Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

I must admit I am slow in posting about the receiving of my Secret Santa gift. It was on my doorstep when I returned home from BGG.CON. It was 5 AM and I was dead on my feet. Did that stop me from immediately tearing into the package? No way.

First off, it was a LARGE box and for good reason.

Inside were,

Macao
Navegador
and
Troyes

I have previously played Troyes and I think it is one of the better games to be released in the last 2 years and am glad to add it to my collection. I have never played either of the other 2 games and added them to my wishlist based entirely on reading reviews for them here on BGG.

I was able to play Macao first (last night) and after 1 play all I can say is Wow! What a great game, with a perfect mix (for me) of luck, planning and unique game play.

Have read the rules for Navegador and cannot wait to get it played next.

Thank you Secret Santa for your very generous gifts!

My Secret Santa delivery was waiting for me when I arrived home from work, and I considered leaving the two (!) boxes wrapped until the holiday... for about two minutes.

My Secret Santa was very generous! Not only Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization but also Baltimore & Ohio!

How did you know, Santa, that I was hoping for a train game? Was it my wishlist?

And, as this is my first BGG Secret Santa -- and haven't yet sent out my own surpresa -- I hope to Santa It Forward again and again.

Thanks, Santa!

I know the whole Secret Santa idea is to surprise and delight, but I'm usually able to dim frantic mood swings with a dose of pragmatism (and chemicals).

Forget that! Got home tonight and there on the porch was a cardboard crate! It was huge! Santa said I was good this year (he must have had the wrong channel dialed in, which is fine...) and so inside I found

DISCWORLD Ankh-Morpork

AND LANCASTER

and a nice $5.00 gift card from CoolStuffInc.com.

Wow! I don't know what I was expecting, but this WAY better than what I would have done for myself!

Thank you Secret Santa!!

My Secret Santa this year sent me two games! Hacienda and Belfort! Santa must have saw my comment that I had been playing Hacienda a lot on spielbyweb! I am really excited for Belfort too since I didn't get a chance to play it at BGG.con this year. From what I understand it will be a game that I really enjoy and the production value from Tasty Minstrel Games is astronomical!

Thank you so much Santa!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Got 2 wrapped packages today from my Secret Santa....

One is a little smaller than standard with some serious weight to it and the other is a little larger (thinking maybe Cyclades)

No matter what is inside I am thrilled that they have arrived already. Too bad Mrs yendi57 says I have to wait till the 25th.

Thanks santa, and thanks for waiting until after BGGCON to update my wishlist.

Awesome Santa:

Thanks for falling into my trap. I was very naughty this year, but thanks to some good PR (I mean Public Relations, not Puerto Rico) I was able to trick your evaluation system. Like a politician in election season, I took care of "lose ends" and came squeaky clean in time to make my list!

Muahahahahaha!

Now with this pagan themed game by the great Knizia, I will learn how to raise my crops, avoid being swiped by the camel traders, build pyramids and get benefits from being a good follower of the forgotten Nile immortals!

I have all the instruction I need from this most awesome archeological document: Session Report.

Sorry I had to trick you, but a board gamer must do what a board gamer must do.

Please forget you read this by next year, so I can spring the trap on you yet once more.

Here are some pictures of me enjoying the opening of the present, which will remain on the tree until Christmas (I am not THAT bad).

Best Regards,

Naughty Juan

Secret Santa you rock!

My first two years of doing this I have had quiet Santas. I had no problem with that, they delivered quite nicely each year.

This year I thought I might have had a quiet Santa as well but after a week or so he made contact! He sent me a letter that one of his elves had written before he went on a trip to somewhere. The somewhere was the secret because Santa removed his destination from the letter.

Quote:
Mr. Adams,

Below is an email that one of our elves was writing to you before he left on his vacation. Since it was never sent, I'm forwarding it to you though I am unsure if it'll make any sense to you. I've removed any words that might have spoiled your Secret Santa gift.

Thank you.

********************************************

Dear Mr. Adams,

Coming off of a great 2010 BGG Secret Santa, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your many years of participation in the BGG Secret Santa.

Though you can probably guess, I am not Santa Claus but merely one of his many attendants. In doing my research on your wishlist, I noticed your list contained a vast number of games that I had never heard about. So, being the ever so dedicated elf that I am, I went to our local library and did some research. It's amazing that they even had a copy of [REDACTED]! I had no idea that such places as [REDACTED] or [REDACTED] even existed.

However, I was left feeling a bit down after finishing the book. I felt I needed to learn more about [REDACTED], so I looked online to see if [REDACTED] was playing in any theater, and wouldn't you know it, it was! Although it was playing in [REDACTED], I knew I had to see it, as it was an important part of my research into your wishlist. So, I quickly bought a plane ticket to fly to [REDACTED] and all I can say is that that show completely changed my life.

Unlikely as that sounds, it is true. I have shown [REDACTED] to many other elves and they seem to think it's a good read too. Who knew that [REDACTED] would be so influential. (Sorry for all of this digression.)

Luckily, I was able to find a copy of [REDACTED] at [REDACTED] and hopefully they will be able to send it to your home in one piece. If it arrives damaged in anyway, please let us know so that it won't impact [REDACTED].

Have a safe and wonderful Christmas.

Ulrik

Now I'm thinking maybe Ulrik went on a trip to Arkham and I wrote back and told Santa that I hope Ulrick is okay and doesn't go crazy or something.

Ulrick then wrote me himself telling me to expect a package and it was okay to open it because it would hint on what was coming next. Next?? More than one package?!

So when I got home from Thanksgiving holiday there was a nicely wrapped package for me and of course I tore right into that one as I had permission. Inside was a leather bound hardcover copy of the Necronomicon! This was something that I had been looking at getting for awhile now. It was a personal touch that really floored me and reaffirmed to me that this is the greatest community anywhere.

So today I got word that a package was to be delivered and when I got home it was sitting here. A monster 20 pound package from Boards and Bits!

So now I need your help BGG'ers. Without instruction from either Santa or Ulrich the elf as to whether it is safe to open before Christmas, tell me what you think I should do.

I will update when package is opened!

Thanks again Santa, whoever you are, you are the best!

EDIT

OK, you all talked me into it and all I have to say is

HOLY COW!!!

I figured there would be some packing in the box but it was packed full!!

1st out of the box

Very nice, been wanting to expand the base game for a long time.

Below that sat this

WOW!! Another expansion! But wait, there is one more beneath

OMG!! Seriously! This has got to be the greatest Santa ever....but wait...there is something else at the bottom of the box....

Jaw hits floor, wife has to pick it up for me. Thank you sooooo much to my Santa, you are awesome! There are so many hours of gaming goodness in here that you have made this holiday very memorable for my family and I.

Ok so for those not in the know, my Secret Santa has issued me all kinds of challenges. These have ranged from describing my want list, writing reviews, tracking down his true identity and playing dress up.

With each challenge, he upped the amount of items I was getting. He went all in and so did I. After completing the latest challenge (which basically consisted of me making a public fool of myself, but it was funny and my wife and I had a good time), my wife decided to let me open my presents! Did I mention my Secret Santa is all kinds of awesome?

Also, I told my Secret Santa to feel free to venture away from my wishlist. Surprises are fun, and surprises are good!

I wonder what magic is inside of here?

Right off the back, this is looking good. I've heard a little bit about this one and I'm definitely intrigued. We played tons of D&D in my formative years and this looks like it provide a similar experience in a more manageable time. Our old gaming group is actually looking to get a D&D session in over Christmas so this making the trip as well and will get a whirl. Thanks Santa!

Perfect pick once again! My wife isn't a huge gamer, but loves more traditional style card games like Battle Line, Tichu (thus the dress up challenge), Euchre, Haggis, etc. I think this is going to go over very well. We didn't have time to play a game tonight (she works early so she went to bed after dressing me up), but she said she wanted to try it tomorrow!

Excellent! I sold my first edition copy earlier this year and was going to pick this up as soon as I had a chance. This one was a big hit with several members of my regular group and they'll be happy to see it hit the table again. Very excited to see what's new/different in this edition!

My Secret Santa is a big Arkham Horror fan, so I wasn't too surprised to see this one arrive. I have to admit I don't know much about Cthulu mythos, but I have some friends who are nuts about it. I've always been interested in trying an Arkham game and now I get a chance! As an added bonus, my wife took one look at the package and actually said she's most interested to try this game! Did not see that one coming! Maybe Santa knows her better than I do! Thanks again Santa!

I host a semi-regular game group at my house once a month or so. The attendees are mostly friends and their spouses that I've known since High School or earlier. It's a relatively large group and we typically have 3-5 games going on at any one time. Big party games that are loud, noisy and obnoxious always do well, so how could I not want Pit?!?! This is going to be great. We've all known each other for 10-25+ years so there will be much heckling and fun when this comes out. Fantastic pick Santa!

So yeah, not to brag, but my Secret Santa is awesome. Cool guy too! I'd say he couldn't have done any better with his choices. And to top it off this was his first year! I really hope some awesome Karma swings his way! This was also my first year, and basically ensured I will always sign up for these gift exchanges. Thanks again Santa and Merry Christmas!

oh and Mr. Tichu says Hi!

(please click on this picture and thumb, I need 50 thumbs to successfully complete my last challenge!)

I learned something about Santa I didn’t know. He hates sleds. He hates sleds so much that he is willing to pay someone to deliver his presents. Well, his elf in the brown suit showed up this afternoon carrying a package for me. I resisted opening the present for 30 minutes and then tore into it. Santa is very generous providing me two great gifts.

I have wanted Merchant and Marauders since seeing it on a table last year at BGG.Con but I never got the chance to play it. Thanks to Santa I will finally get to play it.

Panic Station looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks Santa!

P.S. Wise choice farming out your delivery. Florida can be rough on a sled.

So, my Secret Santa didn't contact me at all. I got a little worried last week when I received a strange package unsolicited last week that wasn't a board game. Fortunately, today there was a lovely package from Funagain Games waiting for me when I got home.

Ankh-Morpork was my top choice on my list, mainly because my wife is a huge Terry Pratchett fan. Part of me really wanted the collector's edition, but I really couldn't justify spending $75 on it, nor did I expect anyone else to. So, I have the regular edition and I'm happy with it.

The other game in the package is Thunderstone. I've had Dragonspire and Doomgate Legion for a while now and I play the base set on Yucata on a regular basis, so getting more Thunderstone was a no brainer.

Thank you Secret Santa!

The BGG Secret Santa has quickly become one of my favorite holiday traditions. I love every aspect of it, especially reading through this GeekList. Another highlight is coming home from work and finding that enticing box with a shipping label that seems totally foreign to you. This was my experience last night and I've come to offer sincere thanks and holiday wishes to my generous and thoughtful Secret Santa.

Not only did I receive this latest edition of Dixit, Santa also sent along a copy of...The Resistance.

Christmastime means big game gatherings with my wife's family - she's the youngest of 10 siblings. Dixit Odyssey and The Resistance are perfect large group, large laughter games. I can't wait to bust them out.

Thanks again, Santa.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the good people of BGG!

I gots me a Secret Santa package! A bunch of boxes from Amazon (and Amazon third party sellers) arrived today for various kids' Christmas presents, and in amongst them was one from TimeWellSpent...

Which was surprising, as I have no games ordered. My Secret Santa had warned me (in Polish!) that a package was on its way, but I didn't expect it this quickly TimeWellSpent rocks for BGG Secret Santa - I used them myself last year.

Inside were two games I've been really keen to get a hold of, but just haven't had a chance. First off, Gears of War! No-one in my regular game group owns it that I know of, and it should fit some of us nicely.

Secondly, tucked under it, was a nice yellow square box... Haba!

Monza - I just haven't placed a big game order since I heard about this game, but I think my kids, especially my 3 year old car-crazy son, will love it. The two of them get a *lot* of pleasure out of gaming with me, and I do with them, even if the youngest gets a little frustrated at times with how long games take to play.

Secret Santa, thank you very much for the kind gifts. This is a great pair of gifts for my current gaming style.

Thank you Secret Santa!
Looking forward to busting this one open; now I just need a few more people to play with.

Thanks to Milsims, too. Great support of this exchange in Australia.

I received a package yesterday from my Not-so-secret-anymore Santa.

Underneath a set of FFG dice & some packs of Arkham Horror art sleeves was a nice new copy of Fauna. A late addition to my wishlist, this should be a lot of fun to play with the family.

Thanks Ben. I mean Santa

(and thanks for the book you sent last week)

Edit: That seems an appropriate entry that I've appeared under hey Santa

Well the doorbell rang at 9.00 am. What could it be? Well that often doesn't the doorbell ring. So there was the delivery guy ... with a cartridge

And a package from The Game Freak! Yes it was from my SSS (Singapor-ese/ian?? Secret Santa)!

I got my - sick - daughter to find out if the gift was wrapped. It was! With a nice card from my SSS.

Nice timing SSS, this weekend we celebrate Sinterklaas, so I'll wait till this weekend to open up the present and update over here.

All the way from Singapore, nice. Thank U so much SSS!

Have a nice last month of the year, and maybe U got your present already, saw some entries from Singapore yesterday. HAve fun.

Well and now order asap for my target, at the other end of the world, even beyond Singapore ...., but it's still no Christmas

Have fun U all!

This is what was for me in de "zak van Sinterklaas".

After unwrapping I had this:

(just the game .... )

Well, maybe this picture is better ....

In the meantime I have send my silent target his present(s). One of it was on pre-order ... He is active on the site so I'm curious if he will post ...

Woohoo One great game (hopefully) added to my collection thanks to Secret Santa!

My SS wrote me last monday that my gift is on the way, and added that it's coming from Italy. Considering that I was sure it would arrive last week. But guess what, it didn't My boyfriend teased me that he had hidden it, but I knew he must love me enough to not be so evil, and I guess he wasn't, 'cause my package was waiting outside when I got home from work today.

I ran upstairs and opened it immediately and inside I found my most wished game (wasn't wrapped so no problem with waiting ):

Thank you so much Secret Santa (I hope I already guessed where you come from ninja )!!! We'll make sure to give a try later today and I'll let you know how it goes. I'm pretty sure that it'll be a great hit!

Thank you so so so so much Hope you get some great gifts too!

Edit: I must also add that my SS is so awesome that he's gonna send another little package from his/her place with some Cadbury chocolate which is my boyfriend's favourite, but isn't available to buy in Slovenia. You can now clearly see that I was extremly good in 2011

Edit #2: This week I received another box directly from my santa

and yesterday I opened the present and inside was Pirates & Plunder, a game just like Carc, which is still my favourite, so it was a great pick. So, as you can see, I had an amazing santa and a great Christmas!
Thanks again, Jon!

I arrived home last night to a huge package on my front porch. Inside was Earth Reborn, complete with printouts of most of the 3-4 player scenarios! I'm really excited to get this one both to the table and the painting bench

EDIT:

Santa went way over the top this year. I arrived home to find another (!) package. Inside was a pile of delicious chocolate and another game:

I just about to dig into this one on Yucata.de. Now, I'm looking forward to getting it to the table with my wife, too

Thank you so much for your generosity, Santa!

PS. I think I have your secret identity figured out, but am not sure. You were very tricky sending items from two different states

Package arrived! I cannot open it until I get home for lunch because the wife wants to be there too. Excited!

YAY! Just what I wanted!

Also another high desire of mine -

Unfortunately BSG was damaged in shipping. I know what game store this came from, so I contacted them for a replacement. I'll keep this post updated with what happens! Worst case scenario, the damage isn't too bad.

-----

UPDATE:

Tracy at Fairplay Games was awesome and helped me figure this all out. BSG is heading back to the store and I'm getting a replacement. But since they're out of BSG, I'm getting

THANK YOU SANTA. I worked everything out, and I hope it's ok with you.

In the meantime, I'm the Chosen One so I'm going to get BSG after all!!
