Welcome everyone to the February 2010 Edition of the Geekgold for Game Lottery. Thanks Blott for the amazing Idea and thanks everyone who took part all these times.

These are the Rules

How to bid for an item?
If you see an item on this geeklist that you're interested in owning:
1. It couldn't be more simple. Just tip that entry 1 and you are entered to win that game.
2. Check the description to see if you are allowed more than one entry on the item.

How to put an item on the lottery?
If you have a game that you're willing to part with for a little geekgold:
1. Post it as an item on the list.
2. Include a full description of the edition that you have and its condition. Be very clear on conditions, marks and box
3. Specify if you will be limited in shipping options. If you ship internationally, if the shipping is on you, and if so how much.
4. Specify when your item will close for entries.
5. You can post both RPG Items and Boardgames.
6. The item must be draw before 28th of February 2010

What to do when the lottery ends?
1. When closed, draw a random name from those that have tipped your entry. If you allowed multiple entries remember to take it in consideration.
2. Contact that person and arrange shipment of the game.
3. Send them the game.
4. Edit your geeklist item on this list with a note saying that "THIS ITEM IS CLOSED!" and to put the avatar of the winner, use the code [ username=name_of_winner] (without the space) for that.
5. When an item is closed I will move it to the bottom of the list. Please don't delete them

How to find the winner?
You can use any fair method you like, like putting the names on a hat and drawing it. But there are two favored methods.

1. First we have the Original Awesome Tool. Created by jeromier. It is very simple to use, but can only deal with one type of bonus (X bonus GG for each Y GG tipped) and limit the amount of tip.

2. Second we have the Copycat Awesome Tool created by yours truly. It can deal with any amount of items drawn on your listing, and any kind of bonus calculation that deals with the tip values only (and a few others). The rolls are trackable for anyone to see, and you can use it anytime to check how many tips and the winning percentage of everyone. It has a few statistics which I'm improving on. The only thing is that for an item to use it, it must be inserted by me, and that takes about 1 or 2 days, usually.

Special notes
Special Note #1: If you are giving an item, there is no guarantee for number of entrants. You must be prepared to give away your game even if you only receive a single geekgold entry. Do not enter a game unless you are prepared for that outcome!!

Special Note #2: If for any reason you are forced to withdraw a game you offered, you must refund all geekgold tipped to your entry.

Winners and Drawn Items
Subscribe to the Subscription thread. I update it (usually) daily, and there you can find a list of new items, and the winners list of all the lists we run so far.

CLOSED - WINNER DRAWN! thumbsupbagthumbsup
This game is new in the shrink.

Will ship to anywhere in the world for free if it gets over 100 bag, otherwise free shipping to U.S. + Canada, first $8 everywhere else.

Will leave this open until February 28.

1 = 1 entry, 5 = 6 entries

I will use the Awesome Copycat Tool to pick a winner.

edit: Less than a week to go, and we're still a little bit shy of the 100 amount. So as an added sweetener (and I mean literally) I will throw in a coupon for a free Friendly's Ice Cream Jubilee Roll - you know, one of those ice cream logs you get at the holidays?? I went to a charity auction + won a booklet of coupons for free Friendly's stuff, and I'm at the point where I'm looking to share the ice cream love. I know this probably doesn't appeal to anyone who doesn't have a Friendly's near them, but you can also use it at your local grocer. It's a $7 value - and who doesn't like ice cream?

On the Gods of Luck spoke, and using their might powers of random generations they chose an winner. To check their bidding, click here. Below you can find glory on the winners name, let them have big praise.

There were a total of 1 for this item:

With a total of 5 geekgold tipped, which gave him\her a 4.03% chance of victory, we salute:

This fairly hard-to-find iteration of Carcassonne is a big hit in my family. I'm happy to have acquired it even though I had to pay slightly more than MSRP for it when I finally did land a copy.

My wife approves of anything with a biblical theme, and my son appreciates the fact that there's a game about that thing Indiana Jones was looking for in Raiders.

I just like having a game they'll play with me.

At any rate, I wish you luck with this. If I hadn't nabbed a copy yet, I'd be all over it.

Great alternate to basic Carcassone.
The field scoring is much simpler, unfortunately the Temples (Monastery equivalents) are much more awkward both in actual scoring and their thematic justification.
The addition of the Ark I think is great for beginners. While it does add an extra rule it means there is still something a player can do to score points on their turn if all their meeples are stuck out on the board.

If I did not already own a copy I would be tipping on this one.

This is my favorite version of Carcassonne, and awesome for beginners. Simply using the sheep/wolves scoring a la Hunters and Gatherers instead of the traditional farm scoring makes this much more accessible to non-gamers.

THIS ITEM IS CLOSED.
Winner posted at bottom of listing

Some have called Warmaster the best of Games Workshop's tabletop battle game rules sets. It is the Old World equivalent to Epic 40k and the progenitor to the "Battle of Five Armies" epic battle rules for the Lord of the Rings setting.

In this lottery, I am offering up the main rulebook and

a complete boxed Empire Starter Army + Extras
(Total army units included are: 1 General, 2 Great Cannons, 2 Crossbowmen Units, 2 Halberdier Units, 1 Unit of Empire Knights)

You could buy these from GW for roughly the price I paid for my first house.

CONDITION:
The rule book is in very good condition, with the lone blemish being a small red drink stain along the absolute bottom of some of the pages near the spine. It's barely visible when looking at the open pages of the book. It is obvious when looking at the bottom of the closed book.

The starter army has has been opened and assembled, and will be packed in the original box. The extra halberdier unit and the extra crossbowmen unit are still in the blister packs.

SHIPPING:
Shipping is FREE in the continental U.S.

Shipping anywhere else is at the winner's expense.

If the total amount of GG tipped reaches 150 GG, I will ship free worldwide.

150 GG reached. Shipping is now FREE worldwide!

CLOSING TIME:
Lottery ends some time the evening of Feb. 28. If my pattern holds, that will probably mean late in that evening. I will post "closing soon" notes that day to make the end time more specific.

RULES FOR ENTRY:

1 GG = 1 entry, 5 GG = 6 entries. Additionally, I'll award 5 more bonus entries for every 20 GG bid (Because Warmaster is Epic and it should reward Epic bids).

So, for example:
10 GG = 12 Entries
17 GG = 20 Entries
20 GG = 29 Entries
100 GG = 145 Entries
(You know you want to.)

MY TOOL OF CHOICE:
There is but one tool, and its name is Sol's tool

EDIT
Clarified the description of units included.

EDIT 2
Edited to note free worldwide shipping has been triggered.

THIS ITEM IS CLOSED.

AND THE WINNER IS
With a total of 1 geekgold tipped, which gave him\her a 0.12% chance of victory, we salute:

LOL. His initial post sounded a little too innocent and helpful. I was pretty certain he was mistaken or very, very good at dead pan sarcasm. As I'm fluent in dead pan sarcasm it just didn't sound dry enough to me for the latter to be the case. Have another quarter of an entry Kyle.

Okay, friends, lemme go pick this one!

Yes, a brand new copy of this wonderful supplement! [if you click on the image, thats a HORSE getting tentacled throug the air!] I will offer free shipping anywhere in the USofA, and $6 toward worldwide shipping.

The standard 5 GeekGold bonus equals 6 applies, and I will do the drawing February 27th using the cool (copycat) tool clone.

I've had some fun, but its time to build the coffers after burying my bank account in Melody's backyard! I need to be ready to pour this gold back into other funstuff!

I'll shill with the advertising available; I am seeking Cthulhu miniatures for a variety of gaming experiences, so GeekMail me if you've some old ones (or Old Ones!) lying around collecting dust!

AND, an item I found buried on my bookshelf recently, a pretty newish copy of AC #12, though there is a price sticker on the top front corner. Its very nice and includes some great stuff.

Likewise to the above, free shipping in the USofA and $6 coverage worldwide, which might cover it (depending upon destination).

No limit on entries, and the usual 5 GeekGold equals 6 applies. I want to do these drawings all together so this one'll end on the 27th also and use the copycat tool!

Thanks!

This listing is for a brand new T-Shirt, from my apparel line (making it's debut here).

You choose the size, adult S-2XL

"It is only we who play badly who love the game itself."

The quote is from G.K. Chesterton's essay "The Perfect Game" It's appropriate for a number of games (he was talking about croquet in the essay), even Detroit Lions fans.

5 = 6 entries

FREEblankSHIPPINGblankWORLDWIDE

To end noonish EST on February 28.

BONUS BOUNTY:

If the winner posts a pic of someone wearing the shirt and it gets approved here on BGG, I'll tip it 10

If the person wearing the shirt is a human female, I'll tip 20

If the human female is "hot" or "mature" I'll tip 50 Nevermind, that's asking for trouble.

If this goes over well, I'll consider posting other new gaming shirts.

Game:
This is the original 1989 Aliens games from Leading Edge Games.

Condition / Contents:
The game is in decent shape but it has seen a lot of play and therefore has box and item wear. The rulebook has a small coffee stain on the cover. I believe it has all items but I'm not 100% sure as the rulebook never covered the contents in detail and has a count discrepancy between the back of the box (47 tokens) and the rulebook (49 tokens). My does have 49 tokens in total but I have heard differences in token counts between various copies (i.e. I have 3 facehuggers, others have reported 4 or even 5).

Also it's important to note for those not familiar with this game that the original production quality wasn't very good even for a brand new game. The Alien reference card, the marine/character cards and all the tokens were heavily perforated card stock and looked kinda crappy even when new. Here is an example image to show what I mean. IMO this was to push sales on Leading Edge' line of miniatures for the game.

Having said all this, it is a fun little game.

Here IS what is in the box:
1x Map
1x Rule Book
1x Rules Summary booklet
1x Alien Reference board with Sulako: Queen vs. Ripley in Powerloader map

16x character cards w/related character token (2 tokens for Ripley)
1x Turn token
1x Door token
5x Fire tokens
3x Facehugger tokens
1x Queen token
21x Warrier tokens
Stands for all tokens

1x d10

Bidding:
1 geekgold = 1 bid
5 geekgold = 6 bids

I will be using the Original Awesome Tool to determine the winner.

Shipping:
Anywhere in the US is free.
I will pay the first $12 to anywhere else.

Close Date:
This lottery will close on Feb 28th Feb 27th (see update 2 below) and I'll be able to ship out the day after same day.

MAJOR UPDATE!
I found out that I have to fly to Colorado Springs on the 28th for work.
Therefore I will be closing this first thing the morning of the 28th and determining the winner. I will post the winner and get the shipping box ready and my wife will be sending it out on Monday.

MAJOR UPDATE PART 2!
I hate to remove a whole day of bidding for you guys, however the more I thought about it the more I felt compelled to ensure that I am the one making the shipping happen properly and on time. It's not that I don't trust my wife, I just don't want to push the responsibility off onto her.

Since this is my first GfGG I'm determined to put my best foot forward, particularly in regards to this getting into the hands of the winner. Therefore this auction will be closing the morning of Feb 27th, the winner will be determined and announced and the shipping will happen that day!

Note: This is my first time putting an item on this lottery so please don't hesitate to let me know if I need to change anything.

EDIT: Adding second closed notice as one at top may not be visible enough with my wall-o-text entry.

Yeah I can see what you are saying and I can take your point.

But I see our failure in Vietnam as a political one not a military one. Sure we had little real experience with modern warfare in a jungle environment but that impact on the overall war was minimal.

When you have White House staff, up to and including the President selecting tactical targets you may as well give it up.

I think war is a bad thing and should be avoided whenever possible. However I'm also a realist and so I do think there are times when it is unavoidable (for many potential reasons). When you can't avoid it then your entire focus should be on achieving victory as quickly and, frankly as brutally as possible. The concept of a "limited war", i.e. Vietnam, is basically an admission that winning said war is secondary to other considerations. It's a recipe for failure in my opinion.

It's interesting how we went from the Aliens game to Vietnam though!

If by some miracle I happen to win, bring the game with you instead of shipping it. You'll save the shipping costs by handing it to me in person.

He hasn't edited the entry yet to reflect this - possibly he is on his business trip? - but he geekmailed me this morning to inform me that I'd won and then shipped it. People should consider this closed.

(No, this isn't a "ha ha I want to win so I'm discouraging people from entering" joke sort of thing.)

Uh.. Yes I did. It was the first thing I did. Can you guys not see the giant red "CLOSED" at the top followed by you as the winner?

Or was I also supposed to also post a reply?

Edit: Perhaps in hindsight I should have put that at the bottom also, hear the actual GG tip area. I did already have to return someone's GG who bid 200 AFTER I had added the CLOSED bit at the top.

I'm kinda worried that only I can see that edit or something.

The words "copy of the game that" can be read two ways. In either case a game sat on a podium. If the referent of "that" is "game", this is a copy of that game. If the referent of "copy", this is that copy which sat.

So which?

I just now looked at your to entry ratios and saw that 5 gets you a better ratio than 10. Is this intentional? Do we still get the 10 bonus entries even if we enter 10 times for a total of 110 entries, or 120 entries based on 60x2 for 5x2 ?

I forgot to drop a mention that I received the game. The contents had rattled around a bit, so I must glue the Yellow hobbit which snapped in half, but otherwise things were in good order.
