NOTICE: Due to certain upcoming life circumstances (a baby and grad school) the header for this list will no longer be updated. I have decided to close the list since it is difficult to keep up to date without a running header. For current 2013 Kickstarter Projects please see 2013 Kickstarter Boardgame Projects. Thanks!

[NOTE: This list is for Kickstarter projects only. Please do not post items from other crowdfunding websites here, rather visit the links at the bottom of the header. Thank you]

Over the last year I've noticed several different games by small publishers use Kickstarter as a way to gauge interest and generate pre-order sales. It seems like a great way for small publishers to generate interest and sales.

I am relatively new to Kickstarter and found their search capacity for projects rather frustrating. I'm never sure if I am missing projects I might be interested in or not.

Please list here any Kickstarter projects you come across that are board games or at least board game related. This is intended to help raise awareness to the BGG community about these projects and give us a chance to jump on if we are interested.

EDIT: In order to make this list more useful to people I am asking that if you list an item, when the funding ends please update the entry to reflect whether or not the funding was achieved.

Pizza Theory - The Pizza Toppings Game

Link = http://kck.st/rOIKP5

1 copy of the game = $22.

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $4,175 IS PLEDGED BY FRIDAY DEC 30, 2:29PM EST.

In Pizza Theory you and your friends engage in a toppings fracas to determine whose toppings will reign supreme! Hold the anchovies!!!

Create a pizza with your color toppings. Then cut it into slices dominated by your ingredients. Of course your opponents are trying to do the same thing.

Choosing the right places to slice will get you victory and all the pizza you can eat, while making the wrong choices will cost you the win and leave you hungering for more. Only one player can create the perfect pizza. The others must figure out where their theory went wrong.

It may be as "easy as pi" to play, but can YOU come out on top?

Wreck Age: A far-future dystopian post-exodus adventure!

Link = http://kck.st/uc15Kt

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $5,000 IS PLEDGED BY WEDNESDAY DEC 28, 11:50PM EST.

Wreck Age is an open-ended Role Playing Game and Tabletop skirmish game set on 25th century Earth.

We've been working in (semi) secret for the past year and a half, creating hundreds of pages of background, artwork, a dozen different factions, and locations throughout North America and the world.

We've also spent countless hours creating a simple yet detailed gaming system, based off of years of experience playing tabletop war-games in both a casual and tournament setting. This system will integrate seamlessly with the RPG, so there will be no learning curve to switch between the two. In effect they are the same game, with slightly different objectives; one, more focused on storytelling, the other more focused on scenarios and tactics, and strategy.

Shadowrift

Link = http://kck.st/tA9z99

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $10,000 IS PLEDGED BY SATURDAY DEC 3, 10:16AM EST.

Shadowrift started as a project to fix the problems with several games I'd played by putting the best parts of them together. Arkham Horror had cooperative elements, but was horribly complex and took forever and a day to play. Dominion had an innovative, brilliant mechanic, but the entire game was that one mechanic and there was little or no player interaction - just a race. Thunderstone and Ascension, fantasy games with the slaying of monsters, went too far one way or the other with their combat; Thunderstone used too many variables and muddled the issue, while Ascension essentially had you buying monsters using "fight money." And neither had a strong sense of the player character (a strength of Arkham Horror), which seemed like a huge failing for a fantasy adventure.

But I wouldn't have bothered trying to publish Shadowrift if it were just "like this or that product but a little better." After all, the companies that made those products can publish improvements over time. No, as a fully cooperative deckbuilding game Shadowrift has evolved into a game that does things no other deckbuilder does. Players buy cards that grant each other resources and power to achieve their goals. Players also construct their identity as an adventurer over the course of the game - from the sly rogue to the wild barbarian - turning the deckbuilding experience into one that can include actual roleplaying elements.

Shadowrift includes a level of terror and threat that is comparable to other cooperative games - games like Pandemic, Ghost Stories, or Arkham Horror. Tension mounts as monsters tear through town and corpses start piling up. Players bite their lip, turning over the town cards to see if they've survived another round, and breathe a sigh of relief or cry out their despair at the result.

The greatest strength of the deckbuilder genre is replay value, and Shadowrift is no exception there. There are more than seven hundred thousand ways to play, and any one of those scenarios can play out entirely different depending on when certain monsters arrive and what skills the heroes learn first.

Faggles to Faggles

Link = http://kck.st/rppFzL

Game = $50

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $3,500 IS PLEDGED BY MONDAY JAN 2, 10:36PM EST.

How outrageous are you? No, really.

We don't mean "I liked Van Wilder." We're thinking, "I find Shia LeBeouf's taint fair game for comedy."

If the latter applies to you, you'll love Faggles to Faggles -- an outrageous, queered-up party game for you to enjoy with the girls. In this game of judging (hey, it's what gays do best), each card is more outrageous than the next.

Here's the deal: grab three friends or more and then draw a card with an adjective on it. The rest of the players, who hold cards with nouns on them, must play the card they think you would choose for that adjective. So, if you drew the card “racist” would you pick “the French,” “Miss Piggy” or “rainbows?”

Each card has a unique, hilarious definition that will keep you in stitches time and time again. A small investment of fifty bucks will get you hours and hours and hours and hours of entertainment. Believe us, we've played this game with dozens of people for hundreds of hours and it never gets old.

Necropoly (Game of the Dead)

Link = http://kck.st/tt4ufR

Game = $100

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $10,000 IS PLEDGED BY SATURDAY DEC 31, 4:14PM EST.

NECROPOLY is a spin on Monopoly but the differences are a dead giveaway. Two to six players make their way around the board beginning at Death and navigating through cemeteries and pitfalls trying to build up their stash of personal burial plots and even adding tombstones and mausoleums so they can charge more for other players standing on their grave. The “Fate” and “Communal Coffin” cards are hysterical. But beware the devil in one corner; he will send you straight to the fire.
Players advance with the roll of the black dice, paying bones to the bone collector or taking in bones for fees, and the game ends when one player is the last to have bones.

Rise!

Link = http://kck.st/vLx98p

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $15,000 IS PLEDGED BY SATURDAY DEC 31, 1:27PM EST.

In Rise! you must build three towers before your opponent beats you in a battle to rise to the top! By cleverly surrounding an empty space with six workers you will break new ground and lay the foundation on a path to victory. Take caution though, if you lose sight of your opponent’s plans your towers may be left in the dust!

In this simple yet strategic game for the whole family, two players battle it out by both adding to the ever changing board and placing their workers strategically to watch their towers Rise! While seemingly simple the entire game can change with the placement of a tile or a fiendish movement with a worker. What actions will you take in a game where winners must balance their construction with the destruction of their opponent?

Schlock Mercenary is being published by Living Worlds Games, LLC. We brought you 1955:The War of Espionage earlier this year and now we are bringing you a top down shooter set in the Schlock Mercenary webcomic science fiction universe.

This project will only be funded if at least $25,000 is pledged by Sunday Dec 18, 11:59pm CST.

This is a large game with hundreds of tokens, a ton of scenarios and all original artwork by Howard Tayler. Stop on by and check out the video plus the rulebook that is linked on the KickStarter main page.

Exile Sun

Link = http://kck.st/ruDmN5

THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $18,000 IS PLEDGED BY FRIDAY DEC 30, 9:30PM EST.

Far off and forgotten, orbiting the Exile star, a fragmented group of Colonial powers are struggling to exist in the harsh environment of their foreign home. Having been unexpectedly cut off from contact with Earth over two hundred years ago, the process of gaining some economic recovery has been slow and arduous. With dissention rising among the populace, these leaders must compete to gain military, economic and technological advantages over each other in a race to lead the united colonies in a mission to contact Earth. Time is short.

While an outright planetary assault could express dominance in military power, perhaps luring out and destroying an opposing Flagship or Construction Shipyard can have the same effect using fewer resources. Or hit and run assaults with fleets of strike craft can be equally effective. But be warned, leaders dare not neglect their own colony resources, or their supporters will lose faith in them and they’ll fall quickly out of the race.
