And we're off for another year of thrifty goodness.

And the week started off with a bang, with a HQ: nearly unpunched Return of the Witch Lord, a thrift list virgin Bushido, and a Supremacy. The first of two brand spanking new Settlers were found, as were two big-box Diplomacys and two Daytona 500s. WoW showed up in both "Adventure" and "the Boardgame" form, as did Power Grid,The Omega Virus, and Last Night on Earth. Chrisdr got a nice haul topped off with Mare Nostrum, and both Tikal and Cleopatra made appearances. On the wargame side, we had World in Flames, WWII Wings of War, the Battle for Hill 218, the French Dune, Samurai Swords, and Duel in the Dark. But you can't beat the classics, especially when they are massively overproduced, so hezkezl takes home the first statue of 2011 for his find of a big-box AH/Hasbro Acquire.

It was the week of Epic Duels and Carcassonnes. At least 4 Epic Duels in various stages of completeness were found, and page after page of finds had a Carcassonne on it, In addition, there were duplicates of Castle, and Formula De, with one of these including a track pack!!!

Another big box Acquire was found, and the Gamemaster series had some good representation as well, with a couple of Conquest of the Empires were found to go along with a Fortress America. Fireball Island and the Omega Virus kept up the ameritrash contribution, as did Buck Rodgers.

Euros weren't left out either with TtR, Caylus, Cleopatra, Thurn and Taxis, Settlers of the Stone Age, two Shrinkwrapped Gipfs, and my vote, Serenissima, all being picked up at various levels of thriftiness.

But in the end, and unpunched and unplayed Eon Cosmic, with bonus first expansion takes home the statue for FeelGoodND.

Ugh. 28 pages of Yatzee Jr. to wade through. But what a bunch of finds this week. Let's take a look:

Puerto Rico, Power Grid, AtWi60D, Civ, Titan, TtR:Europe and Marklin, Epic Duesl, big box Diplomacy, Fortress America x2, Conquest of the Empire x2, Samurai Swords, WoW:TBG, Pirate's Cove, Torres. I had more to laud, but NoScript wiped out my page when I allowed something on another tab, so I ain't gonna look everything up again

But in the end, it came down to a three-way battle for the statue between Jherek's find of Dungeonquest, with bonus expansion, and bonus missing bits from a previous find, (which should win just for repeat-find completionism), finke67's find of Extinction, (which should have won for rarity, and the actual winner, matthan, for his find of the Queen's Gambit, (because it's freaking The Queen's Gambit!!!)

What a crazy week.By crazy I mean things like a very high ceiling for what is considered thrifty. Catan 3D for $91 in beat up condition
FFGs new Civ for 50% off is still $30 laugh And crazy in an early unpunched Caesar at Alesia, Settlers of Zarahemla, and big-box HotW, all fairly uncommon finds, all duplicated later on in the list. And crazy in how much Heroscape is filtering down to the thrift nation. Wonderwitch and boscorooty had sweet HS hauls, and there were a ton of master set piles of tiles finds as well.

Other notable finds included Fireball Island, San Juan, 1960, Age of Renaissance, Citadels, and Ricochet Robots. And oeolycus had his greatest find evar! An unpunched Battle Hymn off of CL. But in the end, it came down to a three way battle between PapaBear73's Necromunda, LordHellfury's Cthulhu dice haul, and tacoma_boy's ludicrous CL haul. Too many games in too much gravy to overlook this haul. Betrayal at House on the Hill, two Descent expansions, two Talisman expansions, too much for Necromunda...

26 pages of finds, but not a ton of cream at the top. But WoW:TAG, Tammany Hall, Fortress America and A Game of Thrones got the week off to a good start. There was a Starfarers,a nd richtoosoon had a sweet haul of Catan goodness. And there was a ridiculous haul of Metagaming games. But in the end, FeelingGoodND's WotR find just edged out MrScottx's find of Samurai.

30 pages OMG...

And they started off with a bang with Loopin Louie at #1 and Dixit at #2. And then followed up quickly by Elasund, Epic Duels, and Dogfight. Or a great haul that had Ambush, Purple Heart and B-17. Quickly followed up by a find of Beyond Valor and Paratroopers. Newboy had a huge haul including Circus Maximus, Shark, Flat Top and Polarity.

Euros represented with finds of Ra, LC:TBG, Daytona 500, Dominion, Tamsk, big-box Acquire, Zooloretto, and my personal vote for Goa. Also, the last item on the list, a three pound Rise of Empires nearly made FotW history. Coolio made his personal find of the year, the First Citizen was heard lobbying for Supernova, Dark Shadows is an epic find IMO.

And then there was the battle of the monster games. Terrible Swift Sword versus The Longest Day. The sheer mercanary thrift gene present in JL's description of this purchase left me shuddering in awe.

But despite the remakes out there, and perhaps somewhat in relation to his other huge haul, newboy1721 once again takes home a FotW statue for his find of a $4 Merchant of Venus.

It was quite a week. many top rated games found this week. Like Caylus, Puerto Rico, Ingenious, Through The Desert, For Sale, Amun-Re and Dune. And haul, we got yer hauls. Our beloved king had a haul of DungeonQuest-y things, with Kings and Things as well, and there was an insane Heroscape haul, and lonnie pulled in a huge Traveller haul. Mississippi Queen, Dawn Under, Nexus Ops, and Monsterpocalypse were also pretty sweet finds. But in the end it came down to a showdown between idlemichael's Advanced Heroquest find, and this week's winner, our First Citizen, with his find of TI3. There just isn't anything quite like finding those FFG big boxes on the thrift shelves...

Oh my goodness, what a week.26 pages of crazy-good finds, scattered in amongst finds of Yatzee Jr., so let us begin...

North Africa Quad and three others starts the list off with a bang!, so to speak, and Ingenious and Dvonn add some abstract flair. The Big Boxes showed up with Diplomacy and Acquire, and another TI3!, (more on this to come). Broadsides and Boarding Parties, The Omega Virus, Advanced Heroquest, Fireball Island, and Skittle Poker. Not to be outshined by their big-box brethren, Freedom in the Galaxy and Dune showed up unpunched. There were some nice hauls, like beech's find of 2 Epic Duels and a Tycoon, or the ridiculous GMT haul from middleclassjoe. "Euros?" I hear you cry? How about Alhambra, Ave Ceasar, San Juan, Corsairs, Mississippi Queen, Bison!, TtR:E, and MiniFITS.

But, there's that TI3 sitting there, staring us in the face, with the possibility of being the first back-to-back game ever in FotW history. And yet, there is such an unamended rules violation going on here, TI3 fell just short, losing out to Meeples Schmeeples ridiculous find of both an unsprued Battlefleet Gothic and a Dark Tower, in the same place.

The Thrift will flow.

An amazing week of finds, and a week of returns, as Meat and a monkey return to the fold.

On to the finds!

How bout we get started with Ingenious? Or WS&IM, Or the first of the combo finds that dominated this week, Witch Lord/Kellar's Keep? Source of the Nile, Chaos in the Old World or Taluva? Aladdin's Dragons is pretty unusual, and C&O B&O is very, very, unusual. Frontline D-Day and Lock N'Load FH Vietnam is ridiculous. Merchant of Venus is awesome, and Puerto Rico, Rail Baron and Pirate's Cove aren't too shappby either. Or consider a big-box Battle Cry/Diplomacy combo. And Fortress America, Mutant Chronicles, Omega Viruses, and Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs are pretty solid as well from the "thematic" side. Meat's find of Cry Havoc and "bonus expansion" of Siege was crazy, as was tacoma_boy's Robo Rally/RR:Armed and Dangerous find. But in the end, wonderwitch bring it homw for her find of Space Hulk with Deathwing inside.

Another week of quality and quantity. Seems like no one found just one great game this week, but a whole bunch of them all at once.

Oh, there was Manhattan, a pair of Big box Acquires, (one a part of a haul), and Venture and Civ, (hauls), 2 LC:TBGs, (one a haul), a huge Descent haul, Herman and Caliburn's "Duesling Banjos"-esqe hauls, in cluding Mr. Jack, Anasazi, Paydirt, Tongiaki, eetc., etc. etc.

Robrob found the Starcraft: Typhoon Promotion, which is ridiculous.

But in the end, none could touch newboy's haul bookended with Magic Realm on one end and TtA on the other, just edging out the TtR:E found by newcomer Doomsayer...

Wow, what a week. You want to know what kind of a week it was? Page 25 of 25 had TtR, LotR, Murder City, Quarto, Heroscape, Fortress America, Tally Ho, Bermuda Triangle and Formula-1. And of course, there were all of "the usuals" like Civ and HeroQuest, Dune, and Dark Tower. A two-day haul of We The People and Dominion was pretty crazy, and WoW:TBG is a nice find aswell.

okaner had a great haul which included Source of the Nile and Flat Top, Machiavelli made a rare appearance, and an unpunched Midway was very nice. But in the end it came down to three finds, airship's "find" of a Monad butterbox on ebay, MikeTuna's unpunched Factory Fun or this week's winner, slow1234 and greg's combined find of this deduction game, over two different thrifts.

The THRIFT must flow...

What a week.

Here's a smattering of the finds found this week:

Nexus Ops, Dragon Delta, multiple Hera and Zeus' and Epic Duels, Notre Dame, Dominion x2, Corsairs, Duel of Ages, The Civil War, Niagara, Hellas, Terra Nova, Small World, Ticket To Ride, Hive, Gulo Gulo, multiple Rail Baron's, TI2 and Taluva, and Ken snagged a butterbox Venture, and the End of the Triumvirate was found at a garage sale.

I mean, are you kidding me with all that?

When all was said and done, however, it came down to a standoff between col_w's find of Against the Ogre Horde and newboy's ridiculous haul. While I chose Conflict of Heroes, you could have put Bowl Bound, Up Front, Civ, Pandemic, or War of the Ring on there.

Unfreakingbelievable...

Are you kidding me? It was the week of The Omega Virus. How many of these were found this week? For those of you playing the home game, stay tuned for the answer!

A very tough week for the judges, as all the major bases got hit. AT? Fortress AT, multiple Shogun's a CotEII, Descent, Big box Acquire and your usual HeroQuest's and a Blood Bowl 3rd Ed. Wargamers got theirs with Wilderness War, the underappreciated Thunder at the Crossroads, a Jutland, and the vintage Battle-Cry/Hit the Beach combo haul. Torres and Tikal and Mexica represented for Kramer, we got a Settler's of the Stone Age for Klaus, Around the World, Pirate's Cove, TtR and Cartagena for the Euro's...

So this week's statue ends up going to paperclip187 for the "Big box Euro-trash drunken boatracing extravaganza" that is Mississippi Queen find. In the words of the First Citizen, a "Beautiful find... "

"Six!" wow

An incredible week. wow

And the list gets off to a bang with a page one Advanced Heroquest, complete, and in decent shape. Can anything knock it off this lofty perch?
(Hint: no). But many fine games tried. An Advanced Civ and Civ find, a Tumblin Dice, only one Omega Virus this week, a Starfarers, a Ra, and a Skline 3000 all tried and failed.

Einroy had a nice AH haul, and HakFoo basically bought out a game store that was closing, MK-Ultra's unexpected expansion Civ Western Extension? Pirate's Cove or Andromeda?

And finally, one arose for the final challenge, tawnos76's find of Small World. Despite my having thrifted mine as well, thus having an affinity for the find, dungeonmattster's AHQ find triumphed in the end...

Nope

It was a week full of Carcassonne's, Citiadels, and crazy hauls. Let's look at some of the highlights. Shear Panic got things rolling, along with a Das Buch find in the housewares section, The Underwriter pulled in a huge haul of mostly SPI games, and how about only the second confirmed find of an unplayed Race for the Galaxy "in the wild". Broadsides & Boarding Parties and Fortress America represented for the Gamemaster series, and then there was a Dark Tower and an old Warhammer Quest. Java and Hera and Zues were sweet, as were the Cleopatra/Cosmic/LC:TBG haul, quickly followed by the Mystery Rummy/HOTW?Tumblin Dice/Starfarers/Zooloretto haul. and Helljin's Heeroscape Haul.

But in the end, it came down to MrScottx's find of the horror that is Arkham Horror just edging out clockwirk's find of a first edition Robo Rally.

A really top shelf week this week, with a ton of unusual finds. Let's take a look:

Another Advanced Heroquest! (though the judges are apparently cult of the newish as well), but how about Fearsome Floors, Jambo or Giganten? Very unusual.Ticket to Ride: Marklin isn't common, nor are Boomtown, Gangsters or a Valley Games unpunched Titan!

Doom, Supremacy, Java and Blood Bowl were found, as were the usual Epic Duels and a couple of Animal upon Animals.

But in the end, it came down to J.L.'s OMGWTF! find of Shogun (the Wallenstein-like one), versus Ken's $$$ find of Wacht am Rhein. Rarity and pure cash value carry this find to the top of the pile.

Carc: Ths City is a pretty rare find, as are Ambush: Purple Heart and the Settlers of Zarahemla. Multiple Hive's were found as well as lost cities, and of course we had the usual Epic Duels, Acquire's, etc. Rabid bear also snagged a Magic Realm, a Dune, and a Blue Max to go with his Ambush in one of many nice hauls for the week.

So it came down to a threeway battle between Starfarers, Ra, and this week's winner, Bakelite's find of the 'Gric.

It was the week of Unexpected Expansions®, to go along with the usual epic finds. Java, Tikal and Torres, Shadows over Camelot and Cleopatra, Dominion and Blue Moon City, Niagara and Aladdin's Dragons represented for the Eurofinds, and multiple Civs, Diplomacy big-box and Rail Baron represented for AH. Multiple Formula De's, (one with unexpected expansion) were found, as well as a Tumblin Dice and an Age of Conan! Reef Encounter and NHL scored highly in the "highly unusual find" category, as well as near winner, John Carter, Warlord of Mars.

But the meat of this week's list. was the plethora of Unexpected Expansions® that were round. An old school RoboRally with Radioactive inside? Or HeroQuest with both the Barbarians and the Elf quest packs? Certainly this week's winner in terms of pure cash value. And there were some haul-ish type finds, that nearly fit this mold as well, such as a huge 'Bag O' Heroscape' and a, "look what I just found on some weird website" Ambush+Expansions find.

But when it came down to the wire, Nyogtha's find of Aliens + Unexpected Expansion® was the top vote getter.

What a week. Lots of unusual finds this week, like multiple Mutant Chronicles and Dvonns. Or Cash and Guns, Settlers of Zarahamla, Traumfabrik, or Kahuna. Or a Kingmaker version I have never seen before. We had your typical, OMGISTHATAEURO finds like TtR:E, Arkham Horror, Forbidden Island and Dominion. From across the pond we had finds of Euphrat and Tigris and Flowerpower wow

And Machiavelli, big-box Acquire, Formula De, and Berserkely's Netrunner haul were all top shelf finds. But did someone say "haul"?

Because I'm pretty sure I heard Rabid Bear say "haul"

Divine Right, The Art of Siege and an unpunched War in the Pacific.
Any one of those could have taken it home this week...

surprise

It was a week of both the usual and the unusual. The first page was a doozy, with Niagara, TtR, Incan Gold and Battle Cry. Page two started the unusual trend with War Machine, Dispatcher and Mission: Red Planet. The meatwad had a crazy haul of Medina, Ra and Tahuantinsuyu!

Wargames had their say, with an SPI WotR, an unpunched VG Titan, Enemy in Sight, Caesar at Alesia, B-17, English Civil War, FA, and three different types of Civilizations, including a new CMCTBG!!

And how about a Middle Earth Quest?!!!

And speaking of hauls, Gregarious had a lovely, multi-day haul including such finds as Genoa, Attila, Carc H&G, Clans, Starship Catan, and on and on and on.

Finding the old version of Evo was pretty sweet as well. And how about funny named foreign games? We've got Feuerwehr and Sturlungaspilið!!!!

But with all these incredible finds, the judges had a hard time deciding on anything, and so went with the novelty of the leadoff home run, for Juxtatype's find of 1870.

Oh my, what a week. Over 800 items! And such items.

How about starting off with the "Quality Euro Finds", such as TtR, Memoir '44, Pillars of the Earth, Leonardo da Vinci, Ghost Stories, A Game of Thrones, Formula De + tracks, Finca!, Galaxy Trucker, Babel, Odin's Ravens, Power Grid Factory Manager, Entdecker, Power Grid itself, Attika, Shadows Over Camelot, Majaraja, and Dampfross!!! Any of those look appealing?

And how about odd duplicate finds this week, any of those? Only Zertz, Daytona 500, Broadsides & Boarding Parties, and Doom.

Other quality "Thematic" finds were Thunder Road, Escape from Colditz, Dark Tower, and The Omega Virus,

Ace of Aces, and Gunslinger were solid finds, and there were some nice wargame hauls this week. belial had a lovely haul, including three copies of Pickett's Charge, and indigopotter had a nice wargame haul as well.

But when it comes to wargame hauls, we have a winner. And the cause for one of the reasons this week's decision was so difficult. Wonderwitch's haul of games dominated the week. And I know that as I scrolled past page after page after page of her finds, the horror of the "cut-down box" started mounting. By the end of the list, I couldn't even acknowledge the games she was listing. So while it was one of the most amazing hauls ever, it was also one of the most horrible.

So, in the end, we come to Meat's find of some super rare, bizzarro find of "Railway Rivals Map O - South Wales Coalfield (West)"

He claims it is rare. The judges tend to believe him. Wow.

What a great week for the thrifters!

First you had your "common" awesome Euro finds, like Pueto Rico, TtR: Europe, Dixit, LC:TBG, Stone Age, a couple of Alhambra expansions, Amun-Re, and in the "less common" category, finds such as Notre Dame, Tonga Bonga, Hera and Zeus, and Auf Achse. "Thematic Games" in big boxes?
HotW, Acquire, Broadsides and Boarding Parties, FA, Space Hulk 1st and 3rd Editions, Battle Cry, and Dark Tower. Duplicate finds of Civ, Epic Duels and Daytona 500. Abstracts like Hive x2 and GIPF. In wargames we had Alpha Centauri, Here Come the Rebels, Silver Star, BH: Leatherneck, and a jet Ace of Aces. Also a sad War of the Ring...

And in the "just plain rare" category, we had King of the Sea and Greyhound Pursuit.

But in the end voting, perhaps due to backstory which included cute children, loose teeth, and panda bears, rumble takes home the statue for his find of Gunslinger.

Oh the few weeks I've had. Sorry for the delay.

But for the finds. An amazing week, with enormous hauls of games. BSimonsSays' mysterious AGoT and LotR+2 expansions find, newboy's Empires in Arms and Supremacy + expansions megahaul, or Pugsly's Aliens + expansion, which is a haul all by itself. A fine crop of standard uplayed Euros that anyone would be happy to find. Some solid FFG Ameritrash with Doom and WoW:TAG. Some "thrifty" finds that are pretty pricey, like Robrob's Up Front, (this judge understands, it is Up Front!!!), a Dune, and a nice unpunched Talisman. But in the end, it was the unusualness of the find that helped itchyritchy take home the honors this week.

Another freaking amazing week for the thrifters. It was a week filled with multiple finds, so let's start there. Six Qwirkles, two LotR: The Confrontation Deluxe Edition, (with one old school regular edition thrown in for good measure), multiple Tikals, three Ticket to Rides. Amazing!

Did you need to start a nice Euro game collection. Take the Tikal and TtR, and add in Vino, Mr. Jack, Torres, Pillars of the Earth, New England, San Marco, Settler's Card Game, Daytona 500, TAMSK, and Agricola!

In the WTF category, we had the LodeRunner with rules in Japanese, and my "Arcadia of My Youth", which was totally in Japanese, or how about Kremlin, still in shrink!!?!?!?!

Need some adventuring? How about Mystic Wood, or Talisman (1st Ed. or 3rd. Edition with bonus expansions, your choice), WoW:TBG, or HakFoo's CL Arkham haul. If Ameritrash is your thing, the standard Fortress America and Samurai Swords finds were made, as well as a FFG Civ.

Dexterity games, just Tumblin Dice, Fireball Island and PitchCar. Wargamers represented with a mostly unpunched WS^IM, (with bonus computer version as well!), and Storm Over Arnhem, (an awesome game that).

And so, that leaves us with three games that need further mention. If it were up to me, brywolf's find of Stephensons Rocket, because that's an uncommon game, (and an uncommonly good game at that). Next we have Hezkezl's find of Starfarers, which is also an awesome find and a fun game, and he showed true thrifter's persistance when he devled under the insert to search for the missing booster.

But in the end, it was lostdog who took it with his find of Abenteuer Menschheit, (I do love saying that), signed by Klaus himself.

Klaus Teuber > Thierry Denoual

It was "unpunched" week on the list this week, so let's look at what was unpunched...

How about War of 1812, World in Flames, Omega Virus, CArc Big Box and Vietnam 65-75? And that was just on the first page. West of Alamein, Formula De, Dominion, Bismark, Carc: The Castle, Afrika Korps, Yinsh, all sealed, shrinked, and/or unpunched. Ludicrous.

Other nice non-unpunched finds included DOOM, Mr. Jack, Descent, Memoir, King Oil, Talisman, Biblios, Around the World in 80 Days, and a first edition Blood Bowl.

But with all this unpunched goodness, it was impossible to single out a FOTW from that group. So, we look to the past, 100 freaking years in the past!, to give this week's statue to slatersteven for his find of a 1910 copy of Halma.
