, that's almost never the case, and the rules are generally dense enough that learning at the Con can be a pain. This geeklist will let all us wargamers get our ducks in a row before the con so that we can cram as many games as possible into the experience instead of reading rules and looking for four random players who just happen to know how to play, for example, The Napoleonic Wars.

Underneath a game's item, leave a comment of your interest in playing that game. When enough players are listed, start finding out who's going to be in town when, what days work, and where you'd like to meet. Make sure that you discuss who, if anyone, is going to bring a copy of the game. While Aldie's library is HUGE, there's usually only one copy of each game, and there are many, many more obscure wargames that aren't in his library at all.

If a game you want to play is not listed (look alphabetically), just add it.

Last year, lots of wargamers congregated in the Oak Ballroom toward the west wall. One of the days, we even had a big "Don't Tread On Me" flag. Here's a map of the convention space: Hotel Banquet Facilities.

I've listed a few games I'm interested in just to get us started . . .

Will this be in the library? Will it be in print by the con? I'd love to give this prequel/sequel to Friedrich a try and it only needs 3 players.

Update: Well, I've got this on preorder, so I guess I'll know if it's available by BGG.Con.

I'm working my way through the Great Battles of the American Revolutionary War series.

I'd be willing to play this again, it shouldn't take much more than a few hours with experienced players.

Since I've only played Saratoga and Monmouth, I'm keen to learn any of the other titles that folks might want to introduce to me.

This will be a large group play of the game. All comers will be given a command provided enough copies are available!

The Battle of Austerlitz using Bowen Simmons's wonderful block-and-no-dice system. Last year we had three games with four players each going on at the same time.

Complexity: Medium-Heavy (the diceless combat system is confusing to newcomers)

A little late to the suggestion box with this, but any interest in this, or one of the other Microgames or pocket games? I have always loved these, several are pretty good games with cool themes, and they're quick to play.

Anybody up for a short game to start or end the day, or between bigger games? Here are some that I either like or want to play:

Olympica
Ogre/G.E.V.
Hot Spot
Sticks & Stones
Titan Strike
Chitin: I
Melee/Wizard
Ice War
Rivets
Cerberus: The Proxima Centauri Campaign
Warriors of Batak

Okay, it looks like we've got:

8 a.m. Sunday
Olympica (most likely)
mistermarino vs. leroy43

Anybody looking to play that game or another micro, swing by when we're done (9 a.m. or a little after), because I might be up for another.

I am developing this game for re-release by GMT (it's on P500 now). I will have my copy at the con, and would be happy to run a couple people through a scenario using the latest rules.

PAX BALTICA is a block game similar to Columbia's recent releases, but with plenty of chrome placing it firmly in its period (early 18th century).

A short scenario runs 2-3 hours. A longer one could be 4-6 depending on how fast the players play and how the strategic situation breaks out.

A game of civilization building, diplomacy, and conquest.

The setting is ancient China, Korea, and Japan in the period from about 200 CE to around 1600 when the Europeans arrive.

Playtesting at BGG.CON and eager to get some feedback!

Four players, low complexity, 2-3 hours playing time.

(Although the game will support 3, 4, or 5 players only the four player version will be playtested in November.)

Valley Games is going to have a demo copy of the new version of Republic of Rome at BGG.con. Is there any interest playing the new version? We'd probably be the first group to ever play the new verson...

I'd be even happy to teach (I'm the developer of the new edition).

Update: The game will be played Saturday morning/afternoon. If you want to sign up indicate below what time you would rather play.

Option #1: 11am and go until 5pm (no big breaks).
Option #2: 8am until 3pm with a break during the flea market that would also count as lunch.

Signups:
John Rodriguez - 11am
Brett Orr - 11am
Roger Leroux - 11am (can do 8am)
Ben Vincent - 11am
Asher Diamant - 11am
Sean Harris - 11am
Sean McGrath - 11am
Sean Brown - 11am
Chris Farrel - 11am
Rusty Ballinger - 8am?

Looks like 11am it is. Teaching (by me at least) will start promptly at 11:05 (can't wait forever). If there are enough players we can have two games going. Chris knows the game pretty well so can help
