We have all seen the geeklist of the super-pimped games. They might have expertly painted minis or fancy wooden additions or even scratch redesigns. This is not that geeklist.

This geeklist is about the little things you did to make a game better. Making text a little more readable, swapping out pawns, or improving it in a very small - and perhaps easy - way.

Please add your own micro-pimps.

The stones in Mesopotamia look like white marble chips. To avoid dust and possible scratches, we used glass stones like in Pente or Mancala:

Easier to balance on top of the wooden pieces, too.

Do you have some of those lame old plastic poker chips sitting around from before you got a set of real chips?

Buy a can of gold spraypaint and silver spraypaint, and turn them into replacements for cardboard money! I've used this to flash up Runebound, Caylus Magna Carta and Witch's Brew. The chips I have even have that little crown symbol on them, making them look that much more fitting! This is a good choice for games that don't need different denominations, since you can keep them in the box rather than lugging around a case of heavy clay chips.

When I owned this game I used a textured metal tin from the special edition of Total Recall which depicts Mars to hold bits.

This isn't a very good pic. But the tin is just the circle at the top, round, sized just larger than a DVD.

I found a tiny easel at a Blick store (art supplies) for less than $2USD. It's just big enough to hold a Modern Art card for proper auction display, and it usually creates some ridiculous comments during auction time. Instant win.

I was given a geological sample from Michigan Tech which came with one of these beautiful acrylic display easels, and one day when I saw it I decided thatI it would be perfect to display the art in this game. It feels so like the way that MAM would do it.

You'd want two per player, or maybe just two to pass around like a current player marker.

I don't own this game, but played it at a friend's house. I'm surprising him with replacements for the black cubes marking each players rat infestation level with wooden mice from Feed the Kitty. Painted black, of course. The purple mice are no longer cute once they lose the purple!

I'd post a photo, if I could figure out how.

Edit: I own the game now. I now add little silver whiskers with a metallic pen. I've been making up a "batch" at a time when I find Feed the Kitty at a thrift store. Been using them as trade sweeteners.

I bought colored dice in the same colors as the colors of the pieces of the players. This way each player has his/her own dice, which speeds up the game because the one dice of the original game doesn't need to get passed around. I think the speedup due to having multiple dice slightly enhances this already awesome game! But playing with a single die has its own charms as well, so I play both variants, not just my pimped variant..

There are 4 markers to mark the 4 stations currently "in play". Each round the passenger (the large marker) travels to either a gold station (if a gold station is in play) and a white station, or just a white station (if no gold stations are in play). The markers for the stations don't indicate what type of station they are though, you have to refer back to the cards which requires leaving the cards somewhere near the board where they can be seen..

So I found some round gold stickers from my wife's scrapbooking collection and put a one on one end of each of the markers. Now you leave it white side up if its a white station and gold side up if its a gold station. This way the cards can be flipped, a marker placed, and the card can be set aside out of the way.

Whatever else you think about this game, it undeniably has a large number of bits. Keeping these in some sort of order helps the game flow, and our usual small plastic IKEA bowls simply weren't up to the task, both covering too large an area and being in insufficient quantity.

So Voila! The Laboramatic Bit Sorter, made from a bit of plywood and some balsa strips that had been lurking for some time. A simple gluing job, + varnishing, and the job was done.

Since folks keep bringing up LITKO, let's make sure you know how excellent their products are.

I have purchased their tokens, actually has custom-cut 12mm translucent squares cut to replace the horrible glass markers in Tahuantinsuyu, so that they'd not chip or break in half.

I also love the wound markers, transitional explosion markers, figure bases, and other neat-o stuff they produce. They're an Ameritrasher's wet dream.

And they'r aerospace folks, so how cool is that?

I recently picked this one up. I had it set up and was trying to go through the rules, but I was having a hard time remembering which pile of cards was for which runner.

So I grabbed some extra pawns from Flashpoint Fire Rescue (I had gotten the wooden firemen from my FLGS when I bought the game) to put in front of the cards so I could keep track of who was who. Not sure we will use them in an actual game...but we can now.

I couldn't settle at just that.

If you are subscribing to this list, you know people like us can't let things like this go...so I took some red felt...cut some triangles and glued them to the pawns.

I'm sure you craftier people could make them knot in the front, I just glued them.
