Well, I thought I'd join in with the current crop of geeklists displaying peoples wishlists and forthcoming new titles they're interested in, both Essen and beyond, it'll be useful for me to keep tabs on anyway, though I won't be annoyed if you have any comments to add to the items by way of information, thoughts or feedback, or updates or previews I may have missed.

I keep thinking I've come over the hill now and there are not so many new games I'm really that interested in, but clearly I've a way to go before I can fully erase my cult of the new badge (though I think it's a slightly more discerning cult of the new badge than before, and I still feel like the shelf of games I have is more than enough to keep me going for a few decades yet...)

Well, here we go...

A game in the mould of Twilight Struggle, by the same designer, and same company, endorsed by those whose opinions I value, and currently undergoing some tweaks based on playtesting finding some potentially dominant strategies. If this game is close to as good as TS (never mind the possibility it might have refined the format, and added some interesting tweaks) and of course this is very firmly sat on my P500 preordered list.

I was interested in this for some time, I loved the block idea for the fog of war, and it seemed the designer had come up with a pretty simple yet clever system for tactical combat, plus the maps have their own very unique and cool look. The blocks have since been replaced by counters, but there is still some kind of fog of war element in there, the only problem might be have I acquired a few too many wargames to be realistic about the chances of much play at home

More info will be coming out in the next couple of months and it should ship this year for sure.

If time is an issue, the cool thing about the game (in my opinion) is that it is very simple (especially for a WW2 tactical game) and you can play multiple scenarios a night.

My missus wasn't too interested and I was still unsure about the rules. It was ok but I'd be disappointed if that was the extent of the play. I wasn't seeing the interest, but that could all be due to the time it was taking and the lack of knowledge with the system.

Interesting theme, and some twists on the usual worker placement mechanic. yes, even I am getting a bit tired of it now so this one seems a bit novel and worth having, plus its a kickstarter project, and as a physicist with a keen interest in the development of the atomic bomb, this game seems perfect for me. I hope the production matches the inspiration

Amazing looking game, block based wargame set in feudal Japan, great detail and history in the accompanying notes. Some quite clever mechanisms in this too, and not too intense with the rules and complexity so I have high hopes this one will see the table

This one however, looks like it will be great fun, and I paid a lot of attention to its suitability with 2 players, it will be interesting to see if Chad has pulled off another great euro game, but the rule book sounds pretty good, a non standard theme makes it also appealing

Well, Agricola and Le Havre are 2 of my favourite games, if not the top 2, and while Loyang and Merkator disappointed (me), I have high hopes this one will sit more squarely alongside Le Havre, with a rondel based system and a much richer, heavier experience.

This one seemed pretty neat, but then there were some lukewarm preview comments, and the more I looked at it, the more I thought I might hold off. The theme is somewhat controversial I suppose, but it's more that the game might be a bit long and clunky for what it is, but it's still in development so we will see

I think the game is very enjoyable with the lower player counts as well. Two player game is a slightly different experience than multiplayer (then again, most games are) but is rather fun to play, too.

Obligatory note: as the game's developer and graphic designer, I am of course biased.

This is amongst my defintive buys for Essen.
While I don't expect it to be replacing TI3 (to be quite blund, no game will ever replace that game in my estimation) I thinkt it looks like a very interesting space conquest game.
I'm not keen on the minis that come with the game (they didn't impress me when they came with Galactic Emperor and they sure don't impress me the second time around), but the mechanics seems interesting and I just love modular boards.

Of course by then, god knows how many FFG big box games like this will have come and gone, but I had such a good time playing this on the XBOX with my kid brother, and the co op angle here seems to be well suited, I think I might stash this alongside Earth Reborn for the future

The designer is also an englishman marooned in Sweden, and in fact, lives round the corner from where I lived until this year. I like the concept here, love the look of it, but might not be suited to playing with 'er indoors, and have read some reviews that make it sound like there's quite a bit of rules overhead and referencing required, which will make it even harder to justify

Just when I think I've escaped from Felds games (not that I dont like them but generally I dont feel like they have a lot of long term appeal to me, just a bit too light and similar feeling), but then I hear the term "mancala type mechanic". Since I keep meaning to give Mancala a try, and think it sounds neat, this one has gone back on my radar. Actually am surprised more games haven't (seemed to) make use of this mechanic. But I will need convincing it's not another churned out variation on his triangular scoring systems, tussle for start order actions games

Vinhos was a huge letdown for me, and while this game is supposed to be lighter (I dont think Vinhos is heavy at all), it looks like at least it might be more streamlined and focussed, in fact, it shares several features with the wine game I started to design on paper the day after playing vinhos and being so disappointed. Thats probably not a good sign for this game eh HAHA. Well, we will see.

Hi Lee,

VINTAGE is completed different from VINHOS.
This game is ONLY about the production of Port wine in the Douro River Valley, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world.

In this game we try that the mechanic of the game reflects the reality of producing Port WINE.
Two examples of that: the use of Brandy in the production of the Port Wine and the use of for the ‘vineyard’ cubes (with the real names) and the ‘old vineyard’ cubes.

Also the game came with a double side board. In one side you play the simple game. This version is aimed at players who are not used to this kind of family strategy games. In the other side of the board you play the normal version with many more strategic options and where luck plays a minor role.

I hope you give it a try and maybe, just maybe :-) you will discover a game about Port Wine that you’ll like.

Regards

Gil

Well, to be honest, this is just here for completeness. I love street soccer which at its core is really a quite abstract game of positioning and particularly setting up your pieces for concerted multiple attacks, and knowing when to give up lost positions to make that happen. It's very little to do with the dice, as any glance at the online sites will tell you, where the same players routinely trounce everyone.

I'm just not sold on the concept of making a full sized version when part of the appeal of the original is the fast paced play, and the way it captures the essence of 5 a side footie games perfectly.

it still has th core SS mechanics.
Also plays FAST!! avg 25-40minute games
Its 11on11 which to me has more appeal than SS(and im an avid SSplayer)
And as much fun but even more tense than SS, imho.
It is DEEPER than SS, and the replayvalue, after 50+ games played, still seems endless
Nobody does de futebol like Cwali.........Nobody........meeple

With the gameplay that we will experience, there will almost definitely be online Leagues in the future!!!! This Photo is taken from a computer version so you can bet that they are well planned for both markets.
Suggestion:
GO OUT........GET IT.........GET GOOD.........and join the Leagues that are sure to comelaugh ...then....become a Champion.......before 2020

I was drooling at the box cover early on in my BGG era, which is not much more than 18 months in total. It seems it might happen, and to be honest, might actually be a lot better than I feared at one point, but again, it's designed for a lot of players, so this would be a faith acquisition with a view to a future game group scenario.

current status: will wait to see reaction from early buyers

Not sure were you gathered that info, but the game actually plays great with 4. So definitly playable with a smaller group.
Wow..."better than you feared at one point"...that sounds dramatic

I need to try the trial version of course, which is free. Interesting concept, so we will see how well it plays

current status: will try the free version of this first

I'm in the same boat Lee. It sounds like a great solo game but I need to try it out!

There aren't many people who turn down one of my white russians...

sounds interesting, cool theme, no 2P option though, and it seems to have been on its way for ages, so maybe it will never arrive

current status: keep an eye on, for interest sake

agh, I would like this but we havent even tried Wings of War yet, and i doubt the missus and the little one will be scrambling to push onto a real plane based wargame. I am tempted though, it looks fabulous.

just for the theme as I recall, not sure I am so interested now, looks quite basic and light, though info is limited and this has been in the database for some time

current status: will keep an eye on just out of interest

Interesting card mechanic in this wargame from GMT with a theme that's very close to home for me, well, it was a few hundred years before I was born of course, but still, a Yorkshireman never forgets

I think it's mainly that I've churned through quite a bit of the euro genre, and still have a very nice playlist waiting with those, so now I'm just picking out a few wargame and AT titles, the former mainly from my own interest, and the latter with half an eye on the future :-)
