My wife and I went out to some garage sales today; there were a ton of developments in our area that had community-wide garage sales going, so we had lots of targets. Anyway, I wouldn't normally pick up chess, but in this case it's one of those Renaissance Chessmen sets from Lowe, which are pretty cool. Unfortunately, there's been a touch of interaction between the cardboard frame and the plastic on the pieces, so I probably need to apply some plastic polish to them. $1
I picked this up along with the chessmen, primarily because the box was actually signed by the designer. Not a lot of trade interest, but what the heck, it's the love child of Connect 4 and Checkers, what's not to like? $1
Along with the chessmen and Pentana, I picked this one up primarily because it should go over well with my parents and at lunchtime gaming at work. Everything's complete, and the card holders are in very nice shape. $2
And a bit of retro trash again from the R.W.H.F.W Savers-complete & awesome condition for $1.99...love the artwork on this. Who is the great unsung artist who did this & Dungeon Dice, Gambler & stuff for Dynamite magazine? Love his style!
I went garage saleing Saturday with my mom. Good thing too, because I don't have any money. I tried to use my debit card yesterday, and it was declined. I was a little worried because there was a report in the paper about skimmers targeting businesses near my neighbourhood, but when I checked online my fortune pennies were still safe. I tried my card today and it still didn't work, When I drove to the bank, which was on the garage sale route, I realized they were closed because it's a long weekend here! Edit: Yup, my card was blocked because I had used it at a suspected skimming location. It's all good now! Anyways, we stopped at a sale and I noticed this game and two expansions sitting unobtrusively on a shelving unit. Thinking this was going to be expensive, I picked it up. $10.00! A quick peek inside revealed contents that look barely used. The nice lady running the sale gave us the games and a pie plate Mom picked up for $10, so the 3 games were $9. Since I had no cash on me, Mom paid for it. Thanks Mom!
