This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™, the Tape Monkeys™, and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Weekly Thrift List Wayback Machine The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly thrift lists through time, and will be adding stats and interesting tidbits for each week. Your Thrift Store Bargain Finds Through Time
Our GeekGuild The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Do mind the stacks of prized games. Don't mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. I would not normally buy Monopoly variants. But I saw this in the Salvation Army shop in hadliegh for £1.50 and thought all those buildings must be useful. It was complete but I have just dropped it (half wit that I am), its still compleate.
gloating about something that he is going to pick up in a thrift store.
I shake my head and say goodbye to 25 cents
Then I get another text saying that it will only cost $2.98 (but that cost me another 25 cents)
Then, since he texted me and another guy, the other guy responds and I get ANOTHER text (now I'm down 75 cents) and finally I get another text WITH A PHOTO (I think I'm down around $3.50 now) of....
I mutter a word that my Loving Wife doesn't approve of. Mainly because I know that this game will go into the Warehouse of Deadguy Storage, never to see the light of an online auction site (but it MIGHT show up at the Flea Market at BGG con).
So, today I'm having connectivity issues from home meaning that I have to drive 30 miles in to work. Well, might as well stop and get a soda...and cruise by the thrift store but driving through the neighborhood between the gas station and the thrift store I see this along the road with a sign that states FREE
I jump out and nab it, I already have one, but two are better, right?
At the thrift not a lot to brag about until I gee the GINORMUS box. I flip it over..CROSSFIRE, the original. I crack open the box and find four working guns, the board, and a tupperware full of balls and four pucks. JACKPOT!
It was just put out, so I shell out the $10 for it and load it up. I'm not sure how this sells compared to the newer model, but I will be finding out.
I found another third edition at the South Madison Goodwill for $3.15. This is the third Catan I've found, but this was the first that wasn't complete. It was missing 1 orange and 1 white road, and one resource marker. I have the marker, and will check the parts list.
If I don't get lucky, does anyone have any tips about painting the parts? I have extra roads in other colors from a parts copy, and I'd like to complete this one since it's so close.
For my 300th geeklist item I'm happy to post: Key to the Kingdom.
This is the third time I've thrifted this game. Two dollars at the flea this morning.
This copy has two split corners in the box top and is missing the green pawn and the instruction book (it has the hazards book, but not the rule book). So close! Amazingly all six bridge pieces are there.
I hate it when i take an 'extended' lunch and don't find anything...... Seems this week the stores that usually have full shelves are stocked thin and the thin pickin' shelved stores have been stocked full. Unfortunately with nothing but crap. I DID however seem to manage to find this one! Kids love the GW games and this has been on our 'get it if I can thrift it' radar for a bit.
still.....4 stores and only this makes Homer.....something....something......
