Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Oh my. Oh my. Oh my.

I have to say that in the years I have been doing the Secret Santa, I have had some really great gifts. And while the gifts I have received have all been quality choices, nothing prepared me for what just happened a few minutes ago.

When I came home, I saw a larger-than-expected package from Wargame Depot. This box wasn't huge, but it was puzzling me. I didn't think any of the games I had on my wishlist was big enough for a box like this. This seemed like the classic example of over-packing.

So, in true BGG Secret Santa tradition, I OPENED IT, eagerly.

The first thing I saw was a Wargame Depot receipt and LOTS of packing. That seemed to solve my puzzling question. Wargame Depot apparently uses lots of packing, so there must be a cool game hiding in the packing.

Then, I glanced at the receipt and despite no one being around, I yelled, "NO WAY!"

This was not over-packing. There were MULTIPLE GAMES inside. There was not one, not two, but THREE wargames inside! The first game was "Storm Over Stalingrad," a game I've wanted for many moons.

I carefully pulled that box out to reveal . . .

"Field Commander: Rommel," which has my first ever North Africa campaign.

I pulled that box out and saw the massive box of . .

"Steel Wolves: The German Submarine Campaign Against Allied Shipping - Vol 1," a game I had been dying to play.

My jaw was left open. Any one of these games, and I would have felt honored and appreciative. But to receive THREE is overwhelming.

I am so thankful, so thrilled, and so humbled to know that my Secret Santa gave so generously that I want to promise my Santa that these games will meet many, many hours of grateful gameplay.

The word "happy" does not begin to describe my feelings.

THANK YOU, SANTA! YOU ROCK! WOO HOO!

Yesterday I get a call on my apartment buzzer. "Ah," I think. "It's that FedEx package that I got the notice for yesterday!" I answer the phone to buzz him up, but what's this? It sounds like the UPS guy!
"I have a package for you from UPS", he says. What could it be? I haven't ordered anything from Amazon Canada reciently, have I? Has a preorder shipped? No, I haven't preordered anything!
The package arrives, and it's a Mayflower box!
"Ah ha! This must be my Secret Santa!" I open the box and there are TWO wrapped presents inside! Holy moly!
But what to do? Well, there are no notes saying NOT to open the gifts....right?

Two unwrapped presents later:

I now own a copy of Inversé and Rat Hot! Wow! I didn't even think you could get a sealed copy of Inversé!

A huge thank you to you, Secret Santa!

As the message I received from Santa yesterday said, my gift arrived before Thanksgiving, but just barely. The message also said I could open it before Christmas, but I think I will wait. I don't get many surprises on Christmas and would like to have one under the tree for me this year. I will update this post Christmas afternoon after I have opened it.

Thank you very much Santa, I am sure I will enjoy my gift very much.

Opened my Secret Santa gift this morning and love it. I got Troyes. I have heard many great things and have been wanting it for quite a while. Thank you Santa. I am getting ready to read the rules and should have a chance to play it sometime this week, I can't wait.

Christmas gifts in time for Thanksgiving weekend? It's like Secret Santa knew I had lots of gaming planned and wanted me to have new cardboard to table up! Santa did give me the option to wait until Christmas to open my gift but... let's be honest, that wasn't going to happen

Not only my gift arrive in a timely fashion, but I got two! First was Belfort, which I've really be looking forward to. I'm a big fan of Tasty Minstrel Games and this looks fantastic. Second was:

Dixit 2

Anything that adds more variety to Dixit is a good thing in my book; it's one of my favorite party games.

Thanks Santa! You managed to make both Christmas and Thanksgiving great this year!

Today as I arrived home, returning for another night at the Lisbon Gaming Weekly Event, I was pleased to find a small package in my mailbox with a fat red die looking at me...

It was the first of the two packages my Santa said were on my way.

As I opened it I found out some "coal" he had mentioned on a previous message, two expansion boosters for munchkin (Waiting for Santa & Santa's Revenge), Angry birds card game along with two packs of sweets.

This is indeed a great experience

Anxious for what is on the other package.

Yay!! A package arrived yesterday from my Secret Santa!

Santa used CLS Games to assist with the delivery. It was wrapped so nicely, I thought I should wait to open it.

I waited an entire day and I could not hold out anymore!! Inside the wrapping paper was Mondo!! Awesome!

It is perfect timing to take and play for Thanksgiving.

Thank you so much Santa!!

P.S.

I know I still need to play a session of Roads and Boats to stay on the nice list...working on that!! Also, I am wondering if Santa is also a fan of train games, Neil Gaiman and themed birthday parties?

I found a postage slip when I got home last night, letting me know that I had something to pick up from the post office. I wasn't sure if it was Santa or not at the time, as I have quite a few parcels in the post at the moment. As soon as I picked up the parcel though, I knew it was due to the postage locations. I ummed and ahhed for a few moments, thinking about whether to open it up. But with no instructions from Santa, family members bugging me about what they could buy me from my wishlist and my own insatiable curiosity, I could see no other recourse than to rip it open.

After going for a swim in a sea of packing nuggets I found myself holding not just one, but two boxes of awesome gamey goodness!

Firstly, one game I have been really excited about since reading a few good reviews and session reports, The Resistance. Next time my gaming group gets together in December, I aim to make sure this is the first thing that hits the table once enough people arrive. I'm hoping that there will be enough people willing to get into a game like this to make for some fantastic and tense games. It's a shame I can't try it out before then though.

The other game will definitely get well tested this weekend though:

Looking forward to playing this too and with 2 player a possibility, a few games on Friday with some after work beers is sounding fantastic right now. Though with Dominant Species and Urban Sprawl having arrived on Tuesday as well, I can imagine I will be quite busy with games for a good while.

Thank you for the 2 fantastic games Santa! I hope you also receive something enjoyable and fantastic from whosoever has been lucky enough to get your name as a target.

Merry Christmas!

P.S. I will post an update in the comments once I get to play each to let you know how smoothly they have gone down.

Update: Games have been played. Both are a blast and will hopefully get plenty of play. Power grid is good fun and I will pull it out as often as i can for a while. The Resistance is fantastic, though it will only be once a month or so that I get enough players to play it. Also, apparently I suck at the resistance no matter how much fun I have. If I get a spy card I will either burst out laughing or otherwise give myself away as soon as I see the card and in each game so far that I was resistance I have voiciferously agrued in such a manner as to swing votes to the spys. Hopefully I can learn to control myself better with practice.

An Ode for my Secret Santa:

Oh! I’ve hired a Gnome for the scoring phase,
‘Cause no matter how large your Elven crew,
When you pine for the highest Belfort points these days,
For the scoring phase a Dwarf will never do.

I’ve got an Inn close to my Marketplace, it could really use
Lots of planking to attract a labor force,
And my gatehouse needs a correspondin’
District marker right next door,
From Pub crawls to Hydroponics --
Looks like Snowball Economics!

Oh! I’ve hired a Gnome for the scoring phase,
And thank you Secret Santa for the game!
When I pine for a worker placement fix I’ll gaze
On my Belfort and I’ll praise your hidden name!

For Real!

The knock at the door and a beep of a wand tells me that a package has arrived.

Me: "Thoughthammer? Hmm, maybe it's my Secret Santa gift this time!"

Wife: [Excited] "Open it! Open it!"

So I open the box, and inside is a wrapped gift, and a note that indicates that it is, indeed, from my Santa.

Wife: "Does that mean you CAN'T unwrap it until Christmas?"

Me: "That's the idea. Of course, I could check my wish list and, based on the dimensions, narrow it down..."

Wife: [Excited] "Or, you could just unwrap it!"

No -- Santa went the extra mile to wrap this, so under the tree it goes, the first wrapped present of 2011, and awaits Christmas to be discovered!

In the meantime -- to my very Secret Santa -- thank you for your kindness! I'm very much looking forward to opening it -- and when I do, you shall get your verse!

By way of explanation of some of the comments -- I had an earlier false alarm where I was sent a gift with no explanation -- and assumed it was from my Secret Santa. It was instead from a friend, but I'd already posted my thanks. My real Secret Santa will get serenaded as well, probably to a different tune, once I know what is behind the wrapping paper! But here's the original poem...

Martin Wallace Games I grok,
I cannot deny it.
Brass and Steam make up the bulk
Of my gaming diet.
Yet one title that I'd sought
'Vaded me in earnest
'Til Kris Kringle said, "I've got
That which for you yearnest...."

When the FedEx truck's quick stop
Told me I'd been Santa'd:
"God's Playground", my eyes did pop,
And my wish was granted.
Therefore, Secret Santa, dear,
Thank you for this present!
Merry Christmas! Grand New Year!
You've made my Season pleasant!

I came home for the Thanksgiving break and was super surprised to see a package waiting for me on my desk. Not sure if this was something I had preordered or something, or if it was my secret santa gift (though I had a strong inkling it was the latter), I forced myself to pry the top open (curse my lack of patience!)

What I found inside totally put a huge smile on my face:

The first 5 Expansions for the Lord of the Rings LCG!!
The Hunt for Gollum
Conflict at the Carrock
A Journey to Rhosgobel.
The Hills of Emyn Muil
and The Dead Marshes

Totally wasn't expecting that much awesomeness in one package. Great timing also, since my birthday is on Saturday. So it made it double awesome. I'm so stoked to give these games a play. Seriously a huge thank you to my secret santa for the awesome gift. I hope you have an awesome holiday season. Merry Christmas and thanks again!! Hehe,
yesterday evening my wife casually mentioned that our daughters noon nap was disturbed by the ringing postman and 'one of those packages that I always receive'. However I didn't order anything and my not so secret santa had already warned me that something was on the way!

So I got the package (wife had put it away) and unpacked a shiny new copy of Red November. Cooperative games (with a traitor-mechanic) go very well recently with my gaming group so I'm sure this one's a winner.

So thank you very much,

Today a package arrived, lucky me I had decided to have a day off from work to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner.

It was justa brown box and my Secret Santa have been quite Ninja like since the beginning but had decided to wait to 24th december to open my package.

But a brown box was not nice under the christmastree and then I open up the box and down below a lots of newspaper I found a copy of High Frontier.

Ooops, I was not supposed to see me present, hmm maybe if I giftwrap it and keep silent. No, I am just to happy about this present.

Played it once and just love it, and want to play it more and more.

Very thanks Secret Santa.

It has been a rough month with family illness, so finding a big box waiting for me when I came home last night was a wonderful mood lifter. The first thing I see inside is the new Dominion expansion, a game that my girlfriend just loves. I'm very happy to get this, it will see a lot of play.

Along the side of the box I found both Parade and Coloretto. I have never played Parade, but think it looks like a lot of fun. Who doesn't like a crazy Alice in Wonderland theme? It's been years since I played Coloretto, but I have always enjoyed it when played, I think it is a nice little filler that my parents would probably play with me, always a good thing.

The big surprise in the box was Cleopatra and the Society of Architects, a game I played and enjoyed at a convention probably four years ago and have been contemplating ordering since then. But most of my game time is either with two players or with a group playing heavier games, so I couldn't really justify buying it. This is the type of thing that I think makes a great Secret Santa present...I would probably never have bought it myself, but I'm very excited to have it in my collection! I have a couple of friends that are very new to gaming but excited to delve more into it, this will be a great game for them. Plus my girlfriend will like it due to the cool pieces and board.

Thank you so much Santa for the great games!

Edit: I just realized that I received a game from my must have list, one from my love to have, one from like to have, and one from my thinking about it list. That is a really fun way to do it, very cool Santa!

The postman called by with the Secret Santa package addressed to me today. Although Santa has confirmed I'm allowed to open it when I like I'm going to be patient and wait for it to be opened together with my girlfriend as we're both participating in the Secret Santa together. Whether this will be at Xmas or earlier I'm not sure, I don't know if I can be that patient.

Thanks Santa, from your message saying you'd mailed the package and to it arriving has been really quick.

edit:

Here's a photo of me on Christmas morning, slightly hungover and just out of the shower opening the BGG Secret Santa gift. As can be seen this included Last Night on Earth with the Growing Hunger expansion, some Finnish Christmas Tea and some Finnish chocolate. These are very gratefully received from our not so secret Santa

We've already had a couple of games with the base game setup and really enjoyed it, we're looking forward to playing with the advanced game and expansion components.

Thanks again 'Santa'

My Santa did not waste any time or wrapping but set his elves straight to business!

Opening the box, I wasn't sure if it was for me or something I had ordered for some friends. But when I saw what was inside.. I laughed. It was awesome!

Twilight Struggle! So awesome. Brand new 2011 Deluxe Version and everything. I am very excited.. I grew up in Germany and was there when the wall came down so I've already got a personal connection to this game. I'm thinking of using a piece of Berlin wall as a marker.. I'm also wondering if my Aunt who works for NASA can find me some 70's era mission medallions to pimp this one. I'm getting ahead of myself.. I haven't even played it yet.. but it's definitely open!

I also found Small World: Be Not Afraid... in the box! Perfect because I just got some other small expansions that need the extra housing. That one will see some play time with me and my boys.

Finally.. (and this is what kept me up until 2:15 am last night) I got The Resistance. Folks in my group are VERY familiar with mafia/werewolf. We've tweaked those games dozens of times but never have we made the game a NON-EXCLUDING or Dystopian future themed, social deduction game. I lost count of how many games of this we played last night.

Anyway, big thank you to my secret Santa (whose name I see on the shipping sheet but whose BGG profile I am unable to locate!) I just want to say that I know you are NOT really Santa.. He would have shipped it personally. But you've done an equal if not better job! (I don't think I deserved as much! )

Secret Santa was very good to me this Year. I received two games that I really really wanted. I guess I was better this year then my wife told me I was.

Thanks again I cannot wait to play these with my family. Especially Survive this game has many good memories of childhood associated with it.
