After the highly succesfull (?), beloved (??) and acclamed (???) geeklist about upcoming card games for 2010 it is time to create the new one for 2011.

Again, I'll list - and I'd like you to list - the upcoming card games, expansions for card games, promos for card games and whatever is related to card games which is being published in 2011.

Thanks a lot for any contribution.

Espionage seems a very appreciated theme for card games, judging by the success of game like CIA VS KGB and others.

This one will be released at GenCon 2011.

From the game page:
"Two players take on the role of Master Spies as they attempt to use their country's resources to sway the people of six countries into joining their faction.

The two players draw from a communal deck to build their hands in an attempt to create card combinations that will allow the shifting of allegiance in six different countries. Every card may be used offensively, defensively or for a special effect. Careful planning and maneuvering of their master spy pawn results in increased effectiveness of the cards or the ability to trigger an offensive action that catches the opponent off guard.

A game takes between 15 and 30 minutes for experienced players and between 30 and 45 minutes for inexperienced players. The game is marketed for ages 14 and up.

1955: The War of Espionage is to be released at GenCon 2011 by APE Games and Living Worlds Games."

Deck building game from the designer of Grimoire and Greedy Kingdoms.

From the game page:
"You are a captain heading a crew of pirates. At first, it is just a small band, but you will gradually expand it into a large company. The winner of the game is the one who has the most victory points when the game ends.

The system is like the system of Dominion. It's called "Deck building".

The object is a player collect the VP card by using a crew card, item card and a treasure card.
This cards are able to use any own turn. And the VP card is added as the more point card.

The difference of Dominion is a player use a markers and resource chips.
The player put Markers on island boards.

There are several "quests" on each island, and players put their markers on them. A quest is completed each time it has as many markers as it requires. When a quest is completed, the player who has his markers on it uses its effect."

mbmbmbmbmb
Weird card game about rivers and afluentes, available in a very small print run.

From the game page:
"Afluentes is a card game about creating water streams from the underground to the sea within four steps/cards:
1- Groundwater;
2- water spring;
3- River;
4-Sea.

It would be that simple, if not for the environmental problem (red) cards, put by other players in our game, that stop the water flowing until they are solved, by laying a solution (green) cards with the right number over it.

Each player have their own deck of forty cards.
Every turn, a player uses five from a hand of eight cards,
and chooses one of four actions to help him:
"Documentary", a player may begin a water stream using a water card number 2 or 3;
"At Work", a player may draw one extra card;
"Reforestation", a player may draw one discarded card;
"Wastage", a player makes everybody discard one to three cards, as he wishes.

Afluentes means tributary rivers in portuguese, so when a player connects two water streams its points count double.

Afluentes is a fast and light weight card game.

It is a small print game available from Bico de Lacre, a publisher from Brazil."

A card game based on the popular videogame.

With a little bit of dexterity in it...

From the game page:
"The survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Be the first person to strategically topple the structure cards by rolling the right bird on the die. Then knock out the pigs with the flick of a die to win in this quick-play game based on the super popular phone app. Includes Angry Birds playing cards and Dice. For 2 to 5 players.

Angry Birds: The Card Game is similar to the popular video game currently available on a multitude of platforms. Players will be using their bird cards to try and knock out the object cards and save the eggs. After the object cards are gone, the first player to knock over the golden eggs with the die wins!"

No pictures yet for this card-game created in 2008 and that will be at last published in 2011.

From the game page:
"You want to win a contest called "Create the most beautiful aquarium"
To achieve this, players try to get the best fish & plants to fill their aquarium. Money is your main problem as you don't only need money to buy fish and plants but you also have to buy food for your fishes to let them survive the game.

Your opponents will interfere with your plans by altering the offer of fishes for sale and also with the price you have to pay for it. On the other hand they can choose to give you a favour so that they collect a bonus themselves.

Give your opponents a little help at the right moment, but not too much ...
above all try to interfere with their plans on the most critical moments...

...here fishy, fishy, fishy..."

New CCG being published in december 2011.

Currently on KickStarter (with a quite high funding requirement, if you ask me... 17.000$ is quite a bit of money).

From the game page:
"Time Wars CCG is a Collectible Card Game designed for 2 or more players. Yes, this means you can play with as many players as you would like! That in mind, a 10 player game may get messy, but would probably be loads of fun!!! Each player fights one another for control of time and ultimately the ability to change the future.

Each player starts with a 62 card deck that is comprised of the following:

60 In Game Cards
1 Time Traveler
1 Era (Every Time Traveler has Era they are from)

In addition, there are also 2 Eras that are a part of every game, the future and the past.

The goal of every game is to defeat your opponents in one of the following two ways:

Bring their life total to ZERO.
Eliminate their deck. If they attempt to draw a card but can't, they lose."

Long story short:
- One of the very first Dominion clones
- Published in very small amounts in 2009
- Grabbed by Rio Grande Games for a wide release in 2010
- Delayed to 2011 for various reasons, will include the expansion

So, the new edition is now due to sometimes in 2011, with revised artwork and so on.
More information about the delay here.

Regarding the game itself, this is the description from the game page here on BGG:
"In the year 2097, the entire Earth was enveloped in a cataclysmic shift in climate, plunging the globe into another ice age. Nearly 90% of the world’s population was eliminated, driving the survivors to band together into loose communities and tribes.

You are the leader of a small tribe of survivors. Resources, tools, medicine, and mercenaries are all in scarce supply. You and your tribe are pitted against up to four other tribes in a fight for survival. Build up your tribe, skirmish against other players head-to-head, or even bluff your way to victory.

The player with the largest tribe at the end of the game is declared the winner!"

From the game page:
"This adventure card game is based on a popular Polish MMORPG 'Arena Albionu' (The Arena of Albion). You take the roles of brave warriors and fight for your life against the opponents. The objective of the game is to develop your character, earn experience and finally become the King of Albion. In order to do this, you equip your character with various weapons, explore loactions (represented by special cards) and collect resources (represented by tokens). You may also play event cards and send enemies against your opponents. After collecting a number of Experience Points, you may spend them to advance your character, becoming more powerful.

There is one major rule - to survive. Do not count on a warm welcome. Your character will get beaten and robbed many times. Everyone waits for your mistake, and a thug hunting for people like you hides in dark backstreets. But you can earn respect and eternal fame if you do not break down, but grin and bear the adversities of fate. However, if you only complain, you will earn nothing more than scorn and oblivion. Are you prepared for such a tough life? If so - enter bravely the gates of Albion, if not - leave now and come back when you are ready!

The game was created for Proglobal - an IT company best known for a MMORPG 'Arena Albionu', a Polish browser-game which has been functioning online for over 7 years now and has about 650 000 registered players' accounts. The game is defined by two main elements - the technical side and the players who create an Internet community. The plot of the game takes place in a medieval reality. The weapons of ancient knights and warriors from various cultures are graphically presented.

The game contains the following components:
- 110 cards
- 56 tokens
- the rulebook"

Already listed in the 2010 geeklist, The ARES Project shifted to 2011.

From the game page:
"In The Ares Project, 2-4 players are competing to see which of their factions will lead mankind into the future. Each faction has its own deck of cards, buildings, upgrades, attacks, special powers, and a screen behind which a player will play cards. Your opponents do not know what you are building. When a player lays down an attack card, he chooses an opponent, the players drop their screens, and they battle for control of the Frontier, i.e. the center of the table. Whoever controls the Frontier scores points and also has the ability to attack player bases directly. Eliminate all of your opponents to win instantly, or have the most points when the game ends."

Someone is already labeling it "the new Glory To Rome".

New edition of a 2010 card game which includes elements of tile-laying and variable player powers.

From the game page:
"Create a thriving barony by claiming territory and raising buildings. Use actions to gather resources and knights to protect your realm, while avoiding the watchful eyes of the king and pope. Make your barony worthy of establishing the realm’s first cathedral!

Barons is a card game which uses four different decks representing different types of land: mines, rivers, forests and pastures. Each deck contains cards representing actions, buildings (including 5 church/cathedral cards), and 9 knights.

The cards have three functions: they can either be used face up as an action, knight or building; face down as land or discarded as money to pay for other cards.

Each player starts the game with a castle card surrounded by one land card of each type. On your turn, you play cards to build your barony and acquire resources, by going through three phases in order.

Play action and knight cards and use building abilities.
Add one land or one building to your barony.
Tax up to four adjacent lands in your barony to draw cards.
To win, you must first build a Church and then a Cathedral in your barony. The game ends immediately when someone builds a Cathedral."

This one looks AWESOME!
Gonna pnp that demo deck.

EDIT: I suck at embedding links.

From the game's BGG page:

"Support BattleCON on kickstarter, and help make this game a reality: Our Kickstarter Page
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/level99games/battlecon-...

From the publisher's website:

"BattleCON is a fast-paced head to head card game for 2 players, based loosely around the mechanics and tactics present in 2D fighting games. In BattleCON, two to four players choose characters with unique abilities and powers to test against one another in a battle of tactics, strategy, and intuition."

BattleCON forms attacks by combining a character's unique styles with a set of generic bases, which all characters share. Because of this system of combined attacks, every fighter plays differently, yet all share a similar metagame which makes picking up and playing new characters easy. In addition, each character has a unique special power which gives them additional strategic options.

A free print-and-play version of the game can be downloaded on the publisher's website (see links below). Print publication is being planned for late in 2011."

EDIT: PROJECT FUNDED, A WINNER IS YOU!

After being delayed for something like two years now, the mainstream edition of Scripts & Scribes is finally about to be printed and it will be available in the first months of 2011.

It is one of the games in my most-wanted list, so I can't wait to grab it. Too bad pre-orders are not available to Italy. Boooh!

By the way, this is the topic related to the preorders, while this is the description from the game page:

"You are an abbot of a medieval monastery competing with other abbots to amass the greatest library of sacred books. To do so, you need to have both the workers and resources to run a well-functioning scriptorium. To acquire workers and resources, you use a limited supply of donated gold. In addition, you must be on good terms with the powerful bishop, who can help you in your quest.

OUTLINE OF GAME PLAY
The object of the game is to score the most Victory Points. You win Victory Points by winning any of the 5 categories: Illuminators, Scribes, Manuscripts, Scrolls, and Supplies. You win a category by having the highest total number of workers (Scribes, Illuminators) or resources (Manuscripts, Scrolls, Supplies) in that category. This is determined by the numbers in the upper left corner on the cards. At the start of the game, each category is worth 3 Victory Points. As the game progresses, the values on the Value Board will change and some categories will become worth more or less Victory Points than others. The game is divided into 2 stages: a Donation stage and an Auction stage. During the Donation stage, players acquire free cards according to an established plan. In the Auction stage, players purchase cards in auction rounds. After the two stages, winners of each category are determined and Victory Points awarded. The player with the most Victory Points wins."

Re-print of one of the most appreciated games by James Ernest.

Brainstorming and marketing at their hightest level here.

Reprint by Funforge.

From the game page:
"Designer James Ernest released The Big Idea through his own Cheapass Games in 2000, with the game being a hybrid of party game and light strategy game. In that design, players would create crazy inventions from the pairing of an adjective and noun card in their hands, simultaneously choose one invention (other than their own) to invest in, pay to invest in other inventions (whether newly created that round or an earlier creation), then roll a die for each investment to see whether it pays off and if so by how much. The player who collected the most money won.

For the 2011 edition of The Big Idea from French publisher Funforge, Ernest and Funforge's Philippe Nouhra have stripped out everything related to earning money to transform the design into a true party game. Players still have a hand of adjective and noun cards and pair one of each together to create a fancy invention. They then take turns pitching their ideas to everyone in the game, lobbying players as if they were in front of a crowd of venture capitalists. Players then secretly vote on which idea they feel should be rewarded, placing a reward card face down in front of the chosen invention and blank cards in front of all other inventions. The player who collects the most rewards wins the round.

Unlike the Cheapass titles of yore, Funforge's The Big Idea will include high-quality, full-color illustrated cards packaged in a nice box."

From the game page:

The once quiet small town of Blackwood has become a battleground. A coven of vampires has crept in under the cover of darkness to drain the very life from its helpless citizens. As powerful as these creatures of legend are, they do not prowl the streets unchallenged. A team of skilled vampire hunters with an arsenal of modern weapons has tracked these bloodsuckers down and the battle for the soul of Blackwood is about to begin.

Play as either vampire or hunter, using Attack cards to battle for the citizens of Blackwood, Impact cards to enhance your powers, and deadly Strike cards to destroy your opponent. Unleash powerful combos and use Blood or Adrenaline as you fight, alone or with a teammate, through both night and day. Win battles to recruit the innocent bystanders at the Nightclub, Church, Graveyard, Police Station, and Hospital. Claim the most locations to win control of the town.

Save the town of Blackwood, or drain it dry.
The choice is yours.

Fantasy card game + dice.

By Miles Ratcliffe, also author of the upcoming (and interesting) Medieval Mastery.

From the game page:
"Enter a new world where the five elements, of aether, fire, air, earth and water, have taken hold and natural disasters ravage the land.

Act as a god-like elemental, of one of the five elements, as you take command of your own nation of worshipers and inflict devastating disasters on your opponents.

Manipulate your nation’s soldiers, clerics, citizens and shamans to overcome threats that you and your nation are facing and, ultimately, brave the elements!"

Interesting card-game about robot designing.

Getting a limited february self-produced release.

From the game page:
"You are a young apprentice engineer, working for the most prestigious robotics company, Capek. To end your first year, you are given the task of building your own robot. This is what you’ve been working towards all year. All the long days spent repairing old service bots will finally pay off. Each year only one apprentice is accepted to carry on their studies at Capek, and work alongside the industry greats. Now, this is interesting.

- Based on The Wizard of OZ
- 2 to 10 players

Too bad is collectible. I'd rather buy a "living card game"...

From the game page:
" Over 100 years ago L. Frank Baum introduced the world to the wondrous Land of Oz. Now, experience these familiar characters, fantastic locations, and disturbing creatures as never before imagined.

OZ Collectible Card Game utilizes an innovative new game system we call Storyline that adds strategy to your challenging and fun adventures through Oz."

Interesting card game about an amusement park.

From the game page:
"Think Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, carousels, flying swings, and bumper cars! Open your Carnival for business before the other carnies do by building four of the five available rides along your Midway. Then cue the Carnival music and watch the crowd rush in!

Carnival is a card game of set collection for 2-4 players, ages 12+, that utilizes dice to determine actions. Each turn, a player rolls three dice and chooses two of them to perform actions which can allow them to gain and discard cards from their hand and/or Midway. Each player also has three tickets that may be discarded to affect the dice rolls or block other players' actions."
