Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

Two games from my wishlist!

Quarriors!

Been wanting to try this since my buddy Rich did a segment highlighting this on Attack of the Show.

and

JAB: Realtime Boxing

Yay! Anything to support my love of combat sports.

Plus

Some Earl Grey tea to enjoy while I read...

...a copy of The Hunger Games! I borrowed the trilogy from Rich last year (funny how he comes up twice in this GeekList) and loved it, so I'm excited to get my own copy to re-read while I await the release of the first movie.

Thank you so much, Santa! What a generous set of gifts. And, yes, the card made me laugh out loud. laugh Merry Christmas!

This morning began with cold and foggy blanket tossed over the roads.I arrived at work after a 5 day vacation. There was a small package whose mailing label hinted at an address near a warmmm South American jungle(Amazon) I knew Secret Santa,
who has been very quiet this month, must have had a hand in it.

It came from the ID!
the game mechanic of card sets and hand management faded behind the
images of the cards- I had to have them.
Listed as 1- 2 players , maybe solo play is its destiny here unless you dare?

I'm looking for more citizens of Carcassonne to play with regularly-
this is my quest -this is my impossible? dream.
The expansion I hope will open doors to this road (or city, abbey, river).

Later at the end of the work day another package arrived, as foretold by a message in the first. The second was larger!

As I opened it I knew Secret Santa had checked my list well. After coming across the description of this game on BGG several months ago I knew this was something I could sink my teeth into and get my hands dirty with.

Something as creative as Dixit but restrained into a narrower field.
Guessing the correct first line of a novel from several genres ("classics, children's, fiction/non-fiction, romance and mystery/sci-fi/horror").

I'm calling out to gamers in my area of Northern California
from: Elk Grove to Roseville & Davis to Folsom
If this game (Liebrary) appeals to you then please
fire off a Geek Mail to me. I'm looking for players.

I had an awesome time both being Santa and a target.

I had posted a note in my profile that let Santa know that I like surprises and he took advantage of this! I received a handwritten post card from (I think) Norway. What a nice surprise! Then I got a card that was post marked from Columbus (two hours away) with the same handwriting! The card had cardinals on it which strangely matched the decorations on our dining table. Inside the card asked if Santa was skulking around my neighborhood. Maybe he was.... ninja

After waiting an eternity, I received a geekmail from Santa letting me know that my package would arrive soon. He also let me know that he sent another card from the middle east that has not yet arrived. I was on vacation starting Monday. So I got up early and waited for the mail!! There was a package but it was addressed to my husband. He had already told me that he was waiting on gifts for me so I put the package in his office and decided I would have to keep waiting!

That night, Shayne got home from work and we ate dinner and watched some TV. Randomly during a commercial, he turns to me and says, "So, your Secret Santa Geekmailed me". I said what!? wow He said and he sent me a tracking number and I checked the tracking number. I was excited... would he tell me when my package arrived!? Shayne then told me that the tracking number said that package arrived that day. I was sad and confused, the package had NOT arrived that day. Then he says, "The package was addressed to me". OOOOO Tricky surprise Santa!

Shayne laughed and laughed and said he wished I could have seen the look on my face. Shayne and Santa definitely worked together to surprise me! Many many thanks for the surprises and the gifts!!

Thanks a bunch!!

My Secret Santa ROCKS! I received my package today and excitedly opened it. I found nestled away within its depths a brand new copy of Star Trek Fleet Captains! Within a half hour my younger brother and I were playing a match on the dining room table.

Also hidden within the box was a copy of a game I've wanted for several years now, Thebes! And to top it off I got a Spin 4 It device taped just on the inside of the box.

Secret Santa...you are the best!!!!!!!

Dear Every Single BGG Secret Santa to Date,

Better luck next year, y'all - cuz my Santa is hands down
THE BEST SANTA EVER!

...or ought I say, the most Nefarious?

Not only did she generously surprise me with a buttery cat ray of my very own, but Miss Claus (and yes, I've decided that due to the delightful giftwrap job, box decor and insight on the feminine mystique, my Santa's either a Gamegal -or- ranks high up there on the Geeklist of Mysteriously Cool and Sensitive-yet-not-in-a-Creepy-Way Gameboys) introduced me to Shokoba, a play that employs my favorite mechanic: sparkly bits! There was also a Wonders-ful promo. Ooh, and an adorable Sock Monkey with pieces of flair meeple I still have one last game box that I'm saving til Christmas. Thankfully, Santa understood I was good all year long and well, that was long enuf to wait to open gifts!

*happy sigh*

Best Santa Ever!

I hope you'll Geekmail me so I can thank you personally laugh

Merry Christmas & God bless us, everyone!

My Secret Santa wrote me the most hilarious things you can imagine. He convinced me that my presents were going to be a 6 sided die and a pack of playing cards with some unusual but convincing arguments. Then, a Melvin's song appeard at my inbox (I had never heard of them, sounds like a mix between Nevermore and old Paradise Lost.) Things were going great, but then I had to forget about BoardGameGeek, games, music and everything else, because I was getting married! A little stressed I was focused only on that, the ceremony, the party and a well deserved vacation.

I was in my honeymoon spending the best days of my life 'til now. Sun, a warm sea in the caribean shores, you know, perfect. Paradise.

When we were running out of time, preparing the bags to return home, I was crying inside. It was time to return to the real world.

Well, back to Chile, a lot of work, missing that days... BUT... something changed. I received a call from home, telling me that there was a surprise for me beneath the Christmas tree. That day it was impossible to get back home quickly and I was there like 11PM. When I saw that BIG box, I couldn't believe my eyes...

Open it! Open it!
My wife was yelling super-excited, but I was nervous because of the wedding, the trip, and the work again here I completely forgot about Secret Santa and I was not expecting a package.

I opened the box, and it was shocking.

FIRST: My dear Secret Santa really looked at my wishlist.
SECOND: Shipping to Chile IS expensive. So I was expecting a card game or something like that.
THIRD: Oh boy, it was amazing.
FOURTH: Speechless.

Inside the box was Space Alert! Just that? NOOOOOOO!!! It was also Doge (you knew I'm a sucker for Goldsieber games, right?) and Supernova (I was waiting for this game since it was announced!)

My face got a smile that I can't erase. I was having hard times here, with a huge load of work, and all the tiredness was gone. HEY! What's this? There was something extra there... A very cryptic message from Santa, a CD of KARP and the lyrics to sing along. So you really looked at my Iron Maiden microbadge, right? A-MA-ZING!!!!!!!

I can't be more happy right now. I'm really really happy, you made my day, my week and if I haven't get married I would say my year.

Did you played at that band? Sounds like a not very well known band, and maybe you have a history beneath it... Please, don't loose contact!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SANTA!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Happily gaming for 36 years!

First off, the game to the left isn't what Secret Santa gave me....my wife ensures every year that I don't know what's in the package and has it installed in a bunker behind barricades under the tree as we speak - so THANKYOU SECRET SANTA! Maybe next year I need to ask santa not to wrap it...but then I may not even get to pop the "mystery" box from amazon or where-ever...

No, the game at the left is why I love secret santa. It's not a great game, but it has the best components ever: The Dismembermen! Little swimmer guys whos limbs can be popped off as they are caught by the shark. My first Secret Santa sent several packages all nicely wrapped and on top of one was this lego Shark and a note saying that this had to go with the present. Upon opening I discovered this game and a nice card drawn by santa's young son. I love how secret santa bring out the fun in giving like no other event that I've participated in and I'll be back every year! For my part, I give Get Bit along with one special game as sort of a reminder of my first Secret Santa!

This is a kind of awkward situation,
but my presents arrived in time.
Here is the story about it.
------------------------------------------------------------

I don´t believe it made it in time, since my Secret Santa was very silent, until very recently. He just gave me a short message, where he was sorry for the delay, and that i am not forgotten.

Shortly afterwards, around 3 days ago, he send me a message, that the package is on its way to me and even gave me a tracking number.

I was kinda nervous, when i saw that the package is coming from the US,
(I had a very bad experience about shipping cost and tax before)
and not sure if it´ll make it in time to me, since i am going to my parents tommorrow for Christmas.

On the end of the next day it already arrived in Germany, which i was very surprised of, but noticed, that it was send via express mail.

I got a ring from the post mail today and was anxious, that its finally arriving, when he told me, that i had to pay him around 23Euro approx 30 Us Dollars, for taxes....! shake

You can probably imagine, what face i made when he told me. Although i am a little bit short on cash, because i am a student and it is before christmas, i had just enough to get it nonetheless.

I had to open the package, to make sure everything was undamaged and what exactly was costing that much, that i had to pay so much for it in taxes.

In there I found Innovation, but also

and underneath them a copy of

which is very hard to get here. Also one more party game, which i can play with my friends, since i am the game provider of our group.

EDIT:
I am happy about the choices, and since Santa helped me out in my misery i am very happy.

Now to get the games open and friends to play these games with :-)

Thanks a lot Santa thumbsup

First thing I see in the Secret Santa box is a book called Estonia at a Glance, and this cool looking little Estonian game.

I am completely blown away!

As reported here, I've already opened Urban Sprawl from a package that arrived before Thanksgiving (which my lovely wife hid from me until a couple of weeks ago.)

And now it turns out she's even more clever than I thought! (I knew this, actually. She'll always be more clever than I'll ever think... Just the way it is, guys. Accept it now.)

There was a second game in the box - the high on my wishlist Eminent Domain

Thank you thank you and THANK YOU again, Santa. Your amazing generosity has humbled me and set the standard for my future Secret Santa efforts!

A parcel arrived from Madrid today. I took off the outer paper to reveal a two tone blue polka dotted box. As I am not certain how wrapped or unwrapped the content is, I will leave it as it is until Christmas and report back.

Thank you very much

The Christmas morning update:

There were two wrapped gifts plus a card in the parcel.

The first was Dixit Odyssey

and the second was a travel edition of Abalone, a game which I have not played in a very long time.

Thank you again for the games and the holiday wishes.

A nice sized box arrived last week. There were four wrapped packages inside so each member of the family got to open one.

First up was Horse Fair Card Game. Ah Knizia, a nice rating on this little game. I'm sure this will be fun to play with my daughter. Oooo, little horses!

Next to be opened was Guillotine. Cool. I've thrifted this many times, but traded or given each one away thinking 'I'll thrift another one soon.' Eventually the thrift ride ended. Now that I have this one I'm sure I'll start seeing them in the thrifts again.

Working our way up in size we got to RattleSnake. Fun magnets. This is a lot like another game I have, Action Attraction. RattleSnake has the benefit of having a die and a board without wells for magnet placement. This will be fun with the children.

The last and biggest box was The Magic Labyrinth. More magnets! A friend showed me this game a few years ago at a local game night. I immediately added it to my wishlist. I'm sure this will get a lot of plays at our house.

Thank you so much Santa. These games should see a lot of action at our house.

---

Edit to add a photo of the nice wrap job on the games.

I went out to check the mail this morning and there was a big box on the porch! When I saw that it was addressed to "Settlerdave" I knew my Secret Santa package had arrived! Opening the box revealed three beautifully wrapped presents:

Given the timing of their arrival, I think I will actually try to wait this year and open these on Christmas Eve with my other presents. (No guarantees, though! devil) I will update with the details when I do get to unwrap them.

Update:

My packages have been opened to reveal:

Tribune: Primus Inter Pares
Tribune Expansion
The Battle for Hill 218

I had previously owned Tribune: Primus Inter Pares, but sold it prior to a move two years ago—a decision that I have regretted ever since. Now, thanks to my Secret Santa, I have it again along with the expansion!

Thank you, Secret Santa!
