Thanks for the nod! I don't know whether anyone has tried the variant yet, but I'd love to hear what people think about it. :)

Michael Gorely has made a good variant for a solitare match. Works with the basic game too.
3. Board Game: Redemption: City of Bondage [Average Rating:5.67 Overall Rank:4022]

This game has a solitaire variant right in the rules but it still needs a little tinkering to make it workable.

You can allways play against the clock...

Or do a 17-chip marathon, trying to beat your previous score. "Par" for 17-chips tends to go somewhere in the range of 100 for me, although sometimes more and sometimes less. I have gone as low as 86 moves for all 17 chips.
5. Board Game: Runebound (First Edition) [Average Rating:6.37 Overall Rank:1002] [Average Rating:6.37 Overall Rank:1002]

There is an extremely simple way to make this multiplayer on the geek. I believe you simply pay one gold at the end of your turn or lose.

I've played several solitaire games of Taj Mahal using the posted variant. It's interesting and challenging.

I've played two-player games with a third player dummy using the posted dummy rules, but I don't see how a solitaire game would work. I mean, all of the dummy's cards are drawn from the top of the deck, so unless you are counting cards, you really don't have any idea what the dummy is going to draw. I don't think this would work very well solitaire. It would be a good way to teach yourself the game, though.

I agree that the variant does work well for a solitaire game. It's not perfect, but what variant is. This game is definitely more fun with live opponents, but using 2 or more "dummy" players and playing solitaire style is still challenging and fun -- in a unique way. The goal beomes more of a "beat the cards" game, but what solitaire game doesn't have this element.

Woo-Hoo! My solo-variant got in here!

Another great way to play solo is just to play with 1 hobbit... it's tricky (card drawing is a nightmare), but I've done it before at 12... never at 10.

I just play the two player game as solo variant, playing both frodo and sam. Works great.

LOL, I've never heard about a hentai card game before. It even has a GULP and a D-P card. I really hope that nobody would need a manual for "playing" this on their own though.

This doesn't really have a solitare "variant". Since it's a cooperative game, solitare play is automatically possible in the rules.

Vanished Planet has a built-in solitaire variant. It is rediculously hard to win that way though.

This is a puzzle-like game even for two players. But the puzzle-like qualities are even more enhanced in the solitaire version. I would not call this a great game for one, but it is a nice diversion occasionally.

plays well solitaire IMO. basically, you have 40 turns to complete a quest, beef up, and attempt to take on the big baddie. go over the turn limit and he wins. track turns on the 1 page "placemat" rules included with the game.

every 3-4 turns you place 1 minion on the map at predetermined locations (they are on the 1 page solitaire rules), making movement increasingly difficult.

basically a race against the clock, goes fast and is a worthy challenge. i used the solitaire rules to learn the game before i brought it out on game night.

20. Board Game: Puerto Rico [Average Rating:8.34 Overall Rank:2]

As if Puerto Rico doesn't have enough going for it, I find it to be extremely enjoyable when played solitaire. You can play any number of boards you like, too. Just take each turn as if you're looking out for that "player's" best interests.

First thing you'll notice is that every game is razor close because there's no clueless player there to screw it up. Well, there might be, but since it would be you, it won't be noticed!

The second thing you'll find is that this is an excellent way to sharpen your skills at the game. You can try any oddball strategy you've never had the nerve to try against live opponents. You can try combinations of buildings you've never tried before. Or you can just play the game "straight," practicing how you would play or react in each situation that comes up. It's surprisingly engrossing as a solitaire exercise.

I have invented some rules to play this solo by adding a robot opponent. I posted them in an article on the game's page.

I've actually played this solo against myself (one of those play-against-the-game types... like LotR)... Anywho, I think that variant is posted in Citadels... if not, I'll post it in a week or so.

Any of the Crayon Rails games CAN be played solo... This is very useful in learning where everything is on the maps you may not be familiar with...

You can play blokus in solitaire form too, by trying to get as many coloured bits on the board as possible while still playing by the rules! The new Spiel De Jahres (spelling) winned Ingenious has a solitaire game too, but I havent plaed it yet, so cannot verify.

I've gotten back some interest on my solitaire variants... I'll be posting those in the next week. Oh, and I forgot about one... Bohnanza is one of my favorite games to play solo... that, Carc and Bang have to be my 3 favs. Citadels isn't bad either (I think the solitaire variant that I use is already posted... maybe not)
