Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Dieter, Humphrey & Leandro are hard-working elves! What better way to kick off the weekend than by receiving a cool, heavy package.

I knew something was approaching, because this year, I had the chance to exchange geekmails with the old one. That was very cool.

Inside the box, not one, but two games!

Prêt-à-Porter
was my top priority. I have no taste for fashion, so I'm really curious to see how the idea translates into a game (after all, not every Agricola fan has a taste for growing carrots and sheep either)!

Neatly tucked inside the package, there was another, unexpected box: the Resistance!
I've tried it once and liked it a lot, it will be a solid addition for those crowded game sessions at home!

So thanks a lot, Santa! I hope you'll be as lucky/happy as I am, and I hope my target will be as well.

I know it's still early, but merry Xmas y'all!

EDIT 11/28/2011:
Santa, you're a funny guy (but your elves are soooo under-qualified )
Another package today! What was that ? Hooooo... An used deck of cards with a 'Feeling Lucky ?' label! Brilliant! If that package came home BEFORE the one I received friday, I would have been worried. Here, it just added a large smile to my face. Let me tell that the look on the face of the DHL guy was priceless! Thanks!

A large box with 3 (three) wrapped items inside. I already looked at the smallest one (see GL-item), but I rewrapped it. The other two have at least two boxes of different sizes inside.

My Secret Santa is awesome!

Will post more links if I opended the rest.

Here is the geeklist with the games in my package Look what my Secret Santa sent me in 2011

Woke up this morning and found a box sitting on my door step. I thought, "I am expecting a few things, but I don't remember ordering anything from CoolStuffInc. Could this actually be what I think it is?" So, I bring it in and the first thing I notice is the weight. I thought, "this is pretty heavy." Well, I haul it in, grab the knife and carefully cut the tape on the top. Well, the first thing I see (outside of pink Styrofoam is:

ATZ: All Things Zombie

Being the zombie fan that I am, I have been wanting this game for the longest time. Being that my FLGS doesn't carry LnL products, I seem to forget about it. Another thing, being that I am primarily a solo gamer, this will also add to this game "hitting the table" quite a bit!

Well, upon taking out ATZ, I realized that the box STILL held more secrets. Upon pushing aside another few handfuls of pink Styrofoam, I found this right underneath:

Yggdrasil

WOW! This game really intrigued me based on the Norse Mythology and again, for the fact that it can be played solo. I thought, "My SS has really gone all out and made some amazing choices!"

Well, once again, what I thought was supposedly a "empty box," still had surprises remaining. Upon pushing, you guessed it, MORE pink Styrofoam out of the way, I uncovered the following:

Thunderstone

Countless times I have had this game in my hands while browsing my local FLGS and each time I put it back thinking, "If I get this game, I KNOW I am going to have to get all the expansions for it because I have heard a TON of good things about it....and I really don't want my wallet telling me that it feels empty." All things considered, this is another game that fits in PERFECTLY with a genre that I have loved since childhood....Dungeons.

Along with the games, there was also a 5 dollar off gift certificate from CSI. Can anyone guess where I will be buying my Thunderstone expansions from?? Oh well, my wallet can hate me all it wants after the holidays.

Needless to say, I was completely blown away with my Secret Santa and would like to tell him/her:

"From the bottom of my gaming heart...Thank you very much! It's people like you that continue to amaze me with their kindness....a kindness that will continue to give me joy for years to come. I only hope I can "pay it forward," and give a stranger the same amount of happiness that you have given me this holiday season. Merry Christmas Secret Santa!

Yesterday there was a delivery at my front door. What could it be??

There were two options:
1) It's the gift which I ordered for my target; or
2) It's the gift from my secret santa.

Looking at the box I noticed it came from Belgium and then it became clear. I ordered the gift for my target in Germany and my Santa had already revealed that my gift would come from Belgium.

So the gift was mine! Mine, mine, mine!devil

The box is still unopened and will remain unopenend untill Christmas. But I am curious.....

** Edit 25/12/2011 **

Today it's Christmas and I finally got to open my presents!!

I got Arkham Horror!!! I've been wanting this game forever!! Can't wait to play my first game

And there was yet another gift in my box. I unwrapped this package and......

It's Bohnanza!! Also a great game!

Thank you very, very, much Santa Claus!!

Dear Santa,

Many thanks for your cryptic correspondence and the kind appetiser gifts that arrived to whet my excited appetite, before the main course.

In your first message you hinted that you were not from my homeland, which I've always strongly suspected during my formative years (of which I am still forming).

In your second message you detailed that you had sent a “small packet” which I presumed was from your secret base somewhere in the North Pole.

Your third message from one of your Elf helpers, Fogg, teased about a lump of coal being transformed into my present, possibly forgetting something – easily done at this time of year - and details of three packages, including the previously mentioned one, that were due to arrive from “...across the pond...”, “Staffordshire” and a “...surprise from somewhere...”

In the meantime you sent me the following web links to keep me amused whilst I wait (You had done your homework):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9Duzp1XLt0&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPmESnXI7Vw

In your third and final (well possibly final!) message you confirmed what I have known all these years, that you rival a certain Time Lord for mastery of space and time. Your careful logistical planning in tandem with the erstwhile mentioned Fogg meant that all three packages arrived together.

I have opened your first packet as directed. Thank you for the Agricola: The Legen*dairy Forest-Deck, The Tanto Cuore Promo cards and the National Hockey League cards - who would have though Santa was a Chicago Blackhawks fan?

I definitely enjoyed your wildlife photos and I am impressed. More so considering I don't know how you find the time to fit in your hobbies and manage the greatest parcel delivery business in the Universe.

I'll leave the other two packages until the 'Big Day' itself and I'll update this entry with pics and stuff as the weeks go by.

Many thanks Santa and Merry Christmas!

Jeff

After the 'Big Day' (sorry for the delay in posting)

Thank you Santa for...

Eminent Domain Smashing! Oh, and not forgetting...

Carcassonne: The Phantom

A big "Thank You" to my Secret Santa who went "above and beyond" to make this year's treats fun and for such generosity.

Best wishes one and all for 2012!

Thank you so much Secret Santa. I have just returned from a trip and my games were at the post office! The BGG exchange is great.

I have no idea who my Santa was, but many thanks wherever you are.

Aside from Charon Inc, I got two other games, but my wife was a total Grinch and said I would have to wait until Christmas to open them. Oh the agony.

We will be playing Charon Inc. tonight. We are big fans of Hermagor, and since this is based on the marketplace phase of that game, it should be great.

Merry Christmas

UPDATE

Charon Inc. is excellent.

I also received Batt'l Kaos, which is also a lot of fun, and The Russia/Japan map, which we have not tried yet.

Best Secret Santa ever!

At first I was a bit concerned that Santa had lost it. He sent me a message early on, which seemed to praise how up to date my wishlist was, but then went on as follows:

Quote:
I hate to spoil the surprise but I am SO excited and believe you should be ripe with anticipation as well. I love a great game full of the suspense of Arkham Express. And we had a spare copy of Tower of Mystery as well so you will be delighted in two great games. Nothing like an evening of Lovecraft with a little extra Mystery thrown in.

surprisesurprisesurprisecrycrycry

Now surely I would be happy with anything Santa might bring to me, however I was VERY CONCERNED he'd mixed me up with someone else, as I CLEARLY RATE BOTH OF THOSE GAMES A 1.

So I plotted who I disliked enough to re-gift a copy of The Tower of Mystery to when I received a second worrisome message from the fat man up north.

Apparently, Santa took user

hostage, and through stench and physical violence forced MangledDragon to write me about a package being on the way.

---IMPORTANT---
If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of MangledDragon please contact your local authorities. The RCMP have been notified and, as I understand, a nationwide search is underway. My description of the perpetrator has been of little help though, but I hear Santa's are being hauled in by the dozens for questioning.
---------------

Fast forward to about 9am this morning, when I'm awoken by a knock at the door. I was a bit weary to open it, fearing to find the grizzled remains of mangled dragons and under-productive elves, but I worked past my fear and opened the box to find:

This was exciting! I've only recently got into the hobby, but I've really enjoyed games that are often termed as "like El Grande". A couple weeks ago at a local gaming convention I got to play it for the first time and I enjoyed it as much as I hoped! And now here it is, with all the expansions! WOW!

Not that I would ever expect more than such a great gift, I knew the box was a bit big for a single game, so I reached back in and found:

thumbsupthumbsupthumbsup

YEOW! Imperial is actually very similar to El Grande to me, I've found that I like stock games, and this one was rated very highly, but I've never picked it up. I haven't even ever played it, so I'm looking VERY forward to getting this one some table time.

Thanks SO MUCH Santa, this was really above and beyond, two of my highest wants, I couldn't even dream you were so generous!

Hey! Wait. What the heck is this?

Moving my hand around the packing peanuts I come across another box! This must be Tower of Mystery or something worse. Santa is probably toying with me! It's probably a big fat box that says "The joke's on you, they're all Tower of Mystery!" So reluctantly I pulled the box out to find:

!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT?! I literally just heard about this game a few weeks ago (http://www.shutupshow.com/post/12325502497) and didn't even know it was out in the states! It wasn't when I looked so I just put it on my wishlist so I didn't forget about it. I love games like this; Scotland Yard, Clue: The Great Museum Caper, Letters from Whitechapel, but this is so much different from those games. In this you're part of a secret team (I love secret team games!) trying to bluff your way to an escape hatch without getting killed (or you're an alien trying to do some killing!) I am so stoked about this game, I can't wait to try it!

I gave the packing peanuts one last glance over, on the chance that I'd missed a card or note (it was a big box) when my hand hit something metal. What could this be? A license plate? An old hubcap? Hmm.. well it's:

robotrobotrobotrobotrobotrobot

This is just getting silly, where's the bottom of this box?! Fzzzt! is ANOTHER recent addition to my wishlist. I'm not too big on deck builders so I never looked into this one, but after reading a few user's recommendations for it I thought it sounded fun, I do really love auctions. This game came in a really nice tin case, and it seems like a pretty easy game to teach, so I'm hoping to sneak in a few games with friends with this one soon!

surprisesurprisesurprisemeeplemeeplemeeple

Wow, WHAT A SANTA! He's surely done his homework here! I can't wait to break in these fantastic gifts! Thanks SO much!

Oh yeah! My Santa is awesome!

I'm in the process of punching all of the many counters for The Ares Project, a game I've been excited to play more of since Mr. Engelstein showed me the prototype. It's great to see how the game has evolved, and I can't wait to get this to the table soon. Plus, I'm in the rule book!

But that's not all! Santa also included...

On the Underground

...a game that's been on my radar for some time, but I've never had the guts to pull the trigger on, and...

Mow

...a lovely light card game that will be perfect for playing with the family over the holidays.

Many, many thanks, Santa, wherever you are, and I wish you the best of luck on your podcast!

Thank you Santa!!!

I am very happy to have received not one, but THREE expansions for two of my favorite games.

My gifts arrived while I was away for a few days, so I couldn't actually check them out 'til today. In addtion to Dominion: Hinterlands I also got two expansions to Mansions of Madness:

Mansions of Madness: The Silver Tablet
Mansions of Madness: Season of the Witch

I got to play a few games of Dominion: Hinterlands at BGG.CON, and really enjoyed it. My younger daughter (who loves Dominion) is already begging to play!

And my older daughter loves playing the keeper in Mansions of Madness, so now we have some additional scenarios to play where she can try driving her dad and his friends insane!

Thank you again Santa!

WOW!!! The elves delivered a package this morning from my Secret Santa and I told myself that I would be able to wait but only if it was gift wrapped.

Crap, it was gift wrapped. This would prove to be tough since there was two wrapped items in the box. Now to wait ...

That lasted all of 12 hours before I cracked from the suspense. I was driving my kids crazy, my friends crazy, my wife crazy and myself crazy. The insanity had to stop. I know that by doing so I would land on someone's naughty list but I could not resist any longer.

Therefore, I tore into the wrapping like a starving man would rip through a hamburger wrapper and I found a prized gem from Stefan Feld...

Die Burgen von Burgun

But, that was not all. There was also the bonus item. What could it be? I ripped into it immediately only to find an expansion to my families most loved game. The game I can never win at but this expansion will turn the tides for sure.

7 Wonders: Leaders

OMG!!! The two games I was most hoping for and Santa got it right.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I hope my Santa gets what they want for Christmas as well. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.

This year, I was blessed with *two* Santas! And the second one has sent a great bounty: A Few Acres of Snow, Dixit, *and* 7 Wonders: Leaders!

Thank you so much, Santa 2! (Or maybe it was 1. It's not easy to tell when things are sent via UPS or FedEx!)

(I should take pictures sooner or later.)

Thank you Santa for the game! after receiving this:

A myriad of people will try to seek
the many treasures buried deep.

Alas, if they find what you pursue.
The prestige will be lost and
in its stead a face shine ruse.

I was mighty curious what things could be. I was out at Thanksgiving number 3 today 2 hours away (I think I have had my fill of Turkey) and a friend stopped by the house to pick up some hockey tickets we left for him (cleverly hidden outside our house) as we could not go to see the game while off doing dinner up north. He moved the package into the garage and texted us, so I had hours of wondering what might be there.

A second package came! This was Jump Gate -
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/62809/jump-gate
signed by the designer, and personalized to me! This little poem was in my inbox about it:
The game is coming from near Window,
and when you look inside, cause you to bellow.

As I have left a nice surprise,
to brighten your sunrise.

So now I'll take my cue,
and bid you adieu.

I don't have a picture of that yet, but will add it. Thanks again santa!
Classic cat + box image:

I look forward to trying to play it next Thursday at gamenight!

My wish list contains a vast array of stuff, so it's always a surprise as to what I'm going to end up with from my BGG Secret Santa. A box from Cool Stuff Inc. showed up, causing me a brief moment of confusion. I couldn't remember ordering from them recently, but it certainly isn't unheard of. Did a pre-order come in? Did I sleep order something? Who knows?

I opened the box and was greeted with this:

Duh, Secret Santa! So, the next question was, what was it? My youngest helpfully speculated that it was a game, which shows he's been paying attention to the usual parade of boxes. Here we see my oldest holding the lovely, blue wrapped package:

Upon opening it, I was greeted with Battle for Baghdad, a game that's been on my list since it came out for how different the subject is from my other wargames - I have almost nothing modern era, and I'm fascinated by asymmetric situations, so this is right up my alley. Thanks, Santa!

Santa.looked deep into my wishlist and gave me two top priority items. Powerboats and this expansion to Age of Steam:

Thank you, Santa
Powerboats will be great with my sister and in-law, as well as with my inexperienced gaming group at work, where we sometimes hit 6 persons. And I look forward to trying the single player Puerto Rico map.

Today, Santa asked me if I had not received Railways of the World Event Deck as well. Fortunately I had kep the box, so I started digging through all the tons of fluffy stuff inside. And lo and behold

turned up.
Thank you again, Santa
You have been very generous.

Oh joy, oh jolly!

Being contacted by my BGG SS, he was having a bit of trouble ordering my gift. In his own words, he had found this nice site "which has just what I'm looking for." Unfortunately, the site only allowed strange, elf-confusing methods of delivery at predefined locations, and as such he required my assistance.

stepped in as middle man, and together we sorted out the delivery. We also invited each other to our respective countries (Denmark and Australia) if we were ever in the neighbourhood - not likely in the near future, but it is always fantastic to have another suprise waiting.

Eagerly awaiting further info, the next day the site owner wrote me to let me know a package had been shipped, providing me with tracking information.

The next day at work I spent a good chunk of time refreshing the track-and-trace page of the delivery company, where it said "5:45 : Package sent for delivery". Oh the horrorful waiting! (That's 5:45 AM for you in the US)

At 13:04 (01:04 PM), my refreshing yielded this fantastic information: "13:02: Package Delivered". Huzzah! Off to the store (I had come to work earlier so that I could leave at my leisure), a 40 minute walk, and pick up the parcel. 35 minute walk to the nearest train station, and then wait for my wife to meet up with me so we could head to my parents for the weekend. The package was a bit wet by now. The white and blue bag contains Fury of Dracula (second edition) which I accidently bought used in good condition the same day. What, one gift is not enough laugh

Getting into the train, I opted not to open the package until we arriwed home. (My fantastic santa had allowed me to: "feel free to either get someone else to make it a surprise or just get in and start having fun. It's your choice." Oh the horror of waiting! Shaking the box yielded no further information.

Getting home, the opening began:

Feeling a tingle of disappointment at the lack of foamy filling, I nonetheless pressed on. And now the joy unveiled not only one box, but two!

Not only had I received the highly-desired expansion to one of the best games i own:

Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game

I had also received a game that I have been considering getting for quite a while now (but it was always sold out at my FLGS), ever since I heard it described as "Battlestar Galactice in half an hour":

The Resistance

Oh joy! Oh jolly! I have already ordered the colorful plot cards from the Geek Store modest

Thank you Secret Santa, you are truly a hero!
Or perhaps you would be better described as a really Great Person of the Resistance?
