2011 Edition of Look What My Secret Santa sent me...
Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!
I can see my house from here!
ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:
I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.
Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!
Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.
In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.
Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...
I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.
To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:
does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:
Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011
Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010
Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:
This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes
Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes
IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.
A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.
Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.
If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:
I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!
Yesterday I got a note from the post office that a package was waiting for me. I picked it up today, and when I opened it found an envelope with a mysterious spider seal and two unwrapped games.
Yea! That saved me the agony of deciding whether to open them right away or wait until Christmas eve.
One of the games is Ghost Stories, which I had played with friends a few times but not as often as I would like. (Thank you, Santa!) I've been looking forward to trying this out solo.
The other is a title I haven't heard of before … but I'll post that as a separate item (I think that's how this list works.)
(Continuing from item 657)
The other I got is a title I haven't heard of before and I was surprised (shocked, actually) to find it not listed in my friend's collection who has over 500 games. I'm really looking forward to bringing this out to my gaming groups to see how well it's received.
Wow! Got an amazing gift from an anonymous Santa. Hope he's going to reveal himself in order for me to thank him/her. On top of this game I got a copy of Z-Man Batt'l Kha'os.
Very cool Christmas.
Happy Christmas to you all!
I just received this package from Troll & Toad. There was a sticker enclosed which said "From your BGG Secret Santa". I'm not sure if this is from the regular or wargame BGG list, but I'm grateful either way.

Just got my Secret Santa gift today, an expansion I was really looking forward to getting Thanks Santa You are the best, and also got a gift not on my wishlist:
A very unexpected but pleasant surprise, you are the best Santa I can't say that enough... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! I can't wait to play both of these games
Just received my gift!
Came in a heavy box. Opened it up and it contains 2 games!
Dragonspire and LOTR:TCG!
Wohoo!!! 2 games high on my wishlist! Thanks Santa!!!
Thank you. My Secret Santa was humorous in his/her emails AND sent a nice package of presents.
Ghost Stories: Black Secret
High Noon Saloon
Mansions of Madness: ‘Til Death Do Us Part
Quest: A Time of Heroes
My daughter was gleaming as she watched me open the package! I enjoyed watching her joy.
In return, according to a tracking number, I hope I am making someone else this happy very soon.
My Secret Santa was awesome this year. This is the first year I actually heard from my Santa and it made the whole process much more fun. I was even inspired to harrass and taunt my target. Hopefully he had fun too.
So this is what I knew after waiting 16 days!! My gift was coming all the way from Germany and that it hadn't been posted as a gift on this geeklist. I spent Monday going through the 25 pages of Secret Santa gifts. Surprisingly most of the items on my wishlist had not yet been gifted. So I still didn't have much of a clue. I was thinking that I would receive a game that came out at Essen.
In addition to going through the geeklist, I also took some time to make some holiday cookies, Dark Chocolate Cranberry. I know they look a little like reindeer turds, but they taste good.
Seems like the bad weather started to move into New Mexico as soon as my gift crossed the border. Usually it is pretty dry until sometime in January. But today, the sky was bright blue and the snow started to melt. I knew today was going to be the day.
You can tell I like German culture, just look at my two rug rats, Raven & Frosty.
They weren't too pleased when the postman showed up. Here they are ready to strike.
After surviving the barking frenzy, a huge rectangluar package was carted into the house. I was shocked at the size of the box and I still had no clue what was in it.
Thinking to add to the holiday spirit, I decided to adorn the gift with Xmas themed dog toys.
But my dogs are not too keen on sharing their toys. Little stinkers.
Needless to say, when I opened the box, I was shocked. This item is hard to get in the US and when you can get it, it usually has damage to the box. So I am now the proud owner of a pristine Antiquity.
I've only played this once, but it is a great game. I am a big fan of Splotter Spellen games and this is one that has eluded me for years. It will be added to my collection in the living room where majority of my prized games are displayed. I also have a couple of closets that store games as well. I'm a collector as well as a player.
Thank you Secret Santa for such a great gift and for a fun experience this year. Hope your holidays are as filled with magic as you have made mine.
Once again I am overwhelmed at the community here on the Geek. My Santa came through in a big way. Firstly I will say I was a bit tardy on filling out this geeklist but in our defense we were at WinterCon last weekend and did notify Santa in our profile.
Cutting to the chase......
We opened a big package and found a nice letter letting us know Santa had been doing her research. The biggest excitement came from our daughter Lily upon finding out that one of Santa's little helpers had included 2 Mega-Princess books for her. (And a game)
For us Santa selected Pick & Pack which appears light fun for the two of us while we try to wait on opening the big gift until Christmas.
After Christmas(or when we have decided we can wait no longer) we will update this post with the big one.
Thank you Santa and Daughter
Dave (Husband of Wonderwitch)
I'm late to report my good fortunes but it came it two seperate boxes and I was holding out for a third
I was also sent Victory & Honor which I'm very much looking forward to breaking out at lunch.
Thank you so so much.
Got Revolution, which I have been interested in trying out, along with several things I've never heard of:
Should I be scared my SS is into Zombies so much??
And a Mensa Number Puzzles game that I am not sure I'll ever solve! (good thing the answers are in the back, lol)
Lots of card games for me.

I live my life in growing orbits, which move out over the things of the world. Perhaps I can never achieve the last, but that will be my attempt.
Yay! Thank you for another addition to my first gift of Mondo!
Mondo Micro!!!! And a great Meeple Christmas card.
Thank you so much my (not so secret) Secret Santa!!!
Dear Little Scotty,
After much consideration and debate in the North Pole Committee to Differentiate Good Little Boys and Girls From Bad Little Girls and Boys we are pleased to announce that you have, by the skin of your teeth, made the Good Little Boys List. Congratulations!
Accordingly, gifts from your "What I Want for Christmas" list have been dispatched from the North Pole and should arrive within 48 hours. We hope you enjoy your holiday season and that you and your family have a prosperous and happy 2012.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
WOW! I mean..... WOW!!!
I must have been really good. Santa generously delivered!
I was welcomed to a nice box on my doorstep today! (after a long day at the office). I was with my daughter at the time, and she was so excited to open it. I instantly recognized Quarriors! showing through the packing shells. Further digging revealed Quarriors! Rise of the Demons, Panic Station, and A Few Acres of Snow. Well...the pictures tell it better. THANK YOU SANTA! YOU REALLY OUTDID YOURSELF!!!! I REALLY LOVE MY GIFTS AND CAN'T WAIT TO GET THEM TO THE TABLE!
Happy Holidays to you Secret Santa!
Thank you, Secret Santa!!
A delightfully large box arrived on my doorstep yesterday. Surprise!! I opened it and found a nicely wrapped present and a great card. (Those folks at Miniature Market really know how to take care of BGG Secret Santa gifts!)
I was thrilled to unwrap...
Sweet! I can't wait to play it with my college kids when they get home this week and next. And then my wife said that she thought it looked interesting! (If she starts playing it, you get SO many extra points!)
But then -- DOUBLE SURPRISE -- something else lurked in the peanuts! I pulled out a smaller box with a nice weight and tore through the wrapping paper to find...
Whee!!! Exactly the game I wanted for evenings with my boardgame-loving 7 year-old!!!!
Thank you, Secret Santa, for a wonderful jump-start to my holiday. I hope your SS took awesome care of you, too!!

When I got home yesterday evening I found a package for me and I new that could be only from my Secret Santa .
Inside was a nice wrapped 7 Wonder and luckely amazon gave me a clue that I have not rack one's brain what it would be.
An exelent Choice. I played this game a couple of times this year and realy love it.
Now it can wait for X-mas (I heard to open a Present could be ending in bad luck and I would deffently not risk this )
Thank You Very much My nice polish not so secret anymore Santa

On the First of December
All over the 'Geek
A lot was stirring
So many topics on which to speak
When into my inbox
A missive arrived
From Santa it was
It filled me with pride
For this year, my Santa
Had decided to tell
Of things that would happen
That all would be well
Ho Ho Ho...
Stekkjastaur is on his way with your gift.. he say's it will take him maybe 3 days on his stiff legs.
I hope you enjoy your gift
Your Secret Santa...
Then, on the sixth of December,
I looked in the mailbox,
To find a ticket to a tome
Well, tome might be wrong,
Though it helped with the rhyme,
A package at the post office
I checked the watch, there was time,
To get there before my appointment,
To buy a comfy chair,
So off we went to the post office
To pick it up there,
Opening the cardboard,
A message I found,
From Santa, no less,
My gamer heart took a bound,
Then emptying the box,
Not one, but two packages,
My loot this year, shocks
Inspecting the wrapping closer,
I immediately knew,
No snap decision for me,
Trust the dice I would have to do:
Their sentiment was clear,
And I was elated,
My anxiousness about their contents,
Was about to be abated,
So, with a fury,
The wrapping I gripped,
Making sure not to hurt the contents,
Off it got ripped,
At last they were there,
Their contents revealed,
And boy, oh boy, I must say,
It surely appealed!
Looking further at the evidence,
It soon, to me, was clear,
That Santa, this year, comes from Iceland,
From where he brought me good cheer.
Before I had time to investigate further,
A message arrived, an appeal,
My santa, on his own had decided,
His true identity to reveal:
I saw you picked up your package today. I hope everything arrived in a good condition and the packages are shiny and will look nice under your tree.
Congratulations on your marriage this summer, may the future hold many more happy moments for you two.
Yours (not so secret santa anymore),
My rhyme I will here and now end,
The better, my honor to defend,
As language and linguistics is not my forte
I believe I have acquitted myself equitably enough...
Many thanks to my Secret Santa;

Santa actually delivered a fun-filled box a couple days ago, but I hadn't gotten time to post. Pictures will be forthcoming, but I didn't want to delay any further in saying: thank you, thank you, thank you, Santa!
My husband and I were working at home when the doorbell rang. I bounded to the door to see the delivery truck pulling away and a pair of Amazon boxes waiting on the stoop. I tore into the top one to find the legos I had ordered for our son. I opened the second one (carefully hiding the contents from my husband in case it was one of the things I had ordered for him). Lo and behold, though, what was inside the box was *not* something I had ordered. I looked up and said: "I didn't order this."
I handed him the box, wondering if I had accidentally opened something he had sent. As he peeked inside, I said, "It must be from my secret Santa!" He grinned and tried to take the box away, saying I'd have to wait until Christmas, but I wrested the cardboard from him, defiantly declaring that clearly if Santa expected me to wait, the contents would be wrapped. Surely this was a sign that Santa expected us to enjoy the holiday season by playing our new games.
We are very excited to add Ticket to Ride: Asia and
Ticket to Ride: 1910 Expansion
to our collection. Hopefully we'll get our first plays in this weekend. Thank you, Santa!

Yay, my package arrived today!
And inside it four!! presents, my SS truly went above and beyond call of duty.
Now I just have to battle myself (and my wife) to keep myself from opening these before christmas! I'm not very optimistic that I can do that
Thank you Santa!
EDIT: Although the letter, in which the card came, also contained english rules for two games, so I'm pretty sure at least those two are in the packages
EDIT: Well... I managed to keep myself from opening the packages for a few hours at least. And inside I found some euro goodness in the form of Troyes and two other games, Justinian and Auf der Pirsch, which I've never heard of, but both looked very intriguing. Good small card games are always welcome as we usually have some (usually Wizard) with us when we go on trips. Now I just can't wait to get these to the table. Thanks again, Santa!
EDIT: Oh yeah, and in the fourth package there was some Beethoven tea! Nice, I can sip that while optimizing my meeple placement!
My Secret Santa is the best!
Yesterday morning - St. Nicholas' Day - I went over to make my neighbour a present of some sweets because they keep on accepting parcels for us when we are away. And guess what they had in return for me? YES, my secret santa present!
I argued to myself that being a good boy this year I deserve a present for St. Nicholas' Day and opened it. Inside I found a gem of a game: Fury of Dracula! One of those games that I put on my wishlist ages ago and nearly forgot I had it on there at all. Holding it in my hands and rummaging through the box content all the good reasons to put it there came back to me. This will be THE perfect game for the people I usually play with. Not to forget myself of course. I can´t wait to play!
Dear Santa: many, many thanks for finding this perfect present for me! I wish you and your elves... ehm... family all the best for the holidays and the new year to come. Merry Christmas from (already snowy) Bavaria!
Our Secret Santa was very Secret this year.
All was very quiet for a while…well except for the extreme taunting I had been up to with my target…that is until…December 1st.
On December 1st, I received an email that said our package was on the way.
Well, somehow I knew this would be my only chance to ask the big guy a few questions that I have had about Santa for many years.
I know Santa is a busy guy…but I decided to go for it.
Here is what I asked Santa:
It's so good to hear you are alive and real.
We are so very excited to hear from you.
I have a few questions?
1. Do you prefer cookies and milk or fruitcake and egg nog?
2. Are you a Ninja?cool
3. Should we light a fire in our fireplace on Christmas Eve or does that hurt?
4. Did you like our Spongebob video?arrrh
5. Are you from Taiwan?whistle
6. Does Rudolph really exist and does he have a glowing nose...if so I would like to borrow him for some tests?
7. Have you ever sat on an Elf by accident?
8. Are polar bears a nuisance up there or is it too warm in Taiwan?whistle
9. Have you ever discovered things in your beard, months later?
10. Are these questions turning us into bad little boys and girls? blush
These are just questions we have wondered for many years.
We love you Secret Santa,
James and Holly Barnes
The hints about Taiwan are because we think that is where he/she is from.
My wife and I every year beginning after Thanksgiving weekend are utterly swamped with performances and concerts.
After a particularly heavy day of teaching and conducting for my high school band concert, we came home to a package on our porch.
We both looked at each other and just knew it had to be from the one…the only…Super Awesome Secret Santa!!!
The next thing that happened was…my wife shot out of the car…grabbed the package…unlocked the front door and ran inside.
All the while…I am thinking…well I guess that’s that…I will have to wait until Christmas Day now.
I continue to unload the car, since I had a perishable platter of leftover party goodies from the concert reception.
I walk inside and take a look at my surroundings.
To my wonder…my wife had the Christmas Tree all lit up…she had two glasses of root beer prepared and she grabbed the platter from me and set it on our table by the tree.
The package was just there…under the tree.
Well…I didn’t want to get my hopes up…
After a few minutes of snacking on the party favors, she asked me a simple question.
Do you think it feels like Christmas enough to open Secret Santa’s gift now?
I didn’t waste one second…
I grabbed the package and quickly tore into the box.
(I must at this point apologize to my most wonderful Secret Santa; for I know it isn’t right to open before Christmas Day…but…I hope you can forgive me.)
It was perfect Secret Santa…absolutely perfect!
We have already had a wonderful Christmas and it is all thanks to you!
There are so many great games available today that I really had no idea what my Secret Santa might choose for me.
My most awesome and very wise and very Secret Santa chose the Princes of Machu Pichu.
A perfect choice for my wife and I…and one I know we will continue to play for years to come.
We will always remember your gift and think of you.
Thank you Secret Santa!
We hope your Secret Santa is as Fantastic and Wonderful as you are to us!
Happy Holidays, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, tet, and Festivus to you and yours!
