PnP games are great. They really are.

I mean, free games designed by passionate people, how cool is that?

(Btw, i'd like to throw a big "thank you" to PnP game designers)

But saying that all PNP games are absolutely free is kind of a mistake.

See, there's that little, often forgotten thing that costs an arm and a leg nowdays:
an ink cartridge.

And for some PnP games, your ink cartridge is going to suffer. A lot.

So, here comes a list about those nice PnP games that are close to being truely free in that they don't require 12 pages of high-detail cards, 6 pages for the game board, and 5 pages of rules.
(of course, no offense to those PnP game designers that create a game that requires 12 pages of high-detail cards, 6 pages for the game board, and 5 pages for the rules, which is awesome in a sense.)

Feel free to contribute, by adding games and/or posting comments!
But please keep it free of commercial games, let's focus on the free ones to give them more exposure.

In this free print-and-play game, you'll try to complete your city with walls, roads, and buildings. By turning wheels, you can form links that provide resources and developments or allow you to steal from the other player. If you're not careful, though, you may help your opponent or suffer disaster.

Wheels of Time is a short development game that uses a spatial mechanism. With just four printable wheels, one six-sided die, and a pencil and paper (or the optional player aids), it is quick and easy to put together. Options are included for both solitaire and 2-player games.

Small printing: 4 wheels only!
You'll also need a d6, a pencil and paper to track resources.

It's not easy being a dungeon. Especially since those grubby humans started some stupid crusade to pilfer and rob every last gem and ore from your beautiful depths after you've spent millennia cultivating them. Well, you may have been carved from the earth at night, but it sure as heck wasn't last night. Everyone knows that treasures kept by dungeons hold mystical and dangerous powers; that's probably why those invaders want them. Well, it's time to fight fire with fire. Who knows... maybe with a little "convincing" that adventuring party is willing to make a donation or two to your fine collection. One thing's for sure, they picked the wrong sentient cavern to mess with!

4 pages of tiles and 8 pages of rules (easily printed at half-size).

"An Offal Game for 1 or 2 players

Pity the poor people of Cadaver City. Long ago they filled up all their cemeteries with their loved (and not so loved) ones. Now they’ve run out of room so they have taken to dumping the bodies down the sewer (out of sight out of mind). You, enterprising 3rd Class Sewer Engineers (Plungers), see a chance to make some fast money and solve the corpse clog threatening to overwhelm the existing system. At a quiet back door behind the Treatment Plant a line of customers queue up for the bits and pieces you have on offer. Deliver them the right parts, aged to the right amount of time and you’ll receive your reward."

The game only consists of 27 cards (3 pages) and a 1-page rule.

"A Lamb Between Two Lions is a game for 2-6 players that attempts to represent some of the action of Buzkashi games held at festivals in northern Afghanistan.

In summary, the sport of Buzkashi involves skilled horsemen who attempt to pick up a carcass (called the Boz) from the ground and then ride free of the other horsemen without allowing the Boz be taken away.

The goal of the game is to move your Chapadazan to the Boz to take possession of it (grabbing it away from another Chapadazan if necessary) and get free from the rest of the riders or move off the playing board.

This game was an entry in the 2005 Buzkashi Game Design Contest held here on BoardGameGeek."

Only 2 pages for the rules and 2 pages for the material (that is if you print the smaller board)

This racer can be played on any track that uses a grid.
You do not necessarily have to print anything (besides the rules) for this game - in fact, this game has been created to be played during waiting hours in a restaurant, where you draw out your memo pad, draw the track upon it and use some beads / coins / other small stuff as racers ..

If you leave out the graphics when printing (which are basically eyecandy only), the only thing you are printing out here is the rules:
Miniatures? Use raisin or pewter minis!
Dice? Won't get printed.
Terrain? Well .. as long as you don't use PNP terrain, you won't have to print a lot here, too ..

Reprint's comment:
"Thanks to all who participated in the creative contest to create a print-and-play game that consisted of 4 cards or tiles as the game's primary components. That is, you only really had to print out those 4 things, then gather up some dice and makeshift tokens, maybe some paper and pencils, and you had your own complete game!

I see that many participants have entered their games into the BGG database and I encourage all game designers to do so!

I will try to keep this list up-to-date so that we can get all the entries into this list.

If you participated in the contest and have recently added your game to the database, add your game here.

If you started to design something, but missed the deadline, here's your chance to post your game. The contest is over, but if you are inspired by the rules, please enter your game here so others can enjoy your genius!

This list is sorted alphabetically by title."
