Although I am new to board games, I played tons of RPG games while I was teen (and child!). My friends and myself grew up and didn't meet again around a table to play games. A year ago I discovered boardgamegeek.com while websurfing, and a new world was shown to me. I'm now trying to learn and play as many games as possible, but it is quite difficult to find anyone to play, even those friends that played with me years ago.
My aim is to get this people playing again. I think that Battlestar would be a great addition to my collection. I love the TV series; I love the theme; and I think that it has some features that may appeal to my friends: the collaborative gaming, the aspects of role playing, the traitors. I'm hoping to stop playing Zombies!!! and start playing this

I want this game because it's designed by Martin Wallace
(and it's just enough for me!!!)
In my opinion the mechanic is great (even the dice), the fact that it plays with 3 is the best for my group!
And although the artwork isn't great it's the brain burning factor of the game that makes you forget it after 20 minutes!!

There are many games I'm considering to buy. Dungeon Twister 2, Battlelore Heroes Expansion, Ad Astra, Ghost Stories are just a few. However, at the moment I'm primarily looking to get some more 2 player games, as playing a game with my wife in the evening is my favorite pastime. I played Day & Night a few days ago, and while I thought it was a great game, I also *knew* that my wife would love it. Furthermore, it's published by a lesser known company and I feel they need the encouragement more than, say FFG or DOW, when they publish something worthwile.
Off topic: I get the impression people who responded first to this list get an unfair advantage.

I'm planning to make a Funagain order in early 2010. Originally, I was going to wait to buy Agricola until that order, but my wife is very excited to try this game and decided she would like me to order it as our anniversary gift to each other (our anniversary is November 4th.) Therefore, this will be the next game I will purchase!
Some of the other items I'm planning to get in my order include Power Grid, Battlestar Galactica, and On the Brink, as well as some smaller games.
Relating to this contest, I'm not terribly wound up about getting an avatar, but there are a few microbadges I have my eye on. Thanks for your votes!

I just played this game with my game group and I loved it! This game will be my next purchase because it is easy to learn, its fast, and I think it would be a great gateway game to get my wife, and other family members into gaming more. I think I may even be able to get my little boy to play with us! I know he would love the ships and all the crazy aliens!!
EDIT: This is what my avatar will actually be! My little Aspy Pirate!
Yes I am completely stealing #159's idea (see below) and I feel absolutely horrible about it, but you have to admit, thats one cute kid!! *Free to the first person who can guess where we are at in this picture!!
See here for a neat story on how this little guy created his own board game! http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/455188

I know I'm late to this game, but I thought I'd add this expansion as my next game (we've played BGG a few times already and love it).
More importantly, though, don't these girls deserve to see their Daddy have an avatar on BGG?

I too am following a logical progression and getting my kids interested in wargaming. Thus far, my progression has been a steady diet of Memoir '44. I then introduced Manoeuvre about six months ago. So far, so good. Recently, I went a bit more hardcore and introduced The Drive On Metz (second edition) and Target Arnhem: Across 6 Bridges. While introductory, they are a bit more to handle but really cool on the hex and counter level and the kids are coming along nicely. Hopefully, the next move, still a few months away, will be CC:E.

This is the next game i want to buy.
Yes yes, i know it is a long time, but Smallworld is keeping me busy, and i don't think expansions qualify as games.
And it is so perfectly fitting. I am avatarless, this game is imageidless. Such perfect symmetry.
Remember that thrift store game you bought? The good one? That was me. You owe me.

I've been collecting and playing for a small while now and I'm getting more serious about it. I like Battlelore and Memoir 44 and am now getting ready to purchase the one that set the standard, the grandaddy of 'em all.

Old game, but SOOOO beautiful, and very peaceful, while still being competitive. Makes a smile on the face of everyone who plays it, and is great for all ages. Also very practically lends itself as for many avatar pictures.

A game that I've heard so much about, and finally got a chance to play the reprint a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic game! I've got to get this game. One of the best auction games I've played, and would be very accessible with the casual game group I host with coworkers, as well as my heavier game club.

If you're a true geek how can you deny the Sumerian? The game looks great, the reviews are decent (So you don't get to BE Conan, big deal, there's only one Conan and he IS in the game), the advert is really killer in my opinion ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwpGUWMbY_g), and last but not least...bits...more bits! So come on people, give a
and show your support for Conan!

I love wargames, but I just love the inherent cynicism behind the concept of this game. It reminds me of Major General Smedley D. Butler's (USMC Retired) 'War is a Racket' speech.
Quote: WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.
...and:
Quote: I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

I have never played wargames, but they really seem intereseting, specially if you want to learn something about history.
And since not everyone is willing to sit with you, learn such a game, or even play them, solitaire games are a good option.
I just found this game, and it seems the right choice for my first solitaire wargame. So this is going to be my next one!

I have just started to play Conflict of Heroes:Awakening the bear with my11 year old son. I want is to continue his boardgaming education with a copy of Commands & Colors: Ancients. I think this would be a step up from Conflict of Heroes and have a completly different mechanic with the CDG aspect. This is also an area of history that my son has an interest in.

I know I am entering way to late to win this but I still want this game, as I love the mythos, and also like the scalability of the game, as I do like to solo game just as much as I love playing in groups

Zombie Fluxx was one of my gateways.
There. I've said it. I played it, I still play it, and I like it!
Whew. You know, I feel better already.
Looking forward to adding this to my twilight creations and p'np zombie stacks. Will it be the unholy grail that all zombie games should aspire to be?
Wonder if it will fit in my pocket?
