This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
Our GeekGuild: Welcome to The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Please do mind the stacks of prized games, do not mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Make sure to bow before our King Belial I, and pay your due respects to previous Kings Great_Mazinga, minionhunter, Krazygit, EvilTimmy and Blackwind.
The Order's Anthem: Sing along with our good old thrifty theme song...
I loaded up all the games I had duplicates of (about 3/4ths still in shrink) and brought them with me to the game shop. I traded everything from my two shrink wrapped Sequences, two shrink wrapped Cineplexity, Shrink wrapped Adversity, shrink wrapped Bakugan Brawlers CCG, to one of my four copies of Scotland Yard, my four copies of World of Warcraft CCG, and other games I just can't remember now. All together it was about 23 games that cost me about $60 at thrift stores.
My husband LOVES this game, and only ever got to play it once in England. It's out of print and costs of fortune to buy. We feel like we got a good deal.
$2, Deseret. Didn't intend to play, but it had lots and lots of mini poker chips for A&A + 8 D8s. Plus, it's so obscure ("Make History on your living room floor") that I thought BGG could use some more gallery photos.
A number of stops later I hit up GW where I found 3 Munchkin games. It appears someone left these behind as half the tape on all of them had been cut. This one is missing a couple/few cards. $1.99 at GW.
Acting purely on geek guidelines I grabbed this Haba at the local boot sale for 50p. The deciding factors in the purchase were the name Knizia and the cute badger meeple. Must remember not to store it anywhere near my copy of 'Gric as, according to the farmers in this region, those nasty badgers are killing off all the cattle. My son, being 17 is a tad too old for this game so I'll end up using it in the classroom.
GW. $2.00. All there and in good shape WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE DICE! Missing most of the dice including the "football passing die". All easily replaced with the exception of the fpd (needed for completeness and flavor.) Could somebody tell me if this is a 6-sided or 8 sided die? Special icons on any faces? TIA!
(Also bought a set of double-nine bones (dominoes) for $0.99.)
