I can understand the original, but this one? Is there any indication it's set in the prehistoric valleys of Carcassonne?

Of course, a bit more atmosphere using the mini Guillotine from Archie McPhee http://www.mcphee.com/bigindex/current/10471.html

Not a particularly good game and it rips off Condottiere, but is quite good fun to play, if that makes sense. The bits are great: lots of heraldry.???

Weakly-themed - it's an abstract, after all.

Nifty little game, though. I think it's interesting that, like another game using the setting of the French Revolution, this one also has three separate ending conditions: one "regular" ending and two that have to be defended against if you're trying to reach the "regular" ending. I wonder if Martin Wallace was thinking of Knizia's Revolution when he designed Liberte?

The Tricolore on the cobblestoned streetcorners of 1789 Paris...I disagree that it is weakly themed. Perhaps the translation needs to be stronger.

The Royalist player sets the buildings in place and the Jacobite player starts the revolution. The army and the people vie to surround Versailles and the Bastille while Notre Dame is neutral with a penalty for fighting near sactuary. If the flag is raised, the forces rally, and the corner taken. Yet if control of that intersection and the flag are lost to forces of the opposition, so is the game. Even if the city is under control, the leader must appear at the barricades and if Marianne is captured, the King wins, and vis versa.

It could have been set in 1968, the French are aways revolting. ;)

Reportedly "the worst game FGU ever produced" - but since that view comes from diehard grognards, it may just be fluffy. :) This was still available from FGU until their website closed up abruptly a few months ago.

Since I own and have played the game I would humbly disagree. This game although pretty cheaply made is still fun. Getting the right combination of support in order to take control of the REVOLUTION is not that easy.

At least one more Caesar title - TSR's Julius Caesar, which covers the Gallic Wars at a strategic level.
