I am pretty amazed at the sheer variety of games that are coming out in 2011. These games appear in alphabetical order and all of them could be superb titles!

This is my first attempt at a Geeklist so please thumb if you enjoyed reading it.

Core Worlds is a deck-building game for 2-5 player with a playtime of about an hour. The art is absolutely spectacular. This will be a must buy for me from the looks of it.

From BGG:
"The ancient Galactic Realm, ruled from the Core Worlds of the galaxy, is waning. Now, the barbaric kingdoms that lie beyond the galactic frontier are amassing their strength, choosing this pivotal moment to strike at the heart of the fading republic, establishing new empires built upon the ashes of decaying civilizations. But these outer systems are not yet strong enough to engage the forces of the Core Worlds directly. The young kingdoms must first gnaw at the edges of the crumbling frontier, developing new types of units and shrewder tactics. They must build up their energy resources to launch magnificent fleets and overwhelming ground forces. Then, when the time is right, they must strike at the galactic core itself, claiming the most exalted planets for themselves. The barbarian kingdom that achieves these goals will carve out the greatest empire in the galaxy."

Hey, one can dream. It has a 2011 release date listed here on BGG but I don't think a publisher has been established. This could give Mansions of Madness a run for its money if it ever sees the light of day.

A typical horror-based co-op for 2-6 players with great art.

This game was recently announced by FFG and gives us Western junkies another reason to look forward to the rest of 2011. The game board is not the prettiest thing I have ever seen (that would be Ninjato's) but we will see how the worker placement mechanic works out.

From BGG:
"Deadwood is a wild-and-wooly board game with a quick and deadly twist on classic worker placement games. Your gang consists of three different classes of cowboys with different strengths: greenhorns, gunslingers, and trail bosses. Cowboys ride into town to gain control of (annex) buildings and fight other gangs' cowboys in shootouts.

This looks like Dungeon Run with a Steve Jackson vibe added. Plays 1-5 players in about 20 minutes.

"In Dungeon Raiders, each player takes the role of a different adventurer. You’ll need to work together to survive the dungeon, but only one of you will make it out with the most treasure and win the game!
The dungeon is different each time you play, offering new surprises as you collect treasure, trigger traps and fight off horrible monsters!"

I hope this includes 2 player because it is listed as 3-5 but the description states 2-6 players. The art looks great so far! From BGG's description:

"The galaxy is at war. The central galactic empire, not what it once was, has too many enemies, and a few young alien races see this as a golden opportunity to expand their horizons. But who will join them in the eminent struggle to become the next galactic superpower?

In Empires of the Void, two to six players compete to expand their empire in a vast, diverse galaxy. Each time they reach a new planet, they must decide whether to conquer it and strip the land of its resources, or befriend the natives and obtain their special ability. With 10 starting alien races to choose from, and 19 more to conquer or befriend on a variable board, no two games will be the same."

Another interesting 2011 Z-Man Games release, Equilibrion is suitable for 1-2 players and is a co-op card game. The premise is just too cool to paraphrase, so I will copy and paste the BGG description:

"For eons, Incubi (bad, negative dreams) and Sognae (happy, positive dreams) have dwelled in Equilibrion, opposed but complementary. As the king of this City, you must establish and maintain the delicate balance between those dreams: place them in the various districts, harness their power, and beware of the Chaos -fearsome entities that thrive on discord and hatred...."

From BGG:

"Eruption is a competitive game in which each player defends a village on the game board from incoming lava. Lava flows are represented by hexagonal lava tiles that are placed on the board on each turn. Players try to hold back lava flows by building walls of straw, wood, or stone. Walls built on a lava tile prevent other players from placing a tile next to it unless the wall burns up (resolved by a roll of the dice, with stronger wall materials increasing the probability of remaining intact). Walls built at the edge of a village are the last line of defense. Whenever a lava flow enters a village, either directly or by burning up a wall in the village, damage is assessed in the form of a higher temperature on the Burn Meter track. Various action cards exist that allow players to rotate, replace and remove tiles or carry out other actions related to the volcanic eruption. The game ends when one of the villages burns up completely on the Burn Meter or all of the tiles are depleted. The winner is the player whose village has the lowest temperature at the end of the game."

"The game sees players taking on the role of newly recruited members of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. With the Eight Great Spells missing from the Unseen University the future of the Disc hangs in the balance. Each player is tasked to collect and return a number of the spells to the university before it is too late. Each player selects one of four Guilds to infiltrate, Thieves, Assassins, Alchemists or Fools. Their chosen Guild Card will give them a specific selection of the Great Spells to collect and grants them a unique Guild Ability which can be used to hinder their opponents. It is also used to mark the players Charm, Guild and Magic abilities, which can be developed throughout the game."

I'm looking forward to this. It's a realtime boxing game where players can use actual fighting styles (and their counters) to beat their opponents. It looks like the designer spent a considerable amount of time learning about boxing techniques and incorporated that knowledge into a great game. As a fan of boxing, great art, and thematic games, I am excited for this one to arrive. Word on the street is that it will be unveiled at GenCon this year (the release date was pushed back because they insisted on having high quality cards for the game).
