So how old are you guys and gals?

I love to put a best-before date on the avatars I see every day.

So please answer the following poll, and then create a new entry with a game that was published on the year of your birth -- either your favorite game from that year, or the game published on that year you think you'd have the most fun playing.

(To search games according to year of publication, click "Adv. Search" and put the same year in the two search fields.)

Alternatively, if you find an entry from your year of birth and you agree with the selected game, just thumb it!

Well, either we had this one, or maybe it was one of our good friends. I recall it had both 1) glow in the dark ghost(!); and 2) boxes with some feathers or something in them that you had to reach into to pull out some pieces. In the dark, I think. I recall it with some fondness, although it took this poll & specific game search to bring it back to my mind!

Didn't realize that it was born at the same time as I was -

Actually, Mastermind is not such a bad game (if indeed solved). I preferred Grand Mastermind out of all of them, only for the orange shapes though!

My favourite childhood game however was Black Box (1977), which was the first 'real' game that I was taught by my father.

I guess I could have settled for Advanced Civilization but I've always felt like little of an misanthrope. And I rather not dwell in a game that reminds me of how ancient I am.

Besides, Intruder is an awesome game. Actually, I think I'll go and play it right now.

Yeah, this has been posted a couple times already, probably because 1971 was a relatively poor year for board games (the only other one I played was Mastermind).

But, I do have strong memories of playing this as a kid with my family. I didn't realize that this game was almost a decade old by the time my family acquired it.

There were 7 pages of games from this year and I'm too lazy to go through them all. This, however, was on the first page and completely caught my attention due to its ridiculousness. Why would anyone want to play a Twister-esque game of Boggle? No idea, but I will so spell out 5-letter words, even if I only have 4 appendages.

This game (along with Passout and a Caesar-themed chess set) was always in my parent's bedroom closet growing up. I'm not really a fan of hockey and I doubt I ever actually played it. But I remember being fascinated with the idea that the game's cover sleeve was actually the board and it was made of plastic.

I still think that's a neat idea.

This is the only one from the year I was born that I actually recognize. I actually owned this when I was a teenager and played it a few times solo. I remember it being one I enjoyed (along with Midway which I enjoyed because of the connection I felt between the game and the movie which helped me "see" the game), and one I regret parting with (along with Panzer Leader, PanzerBlitz, The Guns of August, and Caesar at Alesia).
