The implications are not readily apparent.

According to the "10 Days in..." series, the most popular continents are...

USA (1223 owners, rating 6.56, 5520 plays, rank 856)
Africa (1138 owners, rating 6.63, 7923 plays, rank 767)
Europe ( 1061 owners, 6.64 rating , 5218 plays, rank 806)
Asia ( 727 owners, 6.79 rating , 4549 plays, rank 802)
South America ( 224 owners, rating 6.97, 586 plays, rank 1708)

So it's America by how people spend their money, Africa by how they spend their times, Asia by ranking, and South America by what they think of the game. Europe, well, I looked hard for a category Europe wins, but I came up empty handed.

In the Highly Suspicious Statistics Department, I bring you Crazyhouse. This is a Chess variant that supposedly takes 30 minutes to play. As of April 7, 2011 at 10:19 PM PST it has 10,000 times, all by one person, all in the month of April, 2011. 10,000 plays should take 208 days, but this person has done it in less than seven days. This person has played Bughouse Chess, the Chess variant from which Crazyhouse is derived, 3,000 times, and Chess itself 19,000 times. For Chess alone, assuming 20 minutes games, that's two years and two months at eight hours a day. Each of these nice round numbers is a single entry in the database for multiple plays.

Speaking of curious entries, the game Block Off is the most played game in the database with 10,000,000 plays by one BGGer (all in one entry in the database, so all, apparently, on a single day in January of last year), and a single play by another person.

Like puzzles? What do these games in common?
Dugi
Motala Strom
Praetorian
Pulling Strings

Give up? They were all played multiple times in December 1969, and they are all web published. That was a big year for the world wide web.

In trying to find if I was part of the Cult of the New, I found;

The average year of all my games publish date is 2002.64.

However if I rank expansions the same year as their base game it lowers to 2001.15.

Then again lets remove all expansions from the ranking and we get 1999.93.

But wait don't we talk about new games get higher ratings?

Very well let's only look at my games rated a 7 or higher.

All games average is 2007.41!

Expansions matching is 2005.80!

No Expansions is 2006.95.

I don't like to consider expansions so my 'hot games' collection is about 3.5 years old.

Also if you average all three together you get 2001.54.

I would say I fall into the cult of the new.

Feel free to check my math.

But beware as 20 are mb

As expected 253 are mb

But only 73 also include mb

I don't know this for a statistical fact, but I assume it's true: This game appears on more GeekLists than any other.

For those of you who actually feel like doing the work, your mission, should you choose to accept it is to compile the following useless statistics:

Exactly how many GeekLists is Busen Memo on?
What's the second most common game on GeekLists, and how many is it on?
What's game makes the third, fourth, fifth, etc., most appearances on GeekLists, and how many each?

You can see the games with the most plays here /plays/bygame but that's a meaningless number. Agricola has 87,278 plays and Catan has 87,231, but the former has only been out for four years and the latter for sixteen. If they're equally played Catan should have four times as many plays. If you divide plays by days since the game's release you get...

Dominion 227 plays per day
Chess 0.47 plays per day
Agricola 60 plays per day
Catan 15 plays per day
7 Wonders 70 plays per day
Carcassonne 26 plays per day

All with the very reasonable assumption that the games were published on April 9 of their respective years.

Some would quibble, I'm sure. Frequent Chess players have their own web pages. Settlers is often played by casual gamers who don't log every play on BGG. Maybe BGG didn't even have a way to record plays back in 1995 when Settlers came out. Humbug. I took numbers stored on a computer, retrieved over the internet, and divided them on a calculator, therefor the results are scientific and if you don't accept them you are a mouth-breathing luddite.

Dominion and 7 Wonders are the most played games.

There are currently 6946 ranked board games; however, adding up all the ranked games in each of the eight subdomains results in a total of just 4743. This means that over 2200 board games are, like The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Game, not assigned to any subdomain. (Since some games, like Twilight Struggle, are in more than one subdomain, the number of subdomainless games is likely much higher, possibly over 3000.)

Breaking things down by category:
1628 ranked games in Wargames (lowest ranked game: Nero)
754 ranked games in Strategy (lowest ranked game: Outdoor Survival)
739 ranked games in Family Games (lowest ranked game: LCR)
540 ranked games in Abstract (lowest ranked game: Tic-Tac-Toe)
