A large box, tied with string. This is the first time the tape monkeys have deceived me and taped the contents - the tiles are taped together with masking tape! (likely donated that way?!?) $2.99, Auburn Salvation Army.

I also got a package of vellum, new in shrink for $.99.

Went to the comic store, dropped of a D&D 2nd edition Wizards Spells cards that I nabbed for a couple of bucks at Goodwill. Got $15 store credit and ended up buying comic books (YAY!)

Swung by the Roc thrift and nabbed this for $2, missing the red dice but has the white markers and..

..this for a buck. My Thrifting plan for the year is this:

A: List on Uber-bay within the week or
B: List on the geek marketplace within 3 days

If I can't flip it, I'm not buying it. (Of course, if it's something fantastic, 'flipping' it means putting it on my shelf and getting rid of something else.) I'm gonna be a zero sum thrifter for 2012.

We call that reducing your carbon thriftprint.

For me, I'll be doing something similar -- I have a thrifted TV armoire that is about to become the Game Cabinet (once I refinish it). If it's full, and I thrift something, and I want to keep it, something else will have to go to make room.

$1.75 Hip 70's edition that looks like it was illustrated by the same person who did my childhood edition of Pay Day. Looks unplayed. My buddy at the thrift store went into the back to find any new board games for me especially. Unfortunately, there were mostly puzzles. Shelf pictures are from another store where I got nothing. I didn't get shelf pictures of this store.

On the shelves in the fourth picture is a game that's just right for a 3M bookshelf game, but is black with hot pink on it. Unfortunately, it seems to have been out of view when I took the picture. (I think it's to the left of Tribond Kids.) Anyhow, it's been there for quite a while now and my heart jumps every time I see it because it looks like it might be the very well rated PanzerBlitz. But, in fact, it's the very poorly rated Beat Detroit.

I considered every Ravensburger, but our kids have at least a couple of dozen Ravensburgers (love how the boxes are a few standard sizes!) as well as many other games. They're getting four more large box games for Christmas. So, I have to be picky. We'll be ditching a few more Ravensburgers after Christmas. Our copy of the Squirrel Game went in the last ditch. It was sad. I so love Ravensburger games.

I looked at Pirates Dice, too. All the dice and cups were there, but it's a big box for not much value. I could pirate the pirate dice, but I don't think we have a single game with a skull theme! The pips seemed to be tinted pink. Is that normal?

Love the die for homeschooling. We sold our big copy of Scattergories and the enormous die that went with it. This die has a more friendly set of letters and fits better in our school box of dice. And, hey, another timer!

Images are from another store where I bought nothing. What is it with those lunchbox games? All three shown on this shelf were empty. Of course, when I do see them "with" the cards, they tend to get very quickly scattered by shoppers' little ones.

Picked this up Friday at the Goodwill at Vivion and North Oak Trfwy in Gladstone. Box is in pretty good shape, and the strip of tape all around pulled off very easily. All the components are in great shape and look barely used. Only missing the purple adventurer figure.

Cost was $0.99.

We plan to try this during our family game session on Christmas Day.

Last night I drove 3.5 hours each way to meet a fellow geek who was selling his collection. He was liquidating his entire collection, except for 2 franchises, for personal reasons. (If you happen to know who this is, please respect his privacy.)

The next couple hundred items - 232 by the spreadsheet - are from this epic lot buy. My average cost per game is $11.15, factoring in gas and financing (used a balance transfer check to get the money quick).

This may be not so thrifty for some items, but awesome for others. But after asking in the comments, it seems most of the respondents want to see.

Thus begins my end-of-year coup attempt devil

As a Board Game Geek owned these games, the items are in great played shape unless otherwise noted.

So - first item is - The Board Game Geek Game!

$11.15 in epic lot buy.

To be continued in no particular order...

So Paul, what's your plan with these now?

Obviously, many of us would be interested in MANY of these games. But try as we will to offer things to trade to you, there are two problems:

1) You now have everything. Ever.

2) You'll probably want to recoup your thousands of dollars spent acquiring this. And trading games for other games probably won't be too appealing for you.

I'm sure it'll take you days to assimilate the very concept of your new collection. Stay strong!

But if/when you do figure out your method of recouping/liquidating your windfall, please keep us informed!

(And if you do it through a series of BGG auctions, perhaps you'd consider giving a thrift guild member discount, if we include the secret handshake in our bids... thumbsup )

Have fun with your new games! Awesome haul, kudos for your awesome instincts to recognize the value, and for having the gumption to go for it.

Now, it's time for me to hand out 225 thumbs

Yes, I should address this.

I have things on this I want to keep; I also have things I want to try, then decide to keep.

My gamegroup has already given me wishlists and I am working out payments for them for those things I don't want, that they do. For instance, the Warmachine units will probably be slowly sold to a local friend who is trying to get Warmachine going here locally.

And finally, yes, the goal is to recoup the investment so trades are kind of out - my collection and trade info here on BGG is out of date.

Best thing I can say is to watch Geekbay. Though I won't be doing much until after Christmas.

Thanks for asking!

I don't know if I should say "great deal" on some and "wow you got ripped off" on others, or...nah, I'll just enjoy the ride.

Got my copy from Burlington Arcade off Regent Street in London in 1985... An OK pastime for inside golfers, but no decisions.

It was nearly noon on the west coast and no thrift list, so I figured it was fair game to make another one!

Don't forget to give thumbs to last week's list!

To all of my BGG friends: I wish you a very happy and holy Christmas. I am immensely fond of this online community and am happy to be a part of it. Best wishes to you for 2012.

Usually around this time of year, I'll attempt some cleverness with a Thrifty themed poem or carol. This time, I figured a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll send my Thriftmas wishes this way:

- The Thrifty Lottery -

The numbers 41, 440, 467 and 509 are the winning tickets in last week's Thrifty Lottery. Congratulations go to paperclip187, tkeep13, Alexbren and emmersonpoole.
They are the winners of one shiny coin each. The winnings have been added as tips to the corresponding listed items on last week's list.

This week there's another Thrifty Lottery with 4 coins up for grabs. You can find the details and previous results here: The Thrifty Lottery - Outline & Results

To all of you again...

Good hunting. Good luck!

Thrifty Lottery 4d580 = (41 + 440 + 509 + 467) = 1457

PS: many many thanks for donations to the 2012 lotteries!
