Where was the January update? Well, the situation didn't quite warrant an update in January so I decided to wait until February for more developments. Certainly, things are a lot clearer now as Randy has completed the artwork for Saipan & Tinian, Island War Series - Volume I and the game should be released by this month or the next. The artwork for this game and Tanga 1914 looks mighty spiffy!
All LWG games saw increases even if only a little. Some concern expressed about the slow increase for Hell Over Korea, 1950 seems to have prompted a slight surge in orders. Concern away, people!
Legion Wargames is also expected to publish 3 new games, which will be added to the pre-order list by 2010.
Maori Wars: The New Zealand Land Wars, 1845-1872 - It must be mine! Picket Duty - Okinawa: March - June 1945 Waters of Oblivion - on the British invasion of Argentina in 1806-07

Randy posted the following on Jan 28 in CSW. So my guess is expect the game in March, but there's always hope for a February release.
Quote: Guys,
This week Mike and I, with much help from Hans Korting, have proofed and finalized and counter sheets for this game. I will be doing the final file layout this weekend and sending them off to the printer on Monday. I don't have a hard release date yet as there is still some work to be done but this is a big hurdle in the production process. My best guess at this point is approximately 6 weeks.
I think I will do things slightly different with the invoicing this time and not send out the email notification until the game is ready to be shipped, instead of one month prior. That way once you log in to your account and pay for the game it wont' be far behind. It's better for the customer and it will help me at the same time because I can process mass shipping labels from Paypal, but only for invoices less than 30 days old.

The game covers two individual battles on the US invasion of Saipan and Tinian in the summer of 1944. Saipan and Tinian were the objectives for the NTLF, with Saipan being the immediate objective and Tinian the second.

The game is the first of the Pacific Island Series game system. The series will also include Guam - Vol. II , and Peleliu - Vol. III.

Expands the original KPG game B-29 Superfortress, which was one of the top Cyberboard downloads from Limey Yank Games.
As the expansion, Hell over Korea covers B-29 missions in the Korean War from November 1950 through April 1951.
The time period covered was chosen because it was the most dynamic period of the war for the B-29. In November 1950 the Chinese Communists were in the war, and the B-29 began facing its first serious opposition with the introduction of large numbers of Soviet MiG-15 jet fighters, specifically designed to shoot down B-29s and the aging Superfortresses were outmatched by the jet, even with fighter escorts.

Slouch Hats and Eggshells recreates the World War II month-long campaign in French-held Syria and Lebanon. This is the war in which Moshe Dayan lost his eye and dons the signature eyepatch for the rest of his life. Yitzhak Rabin also fought here as part of the Palmach while Roald Dahl flew Hurricanes.
Vance has also included a scenario that speculates on what the Germans might have sent had the French invited them to participate.
Vance has rules for this game to be combined with his other game being republished by L2 Design, Rommel's War.
Most units in the game represent battalions and regiments, with some companies and brigades. The map scale is at 10 miles per hex, while each turn represents 10 days.

A short wargame with a very interesting premise - It's a solitaire game which puts players play the role of General Sir Redvers Buller trying to cross the Thukela River on the 15th December 1899 in order to relieve the Siege of Ladysmith. Can they avoid the historical fate of Buller who was defeated by well-entrenched Boer commandoes (played by the game system) and who was ultimately relieved of command?

The game designer Michael Erwin is continuing to work on the order of battles and is hoping to add a third scenario to the game.
Earlier, Michael said he would be designing two separate games using the Tatchanka system to focus on two periods of the Russian Civil War.
One of these, currently titled, Fall of the Directory will cover the many-sided conflict running from the German surrender until [historically] after the Bolshevik capture of Kiiv.
The other, currently titled Makhno's Return will cover the Makhnovist insurgency from the battle of Perehonivka to the liberation, and then loss, of Katerynoslav [Yekaterinoslav]. In addition, the Red Army pursues the Volunteer Army onto the map. It historically recaptured Kiiv and Kharkiv in this period.

Apparently, this design originated from Philip Sabin's course on conflict simulation in King's College London. http://www.kcl.ac.uk/schools/sspp/ws/people/academic/profess...
The Battle of Soissons, 18 July to 28 July, 1918, was the first time that full-size US divisions went on the offensive incorporated in the French army. But most importantly, it was the opening of the Second Battle of the Marne. It not known at the time, although suspected by many, that this battle was the death-knell of the German army.

Designer John Poniske has also described a very interesting aspect of his game revolving around Burnside's indecision during this battle in the link below.
http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?14@@.1dd3a0e6/396
Fire on the Mountain is a simulation of the Battle of South Mountain and concentrates on the action around Turner's Gap and Fox's Gap. It will emphasize the difficulty of mountainous terrain and the seesaw nature of a battle into which reinforcements continue to trickle and officer casualties effect combat operations. The game uses simple mechanics to simulate movement, artillery, cavalry, leaders, and difficult terrain, with a unique combat system that allows the game to move quickly while still simulating the tense nature of the battle. The game will be produced with double-wide counters (1 1/4" x 5/8") and oversized hexes to accommodate them.
Game scale: Units: Brigades Map: Each hex equals 300 yards Turn: Each game turn represents 1 hour

It will also have three campaigns.

Steve Dixon, the designer, is working on the rules and hopes to have the game to playtesters soon.
Steve, who designed B-29 Superfortress, has come up with another solitaire game.
This time, you're a captain of a Fletcher Class destroyer performing radar picket duty off Okinawa in 1945. The goal - survive the day as kamikazes try to sink your ship and inflict maximum damage to the U.S. fleet supporting the U.S. troops on the island.

Waters of Oblivion is not in the BGG database yet.
Not much is known about it except that it's on the British invasion of Argentina during the Napoleonic Wars and that it is designed by Joseph Miranda and Jaiver Romero.

Since I'm almost exclusively into wargames with a dose of politcs, CDGs and block games, I'm not really the target audience here.
I've ordered though Ici c'est la France. Looks like my sorta game.
Anyway, looks like Legion Wargames is one of the promising Young Turks of wargame publishing. I dare say they'll at times have also a game I'll want to have.
Singapore
Maori Wars: The New Zealand Land Wars, 1845-1872, although it looks like traditional hex-and-counter game, should also have a strong "political" angle, given the nature of that war.

Perhaps, but I don't think you can take that for granted.
I'm in the David Dockter camp. Wargames covering whole wars without giving heed to politics are basically "silly chess".
To my mind, most strategic-scale wargames overly neglect political affairs. Much to the detriment of their simulation quality. It's my biggest beef regarding wargame design.

I agree, although I wished the good Docktor had created a more streamlined game. A wargame with an overwrought political component does not make a good strategic-scale wargame either.

When I read the ToC rules, I failed a commitment check when it came to the special factional rules.
And, admittedly, I often had to ask myself while reading the rules whether a particular issue could have been simulated to the same effect without the added complexity.
But just because ToC stretches my chrome tolerance, doesn't mean it's not a good strategic-scale wargame. I'd have to play it to ascertain that.
