He was setting up an auction for the Vasels at the same time yesterday. I did not know he was doing that and just happen to scoop him. He has kindly consented to help out here. Thank you, Neil.

He put a call out to some designers and artists to make donations to the auction. John Kovalic answered the call.

All of these gentlemen are great help. Please show them your appreciation with thumbs and kind words.

---------------------------------------------

I have been reading the news about Jack Vasel and I am heartsick. There is a thread that discusses the situation but I honestly don't know what to say. I only have thoughts, concern and prayers.

I will administrate this auction and give the Vasel family the money.

I wish I could do more - much more - but this is the most constructive thing I can think to do of at the moment.

Feel free to add your items to the list. I just added this list to RPGG and VGG.

Please bid generously.

This auction ends on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 9 pm - Central Time Zone.

To put an item in this auction:

1) Scroll up to the top of the geeklist (above the first actual game entry, below this header).

2) Click on the Add Item link

3) Select Board Game (or VideoGame or Designer or whatever) on the page that appears.

4) Enter the game name in the name field and select the appropriate game from the drop down list that appears.

5) Type in game condition and shipping information in the comments section and click on the Submit button.

When the auction ends:

I have received many questions on how to process a donated item when this auction ends. Here is what I can think of so far:

1) The thread will be announced as closed at 9 pm - Central Time Zone - on Monday, February 7, 2011

2) I will announce the winner for each item.

3) I will email each winner with instructions for payment.

4) Once payment is received, I will post that information on the item.

5) The generous person who donated the item and the recipient can then work out the shipping details. Please pay shipping costs to the person who donated the game/item.

6) I will then give all the money to Tom Vasel.

7) I will ask Tom Vasel to post a comment on this list confirming that he received all the money.

8) If this does not work or if I forgot something, please geekmail me. Thank you.

If you have any questions please contact me, not Tom Vasel. He announced that he is taking a rest.

Cate,

Can you add something big and noticeable to the header of the Vasel auction (and perhaps to the end comments as well) instructing people to NOT go through the Marketplace with the final transactions. We do not want to take our 3% commission on these. If they want to put it through BGG have them arrange it as a trade.

Thanks!

I modified the script I wrote for the 20 Most Anticipated Games list and posted this: Jack Vasal Auction Summary

----------------------------------------

1) Please pay using this address, vaselauction@wehneman.com, via PayPal. THIS PAYMENT IS ONLY FOR THE ITEM. Note: This is a PayPal account for Neil Wehneman, who is serving (pro bono) as the Vasels' lawyer for the purpose of gathering the money for this auction. Don't worry, ALL the funds will go directly to the Vasels!

2) When paying with PayPal, be sure to declare this a "gift" under personal payment. That way, Tom Vasel will not have to pay fees to PayPal.

3) Also, please pay for one item at a time. We know this seems inefficient but it will really help the five of us process the items correctly.

4) Put the item number and your BGG username is the subject heading of the email. This is VERY IMPORTANT! We have 500 items to process. Failure to do this will slow down confirming the payment and getting the item to you.

5) Your payment will be confirmed on a post on this geeklist item.

6) Once your payment is confirmed, send your mailing address to the donor of your item via geekmail. Shipping costs should be discussed and handled through the donor.

7) Please allow adequate time for us to process, manage, and reply to payments. We are handling a large amount of items, with a large amount of donors and a large amount of recipients. We will do our best to handle things in a timely manner.

8) If you have any questions, concerns or complaints, please geekmail them to Cate108.

Thank you for supporting the Vasel family. This gaming community is amazing.

I'm fairly new to the board gaming hobby, but I owe a debt to Tom for his video reviews that have helped me decide which games to try. My prayers are with his family.

This auction is for the Milton Bradley Gamemaster Series version of Axis & Allies. The box has some wear (and a small marker mark on the front of the box), but it's still in pretty good condition. The player trays haven't been separated. I counted all the pieces, and they are accounted for. The pieces, board, and rules are in great condition.

I'll pay the first $10 toward shipping. Minimum bid $20.

New in shrink.

I will pay the first 15 Euro for shipping, which covers the world if you agree on slow motion delivery without insurance.
Premium shipment (combined shipment for more then one item, faster delivery, insurance, track and trace) is possible if you pay the extra fee (something between 0 to 35 Euro depending which part of the world you are in).

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #360. Here are the next steps:

Some of you may recognize this. This one of the games that I donated to the second auction for Cici Fischer. After over five months of months of the winner apparently not paying (boo!), I think it's time to accept that payment is never coming and so I offer this up again.

Box Condition: Good. Very minor wear and the sides of the lid are a little bowed out.

Game Condition: Complete and in very good condition. The game looks to have only been played a few times.

Version/Language Info: University Games / English.

No minimum bid on this item, but please bid generously. I'll ship this for free anywhere in the U.S. and pay the first $10 elsewhere.

If the bidding reaches $30, I'll cover full shipping to Canada.

If it somehow reaches $75 I will ship for free anywhere in the world.

I would like to offer my used copy of Dune and also my copy of Dune: Spice Harvest.

I am the original owner of both games; the Dune copy is a Good copy, but is missing a few of the small square spice chits (-2(1)'s, -3(2)'s, -1(4)) though these should not affect play. The board appears to have some slight warping in two panels, but is still quite playable.

All other original cards, shields, discs, combat wheels from this edition are present and in good condition.

The Spice Harvest has had the cards punched, but the counters are unpunched and the copy is otherwise unplayed and pristine.

Both boxes have some slight, normal edgeware.

This offer also includes 8 bonus Treachery cards from the General (cut), plus a photocopy of the page with the rules for them; it also includes the Dune CD, ordered from ahgeneral.org.

I will cover shipping in the continental US, or the first $15 of shipping elsewhere.

Please give these a good home (where they will get more play), and bid it up for the Vasels.

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #365. Here are the next steps:

It is a very appropriate game for this auction.

I will pay for shipping to contiguous US, or I will pay first $15 to elsewhere.

This will be an auction for Magic The Gathering: Collectors Edition This is basically a box containing all the original MTG cards including all 5 Mox's and the Fabled Black Lotus. This boxed set has had the shrink wrap removed, but the cards are in pristine condition. Online this box set goes for $849.99, so I am hoping people will see it as the collectors item it really is.

I hope I am not being pretentious by asking for bids to start at at least $450-$500?

God Bless the Vasel family in their hour of need.

Edit* Forgot to add i'll cover shipping anywhere in the United States, overseas I'll cover the first $10.

8) If you have any questions, concerns or complaints, please geekmail them to Cate108.

was kinda unexpected and it added $25 to my bid. It's no problem and I'm glad to help out the Vasels, but it would have been nice to know up front there would be an additional fee.

Hmmm...it doesn't add anything in the US, so I think the coordinators were probably unaware. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Okay so I felt a little guilty about my other addition: Quo Vadis?. It was a game I wanted to get rid of and really knew it wouldn't raise a lot of money.

So here I am, purging my guilt with a brand new, in shrink, copy of 7 Wonders! Shipping is free to the continental US. I will split shipping 50/50 anywhere else.

No minimum or starting bid. Have fun!

We are talking about a copy of the first edition of Funkenschlag - crayons and all. The game is complete and unplayed, just two of the crayons seem to have been used. The boards are a little warped due to the (too) long wait to finally get to the table.

The whole game is in German - the rules are, but that should not be a problem for a Geek.

There is no minimum bid and I will cover shipping to anywhere in the world.

Congratulations, you are the high bidder and winner of item #377. Here are the next steps:

This is *NOT* the retail copy of Nightfall, but a preview copy from The First 100 Days contest.

It has only been opened for me to show off to my family and friends blush

Differences from retail box:
Special preview box
No card dividers
Rulebook doesn't fit in box, but is included

I will cover shipping in the US and pay $10 toward shipping elsewhere.

Update: I will sign the box / rules per Neil's suggestion at the winner's discretion.

This is an unplayed copy of Millionen von Schwalben. The game is heavily language dependent and obviously only in German. The cards are still in foil. Included are 3 additional cards that I received somewhere (Spielbox?).

The box has had a dent in the lower right corner ever since I bought it - otherwhise the box is in very good shape and the components are in as new condition.

There is no minimum bid and I will cover shipping worldwide.

Cate, you are truly one of the most generous people I have had the pleasure to witness. Your countless kind acts are exemplary.

Our thoughts are with Tom and his family.

Anyone who wants to donate $5 or more to Tom and be entered into a raffle for a game of their choice (up to $60 MSRP) can send the payment via PayPal to geekpayment@gmail.com

See this item for more information.

So what is the protocol here since we still haven't heard anything? What doubly sucks for me is that not only did I pay, I also sent along all my RoboRally and Blue Moon City figures to be painted.

Labyrinth: The War On Terror is historically inaccurate & politically biased. It's the one popular game that violates BGG's requirements to keep politics out of gen. discussion. And yet it receives special treatment =US-centric views of this site.

The micro badge in honor of this event was FINALLY issued! Sorry it took so long.

There are two names on the recipient list that are bouncing out of the system:

Ulek
detainadequate

If anyone knows who these folks are - correct alias, etc. - please GM me.

Going once, going twice . . .

Detainadequate was actually dataininadequate. Doh!

Ulek? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I'm going to assume ulek deleted their account (one other recipient did this) if no one speaks up.
