Quite a few companies seems to be having success with republishing out of print games.

But there are still quite a few great games screaming for a reprint (preferably in English).

What games to you wish to see reprinted/republished?
Feel free to add to the list.

I have no idea how this has not been reprinted yet. I would love to ask Jay if there is a reason that this has dropped of the face of the earth, but I can tell you that there is a waiting list at my FLGS for when this gets another go.

Franz Benno-Delonge's passing should have had nothing to do with the rights on this one as some of his other hits (TransAmerica/Container) have been reprinted and even transferred distributors (TA/TE from RioGrande to Winsome).

Great pieces with some of the best coin money in any game.

Tried to pick this up at a convention auction a few months ago, but I dropped out at $85. Strangely, the same game sold at the same auction for $15 a few years ago.

what makes a game worth $85 is two people willing to pay $80 at the same auction.

A friend of mine recently acquired a copy of this (a DIY someone made, beautiful job though!) in a trade. We broke it out one afternoon for a 4 player game and none of us were impressed. It was OK, but nothing I would request to play. Maybe we were playing it wrong or we need to give it more chances...in any case after MoV we played Ad Astra for the first time and we all liked it much better. He ended up trading MoV away about a week ago.

I was at a convention recently and was told by one of the publishers there that they were in negotiations for the rights and were planning on a reprint. No time frame was given but it sounded like it was quite early in the process.

Yay!

If so, they should seriously look into acquiring the rights to Dathkadan's art.

Yeah, that pretty much squares with what I've heard previously. A somewhat unreasonable idea of the games' value in today's market. It's his right of course, they're his "babies." Hopefully his heirs will be able to make a more impartial and informed decision. IMHO, Thompson is one of the greats of game design. It would be a shame to have his wonderfully unique designs fade into obscurity.

The good news is you can still find reasonably priced copies of most of the Metagaming catalog (Melee/Wizard and OGRE excepted) on eBay.

I guess Steve Jackson was involved in a lot if not most of the better Metagaming games so he probably does have legal "standing." OTOH, I really hope he's not doing it for the games with which he doesn't have standing.

Nope. He's stuck his nose out beyond stuff he was involved in... but he lacks standing on that, too. His work for Metagaming was mostly work for hire, not games sold to metagaming. (Stuff sold, thanks to recent US Copyright law changes, reverts in 25 years to mutual rights now, while work for hire does not.)

He's also issued takedown notices (pre-DMCA) for games he's been totally uninvolved with... like Marvel Super Heroes. ( http://ClassicMarvelForever.com is licensed by WOTC... but that didn't stop evil stevie from trying to have it shut down. Twice.)

You can get used copies of that one dirt cheap in Germany, so even factoring the delivery in, you shouldn't come out paying much more than for a shrink-wrapped reprint.

This game in new or like new condition costs about 1 EUR or little more on German Ebay, the expansion is clearly more expensive.
Usually you can buy all Game of the year winners (Spiel des Jahres) very cheaply on German Ebay, even new ones, because they are being bought and given away as gifts very often and many recipients are not interested in them in the end.

This is a pretty good game and certainly deserving of a reprint. I suspect the plastic bits might not make the transition though (similar to the new Diplomacy).

I think I'd honestly rather have wooden boats, myself. But even cardboard ones would work fine. Long-tent profile views, with off-map tracking using two circular wood bits would be workable. I personally find the paddle-wheel on-piece tracking a bit of a pain.

I have had mine up for trade since I got it, with no offers.

I bought a sealed copy from the BGG Marketplace about a year ago for $50 and am really glad I did. It's been well-received in our group because besides being a lot of fun, it plays very quickly, and can easily be adjusted to play even quicker by simply reducing the winning VP total. So it's perfect for nights the group wants to play two games.

The prices for sealed copies on the BGG Marketplace seem to be anywhere from $60-90 USD now, and used ones are selling for $50. I suggest you put it on the Marketplace if you really want to get rid of it -- not sure if a lot of others are like me, but I would never trade for a game, because that means I have to give one up! cool I'm just saying that just because you've had no offers for trade doesn't mean there is no interest in Nexus Ops...

This was easy to find for a very good price in Australia until MilSims ran out of copies earlier this year. There are still a few new copies that turn up on eBay every now and then, and will only fetch somewhere between $10-$20 Australian.

I've got a shrink-wrapped copy sitting in my cupboard waiting for a trade offer.

I wouldn't push for a reprint. Judging by the Acquire and Betrayal at House on the Hill reprints the component quality would be terrible.

Not too sure how many Knizia games are OOP, but I'm surprised this desperately-in-need-of-a-reprint game has been out of print for awhile. Considering it was printed last by Mayfair, you would think somebody would be on top of this.

With the connecting lines in white or red, for me the game drags in the harbour defensive fire. I wish there would be a quick option where one could skip that part.

Just to clarify this statement, no edition of the game (1-3) includes etcetera expansion (formerly Planes & Trains). The 100 dollars was just for the base game.

The only listing I've seen was a retailer with them bundled for $115 on closeout.

IMO this is one of the most underrated, ahead-of-its-time designs of all time.

Even with a mere graphic upgrade, it could be marketed today as the "euro-style" modern naval wargame.

In accord with Hugh's suggestion, with some reference material such as "Combat Fleets of the World," "Jane's" or even "Harpoon" reference data, real-world classes can easily be represented using game weapons/sensor symbology.

Well worth hunting down for anyone interested, and an excellent candidate for a new edition.

It's a game about exploring Africa, filling in a blank map as your explorers push into the unknown. It a game in which you have to keep track of water and food, factoring in the different carrying capacities of horses or camels. It's a game where you can get points for stumbling upon a unique flower or discovering a high peak. It's game where if you die, your discoveries are erased from the map: that never happened. It's a game in which you can find a lost tribe, make peaceful overtures, have your retinue be cut to pieces by spears, escape alone in a boat, drift helplessly down river, contract a fever, encounter another tribe, marry the chiefs daughter and return to civilization in triumph.

It is, as the rules say, "not a game that's designed to be won".

It is absolutely ridiculous and lots of fun.

A lot of people never got to play this game at its best as the AH version messed up the rules. The game at its best was the basic version but AH never provided rules to it in a digestible manner. What they did was develop an advanced version and at the end of the rules write 'to play the basic version take all these rules out' and then proceed to list a large list of rules to take out that was hard to set up as such. A reprint could really be something wonderful.
