I see a lot of strange user names here and some are quite obvious, so I though, why not tell people where did you get your user name.

Sorry, if this has done before.

If it is, then new users have a chance now to tell us again.

A slightly long tale on the origins of my nickname, but here goes. Back in the mid 90's I was in the USAF at the time and based up in New Jersey. Had a habit of oversleeping. The shop rule was that the last one in had to bring donuts, so due to my poor oversleeping habit I ended up regularly bringing in donuts, so they started calling me "Donut".

Not long afterwards we started to get into wargames (real ones where the military "LARP's" ) and I took a special liking to sneaking around rather than do the all out frontal assaults my cohorts did. So they started to call me "Stealth". One morning at PT (which I showed up in time for, I'll have you know) combined the two and began calling me StealthDonut. The name stuck and I've been using it ever since. Of very interesting note, you'd be surprised how often I can't use my nickname on certain websites because other people have it...it seems such a strange combination of words you'd think that wasn't possible.

Alas! My user name is one of the greater regrets I have in life. When I first stumbled upon this site I merely wanted to be able to look at the larger resolution size for the pictures and so I typed in the best thing my creative mind could muster at the moment: Jonathan68 (the 68 was my football number in high school). Little did I know I was on track to become fully immersed into geekdome and this amazing hoby. Had I known back then what I know now I would have come up with something cooler like: "ChinchilaSlayer", "Biscuits_of_mass_destruction", "BeanPoleofJustice", "EatsEverthing", or "Neville". All of these would have presented a a more formidable name that "Jonathan68." If I ever become popular on the Geek you think I want people saying "did you read that new thing from Jonathan68" heck no. I want them to say "did you see that friggen sweet thing "Almighty_Pancake_Lord" wrote.

Unfortunately my name has merely destined me to be a groupie in the background. A chrony who walks around with the big kid at school to feel important and tough, but inevitably will get beat up by the little girl at the monkey bars who fights for justice.

crycrycrycrycrycry

On a different note, I think this game was published around 9 months before I was born DunDunDunnnnnnnnn!!!! It seems I have a question to ask my mom.

I joined BGG in 2004 after my friends thought it would be fun to have our entire gaming group on here. I half heartedly joined "yet another message board" and decided early on that I didn't want to use the user name for every site I frequented. Being that I didn't think I would become hooked, and that I'd only be on for a few months at best... I used the name of a song I was listening to at the time. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds "Stagger Lee." Needless to say, it's a brutal and violent song full of swearing and jaw dropping bits about a murderer running around causing lots of trouble. I didn't think I'd be using the site that much so I didn't think it would matter if anyone knew the song. In fact it's not even one of my favorites by him, and I really don't even listen that much to the band any more.

But then as my gaming grew, and my connections in the industry grew... this site became absolutely nessessary as a tool. So here I am, and there you go! Look up the song at your own risk. It's pretty naughty.

Came up with my tag during my sophomore year in high school (2001). Xbox was just announced and I was buzzing over Halo. So I started joining up on Xbox fansites and needed something other than my old tag (Cookie Monster) to identify myself by.

Halo's protagonist is a "SPARTAN-II" commando, and he was issued MJOLNIR Mark V armor. So I took SPARTAN then added V + 1 to it (just in case there was a sequel where he got Mark VI armor), thus SPARTAN VI.

There are one or two impostors on the interwebs that use this tag, but 99% of SPARTAN VI's web presence is actually me. I made sure I was on XboxLive zero hour to register the tag; I've had it for over 7 years now.

I also use another name Talamair which is similar to a magician from a book that got me into reading called Searching for Dragons.

I love Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series of novels. Iorek Byrnison is the polar bear you see on the cover of this game. He is kinda my hero. Also, my Avatar is a painting from William Blake and Pullman incorporates Blake's philosophy on religion and humanism into these books. I highly recommend them to anyone.

In my college years of the early 1990's, through sheer weird chance, I fell into two separate but quite distinct groups of friends and acquaintances both obsessed to some degree or another with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I came to enjoy the music and the silly pantomime, but I never fell into the trap of taking the entire thing way too seriously. It's too long a story to get into, but the fallout was a bizarre saga of inter-group loves, lusts, intrigues, betrayals, early-20's drama, closeted bisexuality, and twisted relationships.

Anyway, if you know the movie, you know that its backbone is a satirical mishmosh of 1950's American horror and sci-fi movie homages. The theme song includes a reference to "Doctor X".

I grew up with those movies of the 1950's, along with Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits courtesy of my father (thanks WPIX!), and I still have a great soft spot for them. In my early days of using dial-in BBS', I used the handle "Sgt. Apone" or various takes on the rank of Sargeant if I couldn't use the entire name from Aliens. After some awful teenage BBS romantidrama of my own, I swore off networked computing for quite some time until Earthlink began a strong advertising push around 1996. I signed up, and for some time thereafter, I was either Emperor Palpatine or Sauron.

Those handles eventually got tired, and for reasons I really can't remember, I fell back on the campy sci-fi idea of "Doctor X," and from there I've used the name whenever I can.

Mine comes from a Reality TV show called SoccerGeeks F.C. that was aired on the TV Network SBS here in Australia. The show aired in the lead up to the 2006 World Cup and featured a string of Geeks and IQ Boffins who had not participated in sport since they were forced to back in high school.

They had to build physical fitness and learn the skills of the game with the end goal to play against an A-League team in the finale.

It was hilarious.

I then created a Guild here on BGG called SoccerGeeks F.C. as a place for football fans to discuss leagues and favourite teams from around the world. So it also acts as a promo tool - although you'd need to know where to look. The guild is a home away from home and our dedicated group of SoccerGeeks participate in all manner of banter and competitions such as World Cup Fantasy Comps and Fantasy Football Leagues.

EDIT - Now that I look at mine I think I got the two the wrong way around. Such is life.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/437

Finally as a Username it simply combines my two hobby loves...Soccer and games.

Mine comes from a nickname I picked up while backpacking in Thailand. I did something particularly stupid and my friend called me a "stupid goose". Well the daughter of the family who owned the place we were staying at heard this and asked what a "goose" was. She was young and attactive so my friends and I spent the rest of the day competing to come up with the best nicknames/stories/life trivia etc we could to maintain her attention. In the end I lost the attention battle but the nickname stuck. Funnily I then later married a girl who's nickname since childhood was "ducky" so we are now "goose n ducky" on our joint emails and the kids are our little chicks!

1968, year I was born

Ok, this explanation is better suited to the roleplaying site. Anyhow, Pimeson is a Dungeons and Dragons character. I played him for 4 years. He was a half elf thief and fighter. This was during high school. I got the name from the subatomic particle pi meson. There is also a mu meson, but I thought musmeson sounded like a little kid trying to say his first and last name.
"Hiw, mwy nme s mumseson," said the little boy.
The mother replied, "No your name is Mike Meson."

See? It could only be Pimeson.
