I wanted to create something to learn about another BGG User or two or three, etc. I don't know if this will take off or not. But I figure I'll give it a try.

Have you ever wanted to teach people about your life? Your community? Your traditions/culture?
Ever wanted to learn about someone else? Where they are from? Learn about another culture?
Well now is you chance!

I was inspired by the Globe Clircling Meeple and the Global Geek Photo Album. But this is not the only thing that inspired this. One of my first BGG friends, Cate108 came about from a trade with my boyfriend, Mark. What did she want in trade for her game? No... it wasn't another game. She wanted to learn about Newfoundland! So we were sent on an adventure. Me and my boyfriend went out and took pictures of the city, and tried to find things we could send to her to give her a feel of Newfoundland. What did we send? A CD with lots of Newfie music, a CD with pictures and recipes and information on Newfoundland, some delicious Newfoundland syrup, etc. And now, I'd like to get that feeling back, and then pass it along again.

Now that my story is over, let's get on to the point of this Geeklist!

This GeekList was created to get allow users a chance to learn about another person. You will be required to send a package to the person who added an item above you and will receive a package from the person who posts below you.

If you have other questions, feel free to check out the discussion thread:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/481185

The Rules

d10-1 This is open to participants worldwide. What kind of culture trade would it be if I limited it to one particular area. That said, you decide where you ship your items by picking the person above you, you can get an idea where they live from their profile. So if you don't want to send half way across the world, you won't be required to.

d10-2 You can participate multiple times in this GeekList; however, please ensure you don't send multiple packages to the same person (let's get diversified and meet lots of different members). Please be fair and give others a chance to participate as well and keep your entries at least 5 people apart.

d10-3 All you need to do to sign-up is to click Add Item. You can put requests for specific types of items in your post or leave it up to the sender. Please note, the sender doesn't have to follow your requests, they will just be guidelines if they so choose to follow them. Once you've added an item, please GeekMail the person above you to get their address. Once someone posts below you, you should receive a GeekMail requesting your address to which you can pass on to get your package.

d10-4 You can send whatever you like in the package that represents you/your community/your traditions/your culture/etc. The only stipulation is that it revolves around you in some way. In fact, you don't have to spend money on any items or purchase anything for your target. Not everyone has a lot of money, and this is fine. You aren't even required to send a huge package to your target. Sometimes the best gift is something that simply takes time, so if you want to go out and take pictures of your community, write up some of your favourite recipes, etc. that is perfectly acceptable. The only requirement is that you send via snail-mail (yes, that might mean a trip to your local post office) something to your target that helps them to learn a little bit more about you and/or your community/culture. Of course, the more you send, the more they'll learn.

d10-5 When you receive your item, it'd be great if you could come back to this GeekList and edit your entry just to give us an idea of what you received. You don't need to go into great detail, but let us know you got the items.

d10-6 And that's all. I don't want to bog this down with rule after rule. Be fair, be friendly. And give yourself a chance to get out there and tell someone a little bit about you, while learning a little bit about someone else.

And for those wondering... I did clear this with Aldie first. So... let's get on with learning about each other.

Hey, Matt, I look forward to learning about the culture from Central Washington.

When most people think of Mardi Gras, they think of New Orleans, but the Mardi Gras tradition is also present here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I look forward to sending someone a package of Mardi Gras trinkets and maybe more!

Andrea, I'll be happy to put together a package from the American mid-west. (Funny its called mid-west cause its actually mid-east in geography). I live in Ohio near Dayton, famous home of the Wright Brothers who invented the first airplane.

For me, I'm interestred in learning about any place outside the US. While I've travelled all over the US I've never made it outside the country (except one excursion into Toronto when I was younger).

I will be sure to find some fun and interesting things about our awesome mountain state to send to you!

If the person following me happens to have some cool Olympic stuff, Harry Potter stuff (pictures, shwag, etc), or Doctor Who stuff to pass along my way, I might be oh so appreciative! Even old and used is pretty cool!

Hope your prepared to receive a firestorm of good things from my neck of the woods. Including maybe some woods.

To my sender, I wouldn't know what to ask. I'm planning on sending a big box (since it's international shipping, I may as well go crazy), but having lots of low cost items inside. I'll check with my victim to make sure everything is good, and would appreciate the same.

To my sender: I'm a big fan of pictures of scenery and buildings and such from other places. And I love languages. I've been known to (discreetly) follow people around a grocery store just to listen to whatever they were speaking. But really I just love learning about other cultures and ways of thinking, so whatever you send I know I'll like. Especially if it's chocolate-covered. ninja

I am from Ottawa, Canada. I love living here, even in the winter. However I enjoy learning about other countries (I took International Relations at University). I have lived in 4 provinces but other than excursions to GenCon I have not traveled outside my country.

Benoit since you live across the ocean I will put together a package from all over this country.

To my sender, I would love to learn about the southern US or anywhere in the world. I love pictures and post cards and will try almost anything edible.

Greetings fellow Canadian! So you want to learn about the Southern U.S.eh? Well I'm the gal to be put to the task.

I am a 29 year old dual citizen of Canada and the USA. I lived in Canada almost all my life until I met my future husband, a native Kentuckian, in 2002. It was a bit easier for me to relocate to the USA because of the whole dual citizen thing (my mother is American, my dad is Canadian) so I have lived in the "north" South since 2004.

It is a very different place than the country we are used to! I will do it justice, and I will be polite, but indeed there are things that occur here that you would NEVER imagine!! I may, perhaps, be a little jaded in my opinion since I do see the worst of the worst by working in law enforcement as a crime scene investigator, but it is a wild world here in Kentucky!

I look forward to piecing together a great package of the nuances, traditions, beauty and heritage this unique state has to offer!!

I've lived in Brooklyn for six years now; after working all day in Manhattan, I love coming home to Brooklyn. I enjoy the amazingly diverse residents and strong neighborhood culture. They say that one in eight Americans can trace their ancestry back through Brooklyn and I often run into "celebrities" on the street. I'm looking forward to putting together a package that reflects the many aspects of city life.

There are many Haitian residents in my neighborhood, and recently the community has come together to organize benefits for Red Cross efforts in Haiti following the devastating earthquake.
