We have all seen the geeklist of the super-pimped games. They might have expertly painted minis or fancy wooden additions or even scratch redesigns. This is not that geeklist.

This geeklist is about the little things you did to make a game better. Making text a little more readable, swapping out pawns, or improving it in a very small - and perhaps easy - way.

Please add your own micro-pimps.

The miniatures in the game are really small and hard to tell apart when on the board. Someone had suggested gluing small plastic disks to their bases. I did this and it works great! Plus the figures are much more stable. Some were easy to knock over.

For those with space issues I present:

I later removed the liner (and adhesive using goo gone) and it fit even better. With the 1 cm cubes I can fit 12 of each suit as well as a small draw bag for them. The decktet is the "mini" version from the game crafter. For dice I use my phone, but I'd love to find some mini D10's to squeeze in there! (I already have a D6)

I made tuck boxes for my friend's copy of Diplomacy. He originally used letter envelopes, which looked terrible AND were labeled incorrectly!

Anyhow I Google'd each nation's flag, even if chronologically incorrect, then got creative with the font labels.

PDF and instructions are available in Diplomacy's file section.

Not sure if they qualify for this thread as I don't use them during game play, but man, do they make sorting and distributing so convenient that it's an essential VPG micro-pimp. The lids open separately allowing only the tokens I'd need to fall out.

Nothing says the shield wall is gone and "ATOMICS" like the Litko Nuke marker. I picked one up at Origins last year:

I also added some 'thopters to Carthag and Arrakeen so players remember the extra movement and spice collection.

Spice, just cheap tokens from a craft store:

I hate the crummy yellow discs that come with this game. The wood grain is visible through the yellow paint and that just doesn't say "gold" to me. My solution started with stepping out my front door and scooping up some gravel...

This could work in any number of games, of course.

Of course, in the long run, the bowls didn't go over too well with the players who are obsessed with organizing their bits...

I inked the edges of the counters. It gives them a nice finished look:

After that I decided it was far too fiddly constantly changing them for different values, so I now use a simple dice method to keep track of life points etc.:

Another fiddly component was the character tokens themselves. I ended up printing a set onto sticker paper, punching them out, and applying them to a set of travel backgammon counters:

Hell, it's a sickness for me. I pimp games I don't even own yet.

I saw Tom Vasel's review of this game and immediately thought of bits from overseas to pimp it.

They'd need to be dyed with a plastic dye, but that's no problem. I can get that for disc golf discs, since I like to pimp them too with stamps, etc.

I'm sick, sick, I tell you...

They're a little big but they barely fit on the square. They look more menacing than the cardboard stuff and their style looks like it fits with the actual game. The arms pivot making them a little bit poseable.

I like the bottom left one the best and then the Frankenstein.

I'd post a pic of them but my game is currently borrowed out.

I have pimped the tea-towel version of this game with wooden ships to replace the little chit/plastic ship standees.

I love wooden bits. I always prefer them over plastic. I did have to paint one, but that was no big deal.

I own the Fire & Axe version of this game, which I love. But I would choose to play with my tea-towel and wood version if I had my choice.

I also replaced the city markers with wooden houses...
