He was setting up an auction for the Vasels at the same time yesterday. I did not know he was doing that and just happen to scoop him. He has kindly consented to help out here. Thank you, Neil.

He put a call out to some designers and artists to make donations to the auction. John Kovalic answered the call.

All of these gentlemen are great help. Please show them your appreciation with thumbs and kind words.

---------------------------------------------

I have been reading the news about Jack Vasel and I am heartsick. There is a thread that discusses the situation but I honestly don't know what to say. I only have thoughts, concern and prayers.

I will administrate this auction and give the Vasel family the money.

I wish I could do more - much more - but this is the most constructive thing I can think to do of at the moment.

Feel free to add your items to the list. I just added this list to RPGG and VGG.

Please bid generously.

This auction ends on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 9 pm - Central Time Zone.

To put an item in this auction:

1) Scroll up to the top of the geeklist (above the first actual game entry, below this header).

2) Click on the Add Item link

3) Select Board Game (or VideoGame or Designer or whatever) on the page that appears.

4) Enter the game name in the name field and select the appropriate game from the drop down list that appears.

5) Type in game condition and shipping information in the comments section and click on the Submit button.

When the auction ends:

I have received many questions on how to process a donated item when this auction ends. Here is what I can think of so far:

1) The thread will be announced as closed at 9 pm - Central Time Zone - on Monday, February 7, 2011

2) I will announce the winner for each item.

3) I will email each winner with instructions for payment.

4) Once payment is received, I will post that information on the item.

5) The generous person who donated the item and the recipient can then work out the shipping details. Please pay shipping costs to the person who donated the game/item.

6) I will then give all the money to Tom Vasel.

7) I will ask Tom Vasel to post a comment on this list confirming that he received all the money.

8) If this does not work or if I forgot something, please geekmail me. Thank you.

If you have any questions please contact me, not Tom Vasel. He announced that he is taking a rest.

Cate,

Can you add something big and noticeable to the header of the Vasel auction (and perhaps to the end comments as well) instructing people to NOT go through the Marketplace with the final transactions. We do not want to take our 3% commission on these. If they want to put it through BGG have them arrange it as a trade.

Thanks!

I modified the script I wrote for the 20 Most Anticipated Games list and posted this: Jack Vasal Auction Summary

----------------------------------------

1) Please pay using this address, vaselauction@wehneman.com, via PayPal. THIS PAYMENT IS ONLY FOR THE ITEM. Note: This is a PayPal account for Neil Wehneman, who is serving (pro bono) as the Vasels' lawyer for the purpose of gathering the money for this auction. Don't worry, ALL the funds will go directly to the Vasels!

2) When paying with PayPal, be sure to declare this a "gift" under personal payment. That way, Tom Vasel will not have to pay fees to PayPal.

3) Also, please pay for one item at a time. We know this seems inefficient but it will really help the five of us process the items correctly.

4) Put the item number and your BGG username is the subject heading of the email. This is VERY IMPORTANT! We have 500 items to process. Failure to do this will slow down confirming the payment and getting the item to you.

5) Your payment will be confirmed on a post on this geeklist item.

6) Once your payment is confirmed, send your mailing address to the donor of your item via geekmail. Shipping costs should be discussed and handled through the donor.

7) Please allow adequate time for us to process, manage, and reply to payments. We are handling a large amount of items, with a large amount of donors and a large amount of recipients. We will do our best to handle things in a timely manner.

8) If you have any questions, concerns or complaints, please geekmail them to Cate108.

Thank you for supporting the Vasel family. This gaming community is amazing.

This rare and unusual game is still in shrink and I will include the book with 1000 board designs.

"Trillõn's board is made up of 100 blocks that are a different color on each side, allowing the board to be arranged in more combinations than you can imagine. Designing the board is half the fun! Add some of your own optional rules to the already mind-boggling equation, and you are in for nearly infinite excitement."

It just occurred to me that it might be prudent for us bidders to be careful that we spell the game's name properly.

I, for one wouldn't want to accidently bid $35 Trillion!

goo goo goo

I would hold you to that bid! ninja

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #107. Here are the next steps:

1) Please pay using this address, vaselauction@wehneman.com, via PayPal. THIS PAYMENT IS ONLY FOR THE ITEM. Note: This is a PayPal account for Neil Wehneman [me], who is serving (pro bono) as the Vasels' lawyer for the purpose of gathering the money for this auction.

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #114.

This entry is for all of my Netrunner stuff:

2 shrink wrapped starter sets
1 used starter set
2 binders (one green and one purple) that are about 1/2 full of cards
2 boxes that are about 3/4 full of cards

There are over 1000 cards in this lot (maybe 1000's plural). I have let people pick through the folders and the boxes so I honestly don't know what is in them. You get to sort them out.

Here is an actual photo of my collection:

My wife and I went to Korea in 2005 to adopt our first child/son, Ryan. Before going, I emailed Tom and got his phone number so we could meet while we were there. He gave us directions to a game cafe and my wife and I met him and Joe Steadman there for a couple hours of gaming. Tom is as friendly and enthusiastic in person as you would expect and it was a treat gaming with them.

We wanted something short-ish to warm up with, so Tom chose Oasis and taught us how to play. We liked it, and in fact my wife liked it enough that I later purchased a copy for her, but it just hasn't gotten to the table much since we have two kids now, so here it is, sort of completing a circle, though under sad circumstances.

It is in excellent condition, and I'll offer free shipping worldwide.

Thank you for offering to hand-make this game. I freely admit that some of the more manual PnP games are outside my skillset (as my engineer wife scoffs haughtily in the background).

I would like to comment about the quality of the games Alysa makes. She made me four games this Christmas and the quality was amazing. They far exceeded my expectations and could easily beat the quality standards of any gaming publisher.

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #121.

121. RPG Item: 1991 Trading Cards [Average Rating:6.00 Overall Rank:4294]
Andrew Hackard
United States
Austin
Texas
mbmbmbmbmb
1992 Trading Cards

1993 Trading Cards

Factory sets of the 1991, 1992, 1993 TSR Trading Cards. The 1993 set does not include any of the rares that were not in the factory set, because I am cheap.

I put the cards into binders as soon as I unwrapped the sets, and they have been stored in those binders ever since. They were in storage for a while, so I can't guarantee that the cards are in mint shape, but I think they should be pretty good. (If not, then I'll withdraw this auction.) I'll cover shipping within the United States, and will split shipping with folks overseas.

Minimum bid $30.

(Full disclosure: I've posted several lots on behalf of SJ Games, but this one is from my own collection.)

$60

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #127.

Cate, you are truly one of the most generous people I have had the pleasure to witness. Your countless kind acts are exemplary.

Our thoughts are with Tom and his family.

Anyone who wants to donate $5 or more to Tom and be entered into a raffle for a game of their choice (up to $60 MSRP) can send the payment via PayPal to geekpayment@gmail.com

See this item for more information.
Closed. Thanks to all the participants!

So what is the protocol here since we still haven't heard anything? What doubly sucks for me is that not only did I pay, I also sent along all my RoboRally and Blue Moon City figures to be painted.

Labyrinth: The War On Terror is historically inaccurate & politically biased. It's the one popular game that violates BGG's requirements to keep politics out of gen. discussion. And yet it receives special treatment =US-centric views of this site.

The micro badge in honor of this event was FINALLY issued! Sorry it took so long.

There are two names on the recipient list that are bouncing out of the system:

Ulek
detainadequate

If anyone knows who these folks are - correct alias, etc. - please GM me.

Going once, going twice . . .

Detainadequate was actually dataininadequate. Doh!

Ulek? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm going to assume ulek deleted their account (one other recipient did this) if no one speaks up.
