This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
Our GeekGuild: Welcome to The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Please do mind the stacks of prized games, do not mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Make sure to bow before our King Belial I, and pay your due respects to previous Kings Great_Mazinga, minionhunter, Krazygit, EvilTimmy and Blackwind.

Next, found this: Looks barely touched. $0.99 at Goodwill.
Left a copy of Redemption: City of Bondage on the shelf though. I've seen the Redemption CCG before, never knew there was a board game - but still not interested enough, even for $1.
But the semi-heartbreak was not picking up the black lacquered, mother-of-pearl inlayed Mah Jong set I saw in the collectibles cabinet on my way in. Meant to go back and look at it in more detail... until a friend of mine walks up to me while I was in the checkout line saying "Eric! Look what I got!" clutching the set. *sigh* Well, at least I know it's going to a good home!
The pic is probably not right, but it's a tank of some kind. Specifically, "Space Marine Land Raider Crusader." Now, I'm not sure if the whole thing is in the box, but there's a pile of unpunched sprues with tanky looking stuff on them and a scattering of loose pieces. No paperwork or decals or whatever else should be in the box.
Also present is a box of Tamiya Military Miniatures, German Infantry Weapons Set. I think that's complete, though what do I know. Some of the sprues in the 40K box are a different shade of gray, as well, so there might be more Tamiya stuff in there.
All this for $2.99 at Goodwill. What the H-E-double-toothpicks am I gonna do with this?
I just re-read this. I said "box" a lot. Box! Box! Boxboxboxbox!
Spent last week at Gen Con and while I did get some great deals in the auction, I won't post them here separately. (Earth Reborn in shrink for 28 bucks!)
First day back to work and went by my normal daily Goodwill stop, found this on the shelf for $1.99. Inventoried it tonight and it's complete although the one box has a split corner. I consider my thrift year as going from Gen Con to Gen Con since I usually sell quite a few of my year's finds in the auction, so I consider this a pretty decent start to my new year of thrifting.
I stopped in to the thrift store that's on the way home. Quickly scanned the shelves and saw a red box in shrink. It was this game. The original price sticker of $24.99 was still on the box which made me feel better about grabbing it for the Saver's price of $6.99.
Not sure if I'll keep this one, sell/trade it or give it away. Our group of friends is considering doing a Carcassonne tournament and this would make a great first prize. We'll see...
BTW, anyone have any good rules for a tournament for a multi-player game like Carcassonne? We were thinking of just having people meet up when they can in groups of 3-4 people. Whoever loses gets a strike. 3 strikes and you're out of the tournament. Any better ideas out there?
Picked up a complete Heroquest yesterday, so I went back and grabbed the Battle Masters they had for another $4. Looked like a random jumble of parts, but looks can be deceiving. Complete! Including all of the stickers. This game takes a while to inventory.
Now granted the stickers on some of the pieces were put on a bit haphazardly, sure looks like a kid owned this.
