My wife and I recently attended our 4th WBC since we got into the hobby in 2007. While we've had fun in the past, this year was special. We gamed like nobody's business. Here's my best recollection of what happened.
If I didn't mention you, please don't take offense. I met so many people. Please post that I met you so I can make the connection as well.

I love going to the WBC, I just don't like the trip there.
If you've never had the pleasure of driving in the "wonderful" state of PA, let me tell you that it's a nightmare. All the highway's are 2 lanes and all of them are under construction at any given time. The driving infrastructure of the state is just a disaster. I can count on sitting in random traffic due to lane closure for no reason. Sure enough, this happened 3 times on the way out.
I think this is the universe's way of testing my mettle. "Let's see if the big fella snaps this year!"

We arrived,signed in, and bolted for the open gaming room upstairs.
It took all of 5 minutes to see a familiar face. My buddy Tom was there with a large portion of his family. Tom taught us this simple little press-your-luck game. It played out in about 15 minutes and provided a nice backdrop for our catch-up conversation.
This game is a nice little ice-breaker. Nothing special, but a bit of fun.

My wife and I then proceeded to go play in the Ra tournament. I don't like the game with 5 players but I wanted to play so why not, right? I did fairly well coming in 2nd in my game. My wife took 3rd in hers. I had some great folks at my table and I think we all had a good time.
Ra is in my top 5 of all time. This game is just great no matter what.

After Ra, we went back up to the open gaming library and pulled out Hornet. I thought this game looked great and was happy to get to try it. We read the rules and played with

I like this game a lot. It's got a lot of risk managment which pays of huge if you guess right. There's also area majority which I love. The setup also looks great. We really enjoyed our play of this, but I didn't end up buying it. I just couldn't see it working with 2 and since 90% of my gaming is 2-player with my wife this didn't make the cut.
If anyone wants to gift me a copy, I wouldn't say no.

We then taught Biblios to Dave and played a quick game. This one was really close. Dave focused on only one suit but pushed the value up to 5. My wife tried to win a couple, but only got one which was also up to 5. I took the remaining 3 which were all at 2 giving me a 1 point victory.
This is my second favorite game of all time. It's always good.

I don't remember which GOO we fought, but I did have a great time. Shellie is an incredible teacher and was really patient with us. Best of all, she did the bookkeeping so we didn't bog down. Andy brought the laughs every time he read a card.
This was a great session and I'm so glad to have finally played. I'm going to make this an annual event.

We were up at about 7:30 on Thursday so we got to the open gaming room early. Our first play was Artus at around 9:00AM. I read the rules and Bianca and I played it right there. We enjoyed it enough to place it on the "to be ordered" pile. My wife said it felt like a constantly changing puzzle which is something she particularly enjoys. I liked it enough to agree with her so we'll own this soon.
This one wins the award for coolest board and also for "Best use of a suckling pig in a board game".

We played this twice after Artus. It's a fine abstract, but it's a bit meh. Dave played this one with us again and we were also joined by a guy named Rick for our games. He was wandering by and saw this so I invited him to join. Rick seemed like a good dude and we all had a good time.
My wife later played this as a 2-player and said it was terrible.
Tetris Link looks cool enough to be setup on your coffee table full-time.

I told my wife to pick a game to learn and this was it. She and Dave punched it while I read the rules. They were great, up until the last phase of the turn. Then they got ugly. We were able to piece it together, but wow, that last section was bad!
This is a light auction game with incredible 3D pieces. When you build a house, you really build it! It looked great when we were done, but it was a bit light and I can't imagine it being good for 2. Still, my wife loved it so if I can get a copy in trade I'll do it.

This game was like speed rummy. I wasn't crazy about it. I'd compare the interactivity to Nertz, which I would vote to play every time over this.

came over and said hello. After doing some talking, we got to playing this with Chris, his wife, and some friends. Chris did a fine job of teaching and we were off in no time flat.
For the first 20 minutes, I played wrong. I tried to take this seriously. Once I realized that was way wrong, I loosened up and we all had a blast. That would be my bad, but I fixed it before too long.
I was literally one turn from winning, but my wife put the kibosh on that. I even offered her jewelry but she wouldn't give in.

This game is definitely a top 5 all time for me so the tourney was a no brainer. I figured even one heat would be fun so that's what we did.
I had a good group of guys at my table. We had a good time and the game was pretty close. Steve got really lucky at all the right times and won handily with 70 points but the rest of us were tied with 49! That was really amazing.
My wife was the victim of massive catastrophes which put her in last in her game. We both had fun so that's what really counts.

After Ra, we headed out to dinner at our favorite restaurant, the Lancaster Brewing Company. This place has killer beer and even better food. It's quite possibly one of my favorite places to eat in the entire world.

Friday morning at 10 is when the dealer room opens and I was there with Stephen and my wife in the Stronghold booth. We were selling Code 777, Survive with the Giant Squid and 5/6 player expansion, along with Stronghold's newest game (and personal favorite) Confusion.
Man, you get busy in those booths! The swarm of humanity was amazing. Anyone who knows me knows I love to talk so this was right up my alley. My wife even got into it selling some games and chatting to customers. This was some of the most fun I've ever had. I really enjoy doing this and hope to have the opportunity to do more of this in the future.

2:30 brought us up to a demo of Core Worlds which is being released in the fall from Stronghold.
I can't say enough about this game. Think space exporation with deck-building. 20-30 minutes per player. Constant decisions. This game is a winner, folk.
Our session went great. Within 2 rounds everyone was playing with little help from me. I loved watching the game unfold and seeing how everyone went after different things. It was a well-played game.

After a second dinner at the LBC, we came back and Jim taught Nightfall to myself, Brian, and Patrick.
This is a cool deck-builder. Getting your deck to fire off in good chains is incredibly challenging and learned very quickly that you can't play this game like Dominion which I think is one of it's strengths. You need to diversify so that you can always play cards. That's how you win. In Dominion, you specialize. In Nightfall, you stay agile.
I got absolutely demolished. Still I'd like to play this game again.

Sag and I sat down to the bad boy around 11:30. We went through the rules quickly and were setup for scenario that seemed to favor the Germans. Of course, I was playing the Americans!
Long story short, I made one of the dumbest moves in military history and paid a very dear price for it. HOWEVER....
I loved this game. To me, it felt like it did everything Space Hulk does but better. I love the variable force and especially the cards. No two plays of this will ever be the same. It's a really great game that I would really like to play many more times.

With my game of Panic Station not happening, I hooked up with Shellie and her husband, along with Dave D and my wife for a game of Grimoire.
This is a fantastic game. It's got simultaneous action selection and some great card interaction. A very simple game at it's core, the player interaction really drives this to another level. It's a very smart game.
