This is the 2010 version of the Thrift Find of the Week, where the week's "best" thrift find is chosen, to be honored by all thrifting geeks.

Last year's list
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/38312

The 2008 list
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/27970

Here's the 2007 list
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/18611

And the 2006 list:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/13367

Criteria for selection include:
Uniquness of the find.
Coolness of the find.
Pure eBay value of the find.
Whatever other whacked-out reasons the judges decide to use...

If you disagree with the judges' decision, please don't hesitate to add your comments, and the judges will arbitrarily make their decisions anyway. laugh

And here we are again, ready for another rousing year of grousing and grats-ing about the Find of the Week. So let's get started, shall we?

Herman got things going with an HAH Acquire on page 1, followed quickly by a GameMaster CotE. an AH HotW kept things moving, and then came Stone Age, TtR:Europe and TtR, with a Tikal thrown in for good measure. Fatetwister64 had a sweet haul of vintage card games. Hawkeyept's find of the OMGMUSTBUYONEFORCHRISTMASONEBAY MindFlex was solid, but paled in comparison to the finds that follow. A shrinkwrapped VG Titan? Score! Star Wars The Queen's Gambit? Always worth FotW consideration. An unpunched Battle Cry? Also always a contender.

But, given this judge's Top 10 list, it seems only fitting to have the #1 FotW for this decade be the first list entry by new user DavidG55311, for his find of an unpunched, cards in shrink copy of the best game there is, We The People.

Another great week for all the thrifting serfs, (as each new years brings us all back down again), with some crazy finds. Tons of quality Euro finds, like Puerto Rico, Mississippi Queen, Alhambra, Shark, Auf Achse, Dragonland, Pandemic and Mr. Jack. Dogfight and Heroquests are always nice, as are HAH Acquire, Rail Baron, a huge not particularly thrifty ASL haul, and a Civ. If you need a copy of Empire Builder, we've got you covered. A pair of Really Nasty Horseracing Games and an SPI War of the Ring were in the running, as was a Gulo Gulo, but in the end it came down to a battle between Ice Floes (seriously how does this end up in a thrift store?), and this week's winner. belial1134 takes it home for a find of two 1830s, both complete, one still in shrink. Insane

As mentioned in a previous thrift find post, the Find of the Week World Headquarters had to relocate recently, and so things have been a bit crazy as we move our staff and equipment. With an operation as big as the FOTW, you can only imagine the amount of work, effort, and time involved.

SO...

What did we find this week? Many very solid finds. Nothing that just grabbed the judges attentions, shouting out, "Yes, I am the one!"

Ticket to Ride with a bonus, Vegas Showdown, Medici vs Strozzi, all solid finds. Lord of the Rings with F&F and Sauron included! Game of the Lost Heir was this judge's pick, but did not get the support it needed. A very cool find. Panzer Battles and Panzerblitz took care of our PB needs, and Torpedo Run! took care of our PT needs.
Ken found an unsprued Acquire, which is wicked cool. There was a nice A&A haul, and Zertz, the Civil War and Gangsters all made appearances. Mississippi Queen was a strong contender, as was an unplayed AH Republic of Rome, and a Betrayal at House on the Hill. But in the end, it came down to smexy plastic bits in a huge package, to give Martin the win for his WoW:TB find.

What an interesting week, one that posed some serious theoretical, or perhaps, rhetorical, questions for the judges. It was a week of "things inside of other things", such as earthboot's find of WS&IM with a bonus copy of FS:SCitAoC&S 1775-1815. Or how about AuraWarrior's mother's find of WoW:TB + 2 expansions! Odd that this game, which ended up as last week's unpopular winner, did very poorly with the judges, leading to question 1: Would the same game ever win FOTW two weeks in a row?

Two Age of Renaissance's were found, which is just crazywtf. And how about two Civilizations. Which leads to question 2: If thrifter 1 finds game x for $2 at a thrift store, and is a serious FOTW contender, and then thrifter 2 gets that same game off of CL and pays say, $50 for it, does the usual duplication rule apply?

Good, (or bad, depending on how you look at it), representation of Euro-finds, such as Leonardo daVinci, Cleopatra, Torres, MQ and the MQ Black Rose, and Caylus. Dune, Republic of Rome and Circus Maximus represented for old school AH, and Civil War represented for the really, really old school AH. Talisman and SW:ED did their part for the trashy side of things, and Aliens didn't get the love it deserved from the judges. Also, the Decision Games find of Empires of the Middle Ages was a pretty crazy find, deserved more love, and is pretty WTF worthy.

In the end however, no one could overcome Starfury's trifecta of Civ, Advanced Civ, and the Western Extension Map all in one box, pulled from the morass of scum and villainy that is craigslist.

What a week! 22 pages of thrift goodness. SO let's see what was found. Reapersaurus had a nice haul of Zooloretto, Carc:H&G and TransAmerica, mrbean had a very nice haul including Android, and Martin grabbed a Battlemist/Kingmaker/Britannia/TTR:E haul. There was a Fortress America, a Shogun, another Zooloretto, multiple Ingeniouss, and berserkley got a Napoleon. Baccus gets a mention for his find of the Starcraft: Typhoon planet inside of some other crappy space game and his find of New York, New York, (somewhat making up for his getting shafted on his signed Gobblet from last week, Reapersaurus also snagged a betrayal, and I got a Roll Through the Ages. Fastfrank got a free Space Hulk/Deathwing, and johnostout grabbed a fan favorite Magic Realm.

But none could topple the find of Dubbelnisse, who slapped down a page 1 Vikingatid, which has been unseen on the thrift lists, and is a ridiculously rare and hard to find game.

A quick start to the week with a Caylus on page 1! Scotian follows that up with a Formula D on page 2. And how about some wargames? Chariot, Pnazer Leader, a couple of VITPs. Classic Ameritrash? We got your Fortress America, Warhammer Quest, Dark Tower, a nice 2nd Edition Blood Bowl, and a couple of older Cosmic Encounter versions, as well as a WoW:TAG. There were multiple Civ finds, a nice haul of euros from sdonahue, and a Struggle of Empires find as well. But in the end it came down to Portland, with Ken pulling in the statue for his find of the "we're gonna reprint this soon, no true story" Kramer classic brain-burner El Caballero.

Well, a very interesting week this week. One might even say there were a ludicrous amount of interesting finds. So let's take a look at the highlights. One thing that can be said, was there was a ton of odd duplicates this week. We had your standard HeroQuest duplicates, but Tycoon and Villa Paletti are a bit odd. Defense of Rourke's Drift was pretty sweet, as were other wargame notables such as Battle Cry, and a beat-up Napoleon In Europe, (which didn't get the love from the judges it deserved). Notable Euro finds included Evo, bakelite Hive, Tsuro and a german El Grande.

But in the end, it was the detestable, yet highly desirable, San Marco that brings home the statue for King Mazinga.

It was another good week for the thrifters, one with some amazing duplicate finds. Biggest of these being 2 copies of Up Front. Crazy. HeroQuest, Sid Meier's Civ, a slew of Big Boggles, and Netrunner all over the place. Kudos to Meat for leaving a pair BTW. Also multiple Mindflexes. The big winner in terms of thumbs this week was a We The People find, but with the Washington's War reprint out there, this seems to be losing some FotW cachet with the judges.

A 1960's Park and Shop was a sweet find, as were Ark of the Covenant, Tsuro, Niagara, Junta, and Ken's find of Alpha Omega. But in the end, it came down to two finds. SurfinDecoy's wife find of an HAH Acquire was very nice, and was just edged out by FeelGoodND's find of the hard-to-find Napoleon In Europe which takes home this week's statue.

Wow what a week. 21 pages of thrifty goodness. It was the week of Ambush!, with three of them found. Not to mention the Red Novembers and Master of Venices and Cosmic Encounters and the like. A German Starfarers got the week started on a sweet note, and the German was to continue throughout the week with a German Taj Mahal and Around the World in 80 days also being found. Ken found a Druidenwalzer and there were finds of Hera and Zeus, Samurai Swords, and a HeroQuest. A very solid Space Hulk find, with Deathwing and Genestealers expanions included, as well as a Lord of the Rings with Friends and Foes and Sauron got the "bonus finds" train rolling. PurpleBeard's find of Age of Conan was insane, (too bad about that missing Conan though), but all fall short of the haul pulled in by Pyrogal, who snagged a ludicrous number of wargames at a flea market, topped in this judge's opinion, by Roads to Gettysburg.

Another 21 page week full of thrifty goodness. This week was dominated by two luscious hauls. The first was from Caliburn, and included such finds as Expedition, Escape from Atlantis, LotR with F&F and Sauron, some older Euros, some AHs and Caligula

The second haul was from bretcliftawn, which started with a Gunslinger, moved quickly to a B-17, and then romped through a good bit of 1980s AH games, and put the cherry on the top with an Aces to Aces.

But the single finds were very strong this week as well, with a Fortress America, a St. Petersberg, a Starfarers, (in English this week), Buck Rodgers, Battlestar Galactica, and the usual duplications with Rail Baron and Heroquest. A Wizards of Morcar HQ expansion got some attention from the judges, as did Gloria Mundi, Puerto Rico, Iron Dragon and an SPI WOTR.

In the end it came down to a battle of AH heavy-hitters, with the grail game of Age of Renaissance yuk battling it out with not one but two copies of The Civil War, one unpunched, and one still in shrink. BlaiseandTara take home the statue for this completely ludicrous find.

What a week! Starfarers? No problem. Armed and Dangerous? Yep. Gibson Kingmaker with AH variant cards?!? Uh-huh. How about a 53 cent CArc or a purple Diplomacy ( which btw, makes it EPIC!)

And how about a ludicrous haul from freechinanow, capped off with Dune, immediately followed by Furunkulus' find of a wood tile Acquire. A very nice Talisman 3rd Edition haul was made, but the judges have seemingly moved on to 4th Edition...

And then there was an innocuous post at the bottom of page 3.

Sweet cliffhanger.

This week's award goes to scoutmom, for her five-Settler's haul.

Wow, quite a week. It seems like there were an awful lot of pretty much brand-new games found this week, alson with some huge hauls. Dominion got things started on page 2, The GMT Blackbeard kept it going. I found a Domaine, there were multiple Alhambras, El Grande, Talisman 4th Ed,, Catan Geopraphies and Dice, and 1960.

Old stuff wasn't missing either, with a Fortress America and GM Conquest of the Empire, more Axis and Allies subgames than you can shake a stick at, Fireball Island, and a Dungeonquest + expansion. In terms of hard to find, we had a See Queue, a Risk 40th Anniv. Ed, and Extinction: The Game of Ecology. And for nice bits, you have Erniepaul's find of the brass tigers in Bagh Chal. And hauls? Well, fastfrank was certainly the thrifter of the week, with a haul of AH goodness including Age of Renaissance, Battle Masters and Eurorails, the aforementioned Catan games and just a ton of additions to the list. shfinfrock also had a ludicrous haul of AH, including Panzer Leader, Squad Leader, WS&IM, Ambush and B-17.

But in the end the statue this week goes to sababth_ for his find of a barely played PoF.

Another solid week of finds, but a smaller list, and much less depth to this week's finds. For Sale was an awesome find, quickly followed by Skittle Bowl, Talisman and LotR:TC. Skipster's CL haul of 2 TI3s and a Shattered Empire was ludicrous, and there was a nice Republic of Rome find, an Epic Duels find, and jsharp had a nice find of Supremacy, with a couple of expansions inside. But the haul that got it done was johnostouts huge haul of AH-ey goodness, including Flat Top, VITP, WS&IM, and this week's winner, Magic Realm, which just edged out isawa_mo's find of a nicely bagged Battle Cry.

Unpunched Civ, Escape for Colditz, Samurai Swords, Betrayal, Tonga Bonga!!!, Risk 40 Year Anniversary, Tumblin Dice, Goldbrau?!?!?, Wiz-War, TTR, (and a TTR 1910), Union Pacific, Battle Cry, Black Rose, MECCG Balrog decks, Ingenous, Puerto Rico x2, Epic Duels x2, Princess and the Dragon, Starfarers and San Juan.

But none could top red_gamster's find of a Catan 3D. Here's hoping it stays his.

A lackluster week overall, dominated by the Target finds of A&A '42. Quite a few "out of favor" Euros popped up, such as Villa Paletti, Australia, Keythedral, Drunter and Druber, Niagara, Hellas Galopp Royale, and a German Alhambra. That's four SdJ winners right there!

newboy had a nice haul including Starfarers, MotAbbey, TtR, Pirate's Cove, and SoC. On the wargame side htere was a Gettysburg 125th, and NUTS!

Daytona 500, HeroQuest, and Qwirkle rounded out the list of usual suspects. But in the end it was the big, bad, box O' dice that philewis found to bring home the win with Tumblin' Dice.

Quite a week, especially for the wargames. First off, an SPI WotR, and Onslaught and Bitter Woods and then a huge haul from dogmatix with TRC, FE, Hue, French Foreign Legion, Zulu Attack!, topped off by Up Front. OMG.

I found Battlelore, and then fastfrank, not wanting to be outdone by dogmatix pulled in his own haul of wargamey-goodness with Cross of Iron, TRC, AK and D-Day. He also pulled in a Puerto Rico and Carcasone and NY Chase in another haul. And Manimal snagged Magic Realm, Britannia and Blood Bowl. But in the end, a more peaceful find(s) took home the statue with Soltan Gris' find of Year of the Lord and/or Journeys of St. Paul. Two very, very rare games, and a pretty amazing pickup.

Berserkley did well scoring a fellow gamers moving detritus, including Flat Top and U-Boat. TtR, MotA Citadels and Carolus Magnas got picked up, as well as a pair of Super Mario Bros. Betrayal, War of the Ring, WWII:BtB were all sweet, as was the huge haul from Frankenfletch. But in the end, fastfrank had his usual huge haul, topped off with Mutant Chronicles, Blood Bowl, and this weeks winner, Wiz-war with expansion, (despite the reprint, coming any day now...), just edging out indigos find of Ecology.

So the week starts off with a bang, with a King Oil, (duplicated later in the week), and then Herman had a haul. How about Dvonn and 2nd Ed. Blood Bowl? Air Empire and Dispatcher made a nice haul for justplainchips, then Erik made a nice haul of Haba and Ravensburger goodies including Klondike and Nacht der Magier. Caliburn then followed with a haul of Space Marines and WH40K goodies. Multiple Civs were found, as well as 2 finds of 2nd Edition Space Hulk. Other notable finds included an old Robo Rally, Genoa, A Game of Thrones, Epic Duels, Stone AGe, Zertz, Raj, Daytona 500, WoW:TAG and a GW Fury of Dracula. There were also a few old game finds such as Trade Winds. But in the end, Herman's haul takes the statue, for a shrinked Power Grid to go along with the aforementioned.

"It was a week of finds it was a week of hauls..."

Dark Tower got things going on page 1, along with a Descent, and then a Big City. And then the hauls start rolling in. Erik pulled in a Tikal, Bohnanza, Flying Dutchman, etc. Escape from Colditz and a GW Warrior Knights was a nice haul. Berserkley grabbed a Daytona 500 and an FFG Fury of Dracula. Three Ticket to Ride's were found this week, Ken snagged an Epic Duels. Peepser had a haul of Armada, Ideology and Easter Island, there were multiple Fortress Americas, a Heroquest with 4 expansions, and a Scarab Lords. But back to the hauls. Frankenfletch got one including Oasis, Saga, and the Bridges of Shangri-La. Atriel4 got one with Carc, Warcraft, and Goa! Pietlavens got a bunch of card games and That's Life. Boscorooty pulled in a ton of Crossbows and Catapults.

But in the end, none could compete with Dumpster Divin' PurpleBeard, who came out of the bin with Ticket To Ride, Cosmic Encounter, A&A, CArc, New World, Risk Revised, Risk: Halo, and this week's winner, Dominion. WTF

Another ludicrous week of finds...

Dampfross, multiple Up Fronts, Circus Maximus, Starfarers, Carc H&G, multiple San Juans, Space Crusade, San Marco, Magic Realm, Quandry. Dogmatix had a huge haul of old AH goodness, Empire in Arms, Tikal, Alhambra, Mutant Chronicles, another huge haul by Martin, Blood Bowl, a big box Acquire, yet another haul from Martin with Broadsides, Dogfight, and Battle-Cry. Torres, and C.V..

But in the end it was my find of Small World that takes it home this week.

In an attempt to catch up, I'm going to skip a lot of detail.
Empire Builder, Niagara, Fireball Island, King Oil, Titan: The Arena, 7 Ages, Betrayal. Zooloretto, Dark Tower, Puerto Rico, Starcraft. Bisikle, Battle Cry, and Descent.

Blackwind takes if home for an A&A Anniversary edition.

So not such a great week in terms of finds that caught the judges' eyes. It was the week of Ploy, that much can be said. There was a Formule De to start off the week, There was a Pandemic. There was a Violent World of Pro Hockey, which is epic. There was a big box Acquire, an Assault on Hoth, And then there was this week's winner, a huge lot of Talisman, bringing it home for bigmac.

Civ, Elasund, Broadside and Boarding Parties, Evo, Ark of the Covenant, Dogfight, Fireball Island and Through the Desert. But herebebooks takes home the hardware for an unpunched Fortress America.
