Just added a new Secret Santa Poll . Head over to [geekurl=http://boardgamegeek.com/article/7924278#7924278]Week 2 Secret Santa Poll[/geekurl] to see how everyone is faring thus far in this year's event. And of course, add your votes!

ALRIGHT! It is time once again for the annual Secret Santa List, this time the 2011 Edition. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

In years past this list has been heavily monitored as the gifting season approaches and I am sure the same will hold true this year.

Last year there were 1,437 unique entries spread over 58 pages. I'm curious to see how huge it grows this year. As a tip - if you go looking through the previous years' lists, please be mindful of which year you are actually posting your gift to. There have been multiple occasions of people posting a gift from the current year on the previous year's list. That would likely diminish the chances of your Secret Santa getting around to seeing it...

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

does a superb job using the data from this list to create his great statistical look at the hottest gifts of the season. This year's version of his list is located at:

Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2011

Last year: Most Popular Secret Santa Games of 2010

Want some for your stocking? Simon also runs a Secret Santa Sweepstakes which is located at:

This year: 2011 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

Last year: 2010 Secret Santa Sweepstakes

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

I have NO IDEA how Santa pulled this off, but I received this in the mail today and it was totally worth the wait.

My Santa was a ninja: no word, no clue, no message had come my way since the program began in...late October? I had assumed my gift was being shipped across oceans (and deserts and veldts), as it was taking so long to get here. The sight of this game--which has very limited distribution--might have confirmed that fact, were it not for...

the call I got on Saturday from a major Korean FOGS, asking to confirm my address on behalf of my BGG Secret Santa. So my Santa had chosen a local source for his/her shopping. But when I checked the FOGS web site to see which of my wishlist games they had in stock, this was definitely not one of them.

Then today the game arrived. Complicating matters in my brain, the Korean FOGS had used a box from Lautapelit.fi to ship the game (I checked, they don't carry Epigo, either).

After a long wait, it was an utter shock and a thrill to find this, my most obscure and hard-to-get title from my wishlist, from BGG Santa.

Thank you / Komapsumnida / Kiitos, Santa! But...how did you do it?

Hey, hey, look what my Secret Santas sent me!
My original Secret Santa sent me a week ago a voucher of a web store. I'm not complaining, it's fine. It's still an effort to please a completely unknown guy in a small city. Thank you, True Secret Santa

But I didn't want to miss the 'surprise factor', so I gave my friend

the voucher code and a skimmed excerpt from my wishlist, asking him to please, please, choose the games for me. He did laugh

Thank you, both Santas! This is a great way to start the year, and so thinks my son

Wow! Talk about being blown away!

I heard nothing from my assigned Secret Santa, and nothing arrived in the mail. I thought I should report to Octavian, for future reference, but also told him that it was not necessary to assign my name to anyone else, that I would just consider myself a "giver only" this year, and I was fine with that.

Yesterday afternoon, I received a phone call from my favorite online game store, Time Well Spent, telling me that my BGG Secret Santa gift (Replacement SS) was ready to pick up. What a neat surprise! This morning, I had a GeekMail from Santa alerting me to the same thing. So, I visited TWS this morning and was shocked to see THREE games from my wishlist waiting for me!

In addition to RA, something I've heard about for a decade, but never played, there were Flash Point: Fire Rescue and Forbidden Island, two games I just added to my wishlist recently. Unbelievable!

Replacement Secret Santa, you went way above and beyond anything I would have expected from a regular-assigned Secret Santa. My family game group and I will enjoy many hours of gaming, as a result of your generosity. Thank you sincerely.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue

Forbidden Island

Sorry I'm posting so late. I did report on my profile getting these games but never updated here.

My S/S sent me this and some great explanations (via S/S geekmail) of how to play. I really appreciate the tutorial! (I wouldn't mind if you let me know who you are so I can geekmail you with any other questions I might have....)

I've only had a chance to play this online so far as I haven't had an opportunity yet to teach it to the family. Once I get my understanding a little more down, I hope to bring it out.

My S/S also sent me:

&

I have played both of these with my wife and younger son and really enjoyed the games.

Thanks to my S/S!

It takes a great deal of generosity to be a rSS, and mine still gave plenty of hilarious taunting during the past days!
Today, I got this from the post office.

I know basically nothing about this 2-player cardgame! Which is cool, I suppose Santa is giving me this because it recommends it and I love that he went the extra-mile to think about something I'ld like that wasn't on my wishlist.

On the other hand this one was rock solid on my wishlist! A glance at my ratings will tell how happy I was with getting this bad boy. devil

So, this year I had a secret, ninja, hidden, invisible Santa! Or in other words, I sat and waited and heard.......nothing. Until the last day of January, when my Secret Santa came out of hiding (presumably after the dogs and drivers sent out by Octavian had finally flushed him out of the undergrowth), to let me know he had very secretly run out of money and thus my gift was late.

Okay, well, manure occurs and all that. Better a late Santa who messed up, than a Santa who deliberately did not join in the spirit of things. So I waited some more. Then of course yesterday, being in a somewhat gloomy mood, I posted on the Santa cleanup thread, to ask if my Secret Santa could let me know when the parcel had been sent out. And as so often happened before in situations like this, when I got home I found a card from the post office: failed delivery for a parcel that needed to be signed for.

And thus tonight I wended my way over to the parcel office, to pick up my long awaited parcel: Android. By the feel of the box, I'm going to be spending quite a bit of time sorting this one out in it's component bits!

Thanks Santa!

Dear Santa,

Wow.

I arrived home last night to find your package and a very excited family waiting for me. I was surprised by the box's large size and immediately thought of Crokinole based on the box's weight. With the crowd gathered, I opened the top to find the packing perfect...

Starting at one edge, I plunged my hand in and brought forth:

Ora et Labora

Very Nice! This is a relatively new addition to my wishlist and I was immediately excited to try Uwe's creation, particularly as the rondel will be entirely new to us. However, in pulling this out, we'd revealed two more items in the box:

7 Wonders

7 Wonders: Leaders

Whoa! What a combination! This is a game so many people had been talking about and now I could get the whole experience given your generosity of game + expansion. My wife immediately took this away from me and started looking it over (we homeschool and I could see the gears start turning...)

I started to push the shipping box aside to make some room to open the games up, but wait... it's still heavy... and there was still more!

Tucked down at the bottom and filling the giant box edge to edge I found to my delight:

Twilight Imperium (Third Edition)

AMAZING! Gosh, Santa, this is beyond generous. When my kids saw all the wonderful units on the back of the box they began jumping around the room. Bedtime was a bit excitable, but we all awoke early this morning and they started punching the fighters while I started to marvel at the strategy options.

Thank you so much for such a great multi-dimensional package:

These gifts will give us many hours of special times with our family and friends. I feel I'm a very fortunate boy this year, indeed.

-- Rick

Thank you Substitute Secret Santa. I received a large box from CoolstuffInc on Friday. I first thought it may have been a box of diapers but the Coolsutffinc does not sell diapers. I don’t know what I pulled out first it was all a gaming hazy blur but I ended up with Pandemic: On the Brink, Claustrophobia and Railways of the World. Thank you for your generosity. Here is a picture of all the games and one where I did not know which to play first so I just added pieces from all the games.

WoW! What a great surprise to come home from 12 hours of work to find a surprise package when I got home! My Secret Santa is the best, this I know. He (or she) initially sent a package in December that never was received and has been battling to make everything right. Bless his (or her) heart, he (or she) did it! I am very excited to play this game, one that I have not seen hit the tables and looks to have a great complexity to it! To top it all off, he included 4 packages of
for my boys! He has a heart of gold, and the letter that came with it broke my heart. Bless you Secret Santa. Bless you and thank you from my whole family.

Best. Santa. EVER.

My first Santa took an early vacation and unfortunately I did not receive anything. A new Santa stepped forward to save the holidays and all I can say is... BEST SANTA EVER!

Not only did I get Factory Fun, I also got Yspahan!
Both of these games were VERY high on my wishlist.

But that isn't everything... a note from Santa tells me that isn't the end of it and that there is another package on it's way with another FOUR items, including something that is a MUST HAVE from my wishlist!
I cannot begin to thank you enough Santa, you rock my world!

UPDATE

Secret Santa totally outdid them-self this year.
This morning FedEx arrived with a massive box. When I opened it up there was a nice "Happy Howldays" card and lots of bubble wrap. After pulling everything out... I was speechless.

First I pulled out
Power Grid: The First Sparks
then Power Grid: Russia & Japan
then Urban Sprawl
and finally Hart an der Grenze.

(sorry for the terrible quality)

Best Christmas/Birthday EVER!

I love you SS, you are super-amazing!

Edit:
I'd like to point out that all of these games were 1 - Must Have on my wishlist except for two, which were 2 - Love to Have. Santa picked amazing games for me!

Valentine's Day (ok 3 days after) is a lot better timeframe than Easter.
Tiny bit of backstory to make that make sense, last year I was the last person to get games from Secret Santa, but it was all worth it in the end, as Santa was immensely generous.

So as Christmas drew near and nothing showed up, I was thinking "Here we go again!" I came home on Christmas night and found a GM from Santa, saying he had some delays, but was taking care of things. Then February rolled around, so I inquired about things with Octavian. Got a response on Thursday Feb 16th. Turns out my first replacement had something come up, (hey, life happens, no harm done), so I had a second and games were on the way.

Today (Friday), I hear the doorbell ring, and there are 2 packages on my doorstep from Amazon. I figure it's something my mom ordered, but then I see my name on both of the boxes, and they're heavy!

I break out the pocket knife and open the boxes to find them wrapped with a little card on each one saying "Enjoy! From Your 2nd Secret Santa"

The small box has one game, a little bit long and flat, so I take that out but leave it wrapped. The bigger box has two games roughly that Ticket to Ride box size. I open one of the bigger boxes and find Dominion: Hinterlands. Awesome, it's the expansion I need to complete things for now, still need to get sleeves though (not Santa's fault, just my own pickiness). I know this one will get played, as I've played a bunch on Isotropic.

The next big box contained Ascending Empires. I love Catacombs, and I love sic-fi games, so this seems to be a great fit. I've heard a lot of good things, and look forward to playing this one.

That smaller box that I mentioned early was the true surprise - Twilight Struggle. I've really enjoyed 1960:Making of the President, but the guy I play with and I are both looking for something with even more tension. I was born right at the end of the Cold War, so I don't have a full appreciation for the tension, but I've heard it's an amazing design, and a great game, so this will get played. It might be a bit, since I don't play 2 player games often, but I'll get it to the table eventually.

Big Thank-you to Secret Santa and BGG for taking care of things. I know it's odd to be on the "snub" list two years running. By snub I mean needing a replacement Santa.

The JOY of Secret Santa is in the giving. I wish more people understood that. For more on gaming, I hope you'll visit my blog all about games. It's been linked to a few times on Dicetowernews, so you know it's good stuff. bitsofboardgames.blogspot.com

Thanks for reading. Hopefully I make a post like this in December 2012 and not in early 2013!

Looking at the mail table last night, I noticed an item in shrink buried in with the rest of the mail. Hmm, looks like game components, I thought.

Yep- Catan Oil Springs, a scenario that I've been interested in playing.

I remember having it in my cart on Amazon a few weeks ago, but remembered that I never pulled the trigger. I asked my wife where it came from- she said she didn't order it, but that the postman had given it to her that morning.

Looks like Secret Santa struck. I have been told to wait for two Amazon packages, so I'm excited to see what else is in store for me.

thanks replacement santa!

Edit 1: Ontrac, the regional package delivery service, came by today and dropped off another package from amazon today- on a holiday no less.

This one was nicely wrapped. I left it alone for a few minutes so I could enjoy the mystery. Finally, I tore it open.

Catan Histories: Settlers of America – Trails to Rails

This was a very Catan Christmas. Thanks again replacement Santa!

Edit 2:
Apparently, replacement Santa wasn't done. UPS came by late in the day with a very large box. My wife asked if I had ordered something, and i said no. She opened the box only to find a giant foam alphabet letter puzzle playmat. She said that it must have been from my sister who buys us a lot of baby stuff, and we had been eying exactly this for about a year (we actually have a place already picked out in the kitchen).

I knew better. I had talked to Santa about having a nine month old little guy crawling about my house. So when my wife looked at the packing slip and said "Who's Todd"? Oh, that's just Santa.

Awesome.

Edit #3
Apparently Santa lied. There weren't two Amazon packages, or even three Amazon packages, but four Amazon packages. I came home tonight to find two packages from Amazon on my front door. One was a cookbook on tea parties that my wife purchased (the kind with doilies, not the angry old people who rail against socialized medicine while collecting medicare), and the other was an expansion that I've been anxiously awaiting for a year or two.

Empires: Builder Expansion

I have already read through the rules and the new role and buildings look awesome. Plus, the purple is an awesome 6th color (way better than crappy white). Plus, the country powers are a nice touch.

I was one of the unlucky people who didn't get a gift from my santa for the holidays, luckily there was a new round of santas and this one came through

I got two messages, one telling me he was there and one reassuring me a game was incoming.

The box arrived today. Quite big, found the name of a norwegian web store on the label. Hmmm, what could it be....

Summoner Wars master set Something I did not expect at all, as I've not seen any stores that carry it here.

I've already taken all the faction decks I had and put it all in the big box.

Thanks Santa! Love it.

Hmm now I just need to resist buying all the other decks. whistle
