Welcome everyone to the December 2010 Edition of the Geekgold for Game Lottery. Thanks Blott for the amazing Idea and thanks everyone who is with us so far. For the past 3 months, I had split the list between the doamins. Making one of Video Games, another for RPGs and another for Board Games. There were two reasons for it. One to remove a list where the most of the items would be board games from the front page of those other domains. Other to remove RPGs and Video Games from the BGG list for those that complained about their existance. This didn't work much as expect, because in the end those other list got so few traffic that putting an item there wasn't worth much. Therefore for this month I decided to again fold the lists together into one. This will continue to happen until a point were I think the other domains have grown in here enough that removing part of the noise will be better.

This list concerns Board Games, RPGs and Video Games.

These are the Rules

Who can participate?
Everyone can take part of the system, with the following exceptions: new users cannot list items and are limited, unless they are a patron

How to bid for an item?
If you see an item on this geeklist that you're interested in owning:
1. It couldn't be more simple. Just tip that entry 1 and you are entered to win that game.
2. Check the description to see if you are allowed more than one entry on the item, and if there are bonus for multiple geekgold bid.

How to put an item on the lottery?
If you have a game that you're willing to part with for a little geekgold:
1. Post it as an item on the list.
2. Include a full description of the edition that you have and its condition. Be very clear on conditions, marks and box
3. Specify if you will be limited in shipping options. If you ship internationally, if the shipping is on you, and if so how much.
4. Specify when your item will close for entries.
5. You can post Board Games, Video Games and RPGs and related items.
6. The item must be draw before 31st of December 2010
7. For this month, exceptionaly, the item must be draw after 14th of December 2010. The reasons is that I think I will have to change some coding to allow again for more than one type of item on the list and I want to have plenty of time for it.

Specific rules for types of item
1. For board games, contact me before adding homemade versions of non-Print and Play games.
2. For RPGs remember that the spirit of these lotteries is one of fairness. So, make sure that if you offer a PDF version of a given book, that you have the right to resell it, put on the item that it is indeed a PDF. Personal scans, illegal digital copies and xerox of books are not permitted.
3. For video games, no pirated or bootleg version is allowed. Remember that some online versions have pretty strict rules on what you can do with your copy. So when offering a game, make sure that you indeed can transfer the full ownership of it to the user. In case a new potential user would have some restriction with the new game, like not been allowed to access official online serves, add this information to the post.

What to do when the lottery ends?
1. When closed, draw a random name from those that have tipped your entry. If you allowed multiple entries remember to take it in consideration.
2. Contact that person and arrange shipment of the game.
3. Send them the game.
4. Edit your geeklist item on this list with a note saying that "THIS ITEM IS CLOSED!" and to put the avatar of the winner, use the code [ username=name_of_winner] (without the space) for that.
5. When an item is closed I will move it to the bottom of the list. Please don't delete them

How to find the winner?
Starting in November 2010, you must use the Copycat Awesome Tool to find the winner for your item. Later on this header you will find a link to the tool thread where you can get all the info on how to use it (it is pretty simple). Items appear on the tool the day they are inserted on the list, but the bonus and special drawings\conditions depends on me finalizing it. It usually takes about 4 days for the item to be corrected. And that's when it appears on the subscription list.

Can I tip back people who tipped me?

Yes, you can use the GeekGold any user tipped you to tip on one of his items for lottery, but with discretion. You are not allowed to enter in collusion with an user to circle tip each other to get your chances very high. Doing so will remove both from the lotteries and take the geekgold incurred during it. Simple getting a tip and tipping back is not a problem. If you realize that there is an item one user has that you really want, and he really wants one of yours. Propose a trade (users are encouraged to add, before listing, items they want to lottery off on their Trade list), and if it goes through you reimburse the geekgold of everyother participant.

If you suspect that something is wrong with any item on the lottery, please contact me by GeekMail explaining which behavior you saw that got you suspicious.

Concerning items that you published yourself

Regarding the current discussion that was held on the Geek forums about unauthorized promotional of items by publisher. After discussing the matter with Aldie, we come to the conclusion that most entries that were done in that regarding into the Games for GeekGold Lotteries were fine and did not violate the guidelines. In any case, I ask you to please contact me before posting any such item. And send me the wording you intend for the entry.

Additional rules and guidelines
When Blott created this list in September 2009, and when I took over in October 2009, neither of us had an idea it would become this big. And with bigger lists comes bigger responsibilities, and sometimes new rules must be put in place to help with the good flowing of the list. The rules on this section are meant to be guidelines to help we have a better environment. Some people did note about them on the banter thread, but I'm suffering with it to as I have to scan the list to check changes that can't be done automatically. So please, try to follow all of it.

1. Don't update more than once a day;
2. Editing for the sake of trying to attract people is bad behavior. Doing it everyday (countdown to draw) is even worst. When an entry is updated I go check it to see if I have to change anything on the tool entry for it, and when there are half the items with updates, that can be a bit difficult;
4.Posting on the Game Forums or on the General Gaming forums and GeekMailing users about the offers your put on the lotteries is considered spam and should not be done. We have a very high profile subscription thread on the GeekBay forums, which should take care of adding visibility. Rare will be the user that wants to take part but doesn't know already about it.

Special notes
Special Note #1: If you are giving an item, there is no guarantee for number of entrants. You must be prepared to give away your game even if you only receive a single geekgold entry. Do not enter a game unless you are prepared for that outcome!!

Special Note #2: If for any reason you are forced to withdraw a game you offered, you must refund all geekgold tipped to your entry.

THIS EXHIBIT IS CLOSED - DRAWING SOON

UndeadViking's Birthday month December blowout!

Hello to you all! I turn 39 years old on December 10th, and in my previous 38 trips around the sun, I was taught many things, and one of them is that while it is always awesome to get presents, it is more fun to give people things that they want!

So - at the end of this month, I shall draw one winner that will get a game off of their wishlist. Don't expect a $100 game, but something around $30-$60 should be expected. If you live in the US, this will most likely come from Thoughthammer or Boards and Bits, two reputable OLGS that have inexpensive flat rate shipping. If you live outside of the US, we will have to figure something out - but I will make sure you get something you want, somehow. Most likely, you will have to let me know of a FLGS near you and I can contact them to purchase the game for you, or something along those lines.

Now then, because it is my birthday month, I will also be putting together mystery boxes when I have some spare time, and picking winners at random intervals during the month. I don't know how many of these I will do, but I will be giving out at least a couple. Mystery boxes will contain at least one game - and I will try and make sure the winner of the mystery boxes get a game they will like.

I may also give away some GG if I get a wild hair up my bum at some point.

Other than that, let's do the nuts and bolts.

Drawing: Big prize at the end of the month - random drawings at indeterminate times as well
How do I enter: One GG will get you entered into this fantastic lottery
Bonuses: People seem to like the whole 5 gets you 7 entries and 10 gets you 15.
My love: Goes out to you all

Finally, I can neither confirm or deny that my daughter has been feverishly making paintings of ducks and snakes in preparation of including them within the rewards, but I would think it is a safe bet that if you win, you will be the owner of a rare, one of a kind work of art from my little valkyrie.

Lastly - this is probably the last giveaway I am going to do on these lotteries. It has been fun but it is more like work now. With the literally hundreds of edits and comments made in a matter of days, I can't keep up with these anymore. This is not a knock on the system or the people that are part of this wonderful little thing going on here, it is just not my thing anymore. I figured, why not go out with one big last hurrah and be done, so that's what I am doing.

Of course, if I see the Merchant of Venus PnP put up for auction again, all bets are off.

Blessings, respect, and love to all of you.

(Oh and thank you all for your well wishes of getting better from my illness - I appreciate it)

FIRST EDIT

I will be doing a drawing halfway through the month for a mystery box. However, this is going to be the worst mystery box of all time. I mean it. The games that will be included with this mystery box would be better suited in a blender, or holding up the short leg of your couch. That being said, the winner will have the choice of taking 200 geek gold instead of the box.

So, in summary:

I will draw a winner on the 16th, the winner will get to pick from -

1. The worst mystery box of all time
2. 200 Geek Gold

Good luck!

Sorry for the delay!

If he chooses the 200 GG the WORLD'S WORST MYSTERY BOX will be auctioned off at a later date this month.

Stay tuned for more ridiculous give aways before the grand prize.

Note: Winning something early does NOT disqualify you from the grand prize, but it will disqualify you from winning any of the weird side stuff I am giving away.

Also - I just used the simulate roll thingy with the tool for this win, I assume that is the protocol? I will use an actual roll for the grand prize of course.

CRAZY EDIT #2

OK in 24 hours I will be drawing for the WORST MYSTERY BOX OF ALL TIME or 200 GG.

If you win it, you will still be eligible for the grand prize.

I see I have at least one heavy hitter here throwing GG to the wind, but don't let that dissuade you! Or let it dissuade you! It makes little difference to me.

Merry day after Christmas to you all!

This is for an unpunched, unplayed copy of When Darkness Comes: The Most Dangerous Game. The shrink has been removed and the box shows a bit of storage wear (a few really minor bumps and scrapes), but is still in excellent condition.

Quick note: the back cover claims that it requires the base When Darkness Comes game.

1 gives you one entry, enter as much as you like.

I'll draw the winner whenever I get out of bed on the morning of the 27th, and ship it off some time that week.

And speaking of shipping, since it's pretty small I'll cover shipping to anywhere in the world, including Estonia.

This is the first time I will submit an item for this great geeklist. Please be patient as I'm on my Ls here

I notice that this game has attract attention and I have a spare new version gathering dust still in shrinkwrap. It is out of print now and very hard to find outside of Australia. I like because the content has high quality laser-cut pieces.

As this December is high intense family time and I'm planning a family holiday, I will do my best to draw a winner on December 30th. Please allow a margin error of 1 day.

Avalon Hill. It looks like the previous owner played it a lot, though he took good care of it. The box is somewhat worn. I have not inventoried the components -- there are a lot of them -- but they are all sorted into ziplock bags. Since these sorts of games had all the counters face up anyway, I am sure this game is playable.

This game was originally listed in my auction: Veterans Day Auction for Fisher Houses 2010, but it didn't sell. I will donate $0.08 to the Fisher Houses for every GG collected in the contest.

I am offering a copy of 1829, the train game that started the 18xx series.

Item:

This is my personal copy of 1829, bought back in the late 1970s or early 1980s. These sets are numbered: this is no 13009. I could not really get the family interested in playing it, though I did use it for at least one postal game. I suspect that it has been played face to face no more than three or four times. The rules (which, curiously, look like just a photocopy of a typewritten document) do not give a full contents list, so I have not done an exhaustive check of it. However, I found a manifest for the tiles, and they are all there (though one has a crease), and I have no reason to believe that anything is missing. It has sat on top of a bookcase for over 20 years. It thus has minor wear (see the pictures, which are of this copy), but nothing to worry about, and the plastic tray is complete and undamaged.

Entries:
1 = 1 entry
5 = 6 entries

Bonuses:
This is a fairly valuable game according to the market stats (around $80-100 last time I looked), so I want to make sure that I would get a sensible return on it. So I am going to be careful with bonuses, until I start to get a reasonable return. Initial bonuses will be postage only. I will, perhaps add other bonuses if the s raised starts to get silly.

So:

At 400 I will pay up to the first £5 of p&p (so free in the UK) ACHIEVED
At 700 I will pay up to the first £10 of p&p (so nearly free to Europe) ACHIEVED
At 1000 I will pay for shipping worldwide ACHIEVED No excuse not to bid now.

Shipping:

Postage is on you unless the bonuses have cut in
The game is a little over 1kg. Boxed, etc, for posting it will be nearer 2kg. Postage is thus likely to be around:

£4.50 parcel post in the UK
£12 to Europe (inc. Estonia)
£14 surface to the USA, Australasia, etc.

End date:
Unless I am unavoidably detained (it will be the festive season, and I do not even know where I will be then), I will do the drawing sometime on the evening of December 31st, UK time.

Edits
22 Dec. Well (at last) the first bit of free postage has been triggered. I confess to being disappointed that we have not even achieved what was indicated on the Tell us what to give away: A Games for Geekgold survey geeklist. I just hope that the other two 'big spenders' from that list have been waiting to pounce with big bids at the last minute. Oh, and don't forget the bonus that will be coming to those that are 2010 patrons. If you have savings for a rainy day, you can spend them now because they are about to be replenished ...

Will draw winner shortly...

... Drawn. We have a winner, see below...

Up for grabs:

Carcassonne: The Cult - This lottery is for just the 5 Cult tiles.

This small expansion contains 5 tiles, each showing a picture of a Cult with a "Pentagon" logo. Cults are comparable to Cloisters. When a Cloister and a Cult are adjacent, a challenge begins. The player who first encircles his tile gets 9 points, the other player gets nothing.

The Cult tiles were included in the Spielbox Magazine "Hans im Glück Almanach 2008".

The Almanach also included The New Huts expansion to Stone Age, which are not part of this lottery.

Excellent new condition, opened but never used. Color English instructions included.

For every 1 GG = 1 entry
For every 5 GG = 1 bonus entry

Sol's excellent tool will determine the winner.

Deadline for participation is December 28, 2010.

- Excuse me?
- Yes?
- What are you doing?
- Isn't it obvious? We are constructing!
- What are you building?
- Why, a temple of course. To celebrate our Goddess Earth!
- Goddess Earth?
- The creator of this beautiful planet home to all of us!
- Are you out of your mind?
- NO!
- You are building your temple next to OUR construction of an Abbey...
- So?
- You are pagans, and you are gluing yourselves next to our holy land intended to praise glory to the one true God. You are disrupting our already initiated construction!
- No, you are disrupting Earth with your presence!
- What?
- We will finish our temple before your monastery and we will claim spiritual patrimony over the entire area, overshadowing your presence.
- Unbelievable... We will race you and outpace you and outcast you and excommunicate you and...
- You better hurry old man, you're wasting time.
- Well, the race is on!
