I'm a board gaming fan from about three years now, and when I look to the past games I see that I missed a lot of good games!

For most of them, I'm still in time, I need just to push some button in my favorite online shop, enter my credit card number, and after a few days they are ready to play!

But for some of them, life is not so easy: they are difficult to found and in the case very expensive!

We need someone to reprint them!

For someone the Martin Wallace best design, for sure a great game that fits great mechanics with a great theme!
In 2006 some news reported of a possible reprint by "What's your game", but these hopes were wrecked.

One of the Splotter Masterpiece, already had a reprint run, many people are asking for a third one since 2000 copies was not enough to satisfy all the people wanting this game!
Roads and Boats already made to the third reprint, why not Antiquity!?!

The oldest of the list (at least for the moment...) trace back to 1991!
Still lot a people talking about "Making your own copy", starting from old Civilization editions (mostly cheaper German and French versions).
A new "full" edition, that includes both base game and expansion, with maybe some minor tweaking, should be appreciated...

Yeah, but a reprint would seriously devalue my copy! (Probably serves me right, though, since this game has just been sitting on my shelf for twenty years, and now my wife has bought Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization which is likely to take the limelight.)

I have this memory of going to the Phillipsburg Mall to buy a wedding present for a friend back in 1995 and finding a shelf full of boxes of Advanced Civilization. This shelf confused me greatly, because I had never heard of the board game. I knew only the computer game, and after examining these boxes closely, I concluded that these were not oddly packaged computer games. Then I wondered if I would like this strange game, but it seemed moot because the box clearly said it was an expansion and not a complete game. So I left the shelf behind and went and bought... a clock, I think it was. I got lots of clocks for my friends' weddings back in the day.

Little did I suspect that one day it would be one of my favorite games, and I would kick myself for not getting a copy. Or getting several and selling the others. Ah well. I was a poor grad student. It wouldn't have worked anyway.

We had 7 people playing Adv Civ last yesterday and it was (and always is) pure joy. 11 hours wasn't quite enough for a full game but nonetheless the everyone seemed to be happy (including the newbies, who weren't even close of winning the game).

I just can't see that this game would have enough demand that anyone would actually be interested in publishing a reprint.

A Treefrog game...
The edition says everything:1500 copies sold and none left. Maybe not the best one, but I found that this game plays excellently in three. (Yes, I know it can be played only in 3!)
I was there, in Essen 2008, and was very uncertain if buy my copy. It was my first Essen, and my first year as a board game geek , and still doesn't know Wallace designs... I decide that my bag was already full and didn't buy it, so... my fault!

A very fun game, with a nice theme and nice graphics, some interesting mechanics, and a modular board to keep a smooth play independently from the number of players.
Was one of the first "modern" boardgames I tried and had it's influence to make me a board games enthusiast!
I was very lucky a friend managed to find and gift me a copy!

Love this game. The other small change is to ditch the dang tall cylindars that track your score and constantly fall over.. and never fit on the track if two players are tied... just as bad as the cylindars in Elfenland that roll all over the table.

If MMP has a hand on it...wait another decade or so and then be ready to pay at least what a good old copy would cost and then make sure you pre-order so that you get a copy because if you don't there won't be another shot at buying it for another 10 years.

Frontline: D-Day

Frontline General: Spearpoint 1943

Frontline D-Day and Spearpoint 1943 are both card based ww2 games. I've tried Frontline D-Day and it's a fast game with interesting mechanics for terrain, range, firepower, and damage. No dice, damage is determined by drawing chits from a cup. Cover helps to soak up damage. The art is illustrations of soldiers. A little cartoonish for me, but I wouldn't let it turn you away from a good game. It's a brand new game and a couple of reviews are up already.

Spearpoint 1943 is in preorder right now, but due very soon (IIRC it's made its number and is in production). If preordered, it's a little cheaper than D-Day and looks to be a bit heavier. The game includes tanks and artillery (I believe D-Day is limited to infantry with mortar support, I could be wrong.)* Dice are used to determine hits, random cards are drawn for damage effects. Art is historical photographs. A preview for the game is available here: Spearpoint Preview.

A third alternative is the print and play redesign of Up Front for the fan that's more of a do-it-yourselfer.

*Sure enough, I was wrong about this piece. Joe Steadman's video review of Frontline D-Day shows that armor is included.

My FLGS has these in stock right now. I keep wanting to pick up Small World, but whenever I almost do I never even think of grabbing these as well. I like to play games as released for awhile before expanding (I still play Arkham Horror straight up with no expansions). I guess if they are there when I buy the game I will definitely pick these up as well.

In early June, 2006, I placed an order for Big City, only to find out that the [unnamed] company warehouse hold sold their last copy the day before!

So I have been waiting for four years for the reprint (which has been promised many times).

It is just painful that such a wonderful blending of theme and mechanics will be forced to be re-themed. I couldn't bear the thought of playing this in the Twilight Imperium universe, so I reached deep into my pockets and paid for the original 1979 version.cry

I was talking with my brother about the whole why would the family not agree to a reprint of this if there is a market(even if it is only a eurogame sized payout, not a parker brothers one, money is money). He raised the point that with a new Dune movie in sight they have probably signed rights for a game agreement (board or video) that precludes this. We can only hope a new movie will lead a decent reissue or reprint.

The Dune reprint will arrive when Dune enters the public domain, and not before. If you want to see a proper reprint of this magnificent game, there's really nothing you can do except lobby for sensible intellectual property reform.

Unfortunately, In the US that means ending the Disney Corporation, because every time Steamboat Willie comes close to exiting copyright, they lobby HARD to extend Copyright another 20 years.

It's funny (or, rather, it's not funny -- as usual) to see Penny Arcade take a swipe at Brian Herbert. I can't imagine the new Dune books are any worse than Penny Arcade (or the Penny Arcade videogame, speaking of whoring it up for the money).

It is a wonderful game that is very fun to play, great for non-gamers, but gives gamers a lot to think about with regard to valuing the dockmaster. Really, one of my favorites.

Besides the fact that I'd really like a copy. I think the recent expansion of the boardgame market across different demographics and the appeal to vinophiles would make this title moderately profitable.

While I'd like to see it reprinted as well, from what I've read, I'm not sure this will get reprinted because of ownership uncertainty (people are not sure who owns it)

The normal game is all that's worth playing from the vast majority of comments I've read (combat and rastur variants mostly add time and complexity).

However, I have enjoyed making it for under $40 and playing it with dath kadens graphical redesign.

Making Dathkaden MoV remake on the cheap ($40 or less) w/ pics

Have you considered Duck Dealer? From a quick look at the rules, it's very much the same sort of game, albeit souped up and probably a bit longer. I'd expect if you have Duck dealer, you don't really need MoV. Haven't tried DD myself though (still have my copy of MoV gathering dust, it was too good to give away...)

I have it and have not yet played it yet, but it doesn't look nearly as good as the copy of MoV I made with the redesigned graphics

This would be a welcome reprint, but they have to upgrade the surface-to-surface combat rules, which are too abstract in the original.

I've got the basic edition, plus the Coral Sea Variant that was available through the mail (covers the carrier battles of Coral Sea, Eastern Solomons, Santa Cruz, and naval battle of Guadalcanal). While the expansions require a bit more bookkeeping for tracking land-based aircraft on bases, they are fun additions to a simple but elegant system. By adding ships like Lexington, Wasp, Zuikaku, Shokaku, and the US BBs, it allows plaers to make What If scenarios.

I'd settle for Midway-style search boards for use with Axis and Allies War at Sea minis.
