Out-of-print games, rare games, etc.

Please help populate a list of games worth about $100 USD or more.

Please list the approximate value in USD the game can typcially sell for on the current market. Also specify if it's only a certain version or edition that's worth that much. Include expansions and everything or anything worth a lot of money.

(The GeekList is sorted such that the highest ranked games will appear first.)

Usually above $100 (but not by much) this game is a popular one. Here is one on eBay at $85 with 4 days to go:

Again, I was lucky. The seller on Ebay clearly didn't know the true worth of this and had it on as "buy now" for £10!!!! It was sold "as is," but was perfect.

The fact that I was and am waitng for the re-release of an updated version via P500 probably sometime next year did not stop me from getting this one!

arrrhBelieve it or not: I got a copy of CRUDE in Ebay USA in May 2007 for 51 US-Dollars.
The seller had no gallery picture, and the first picture you saw was one of the rules booklet, the second was of the box with two layers of heavy silver tape wrapped around it.
I took the chance, got it and the tape with some effort off without a trace...

Could potentially be one of the most expensive boardgames if you buy all of the figures that can be played with the game. Entire collection could run over $600.

Depends if you want to buy all the minis of the current 5 different factions. But even doing so, and you must remember that each faction expands it only a little, I doubt it will be more than US$200. The point of those factions is that if you already have the minis for their Confrontation game you can easily plug them in. The game itself comes with everything you need and most of what you might want.

Sure and if you bought all the Scorpion and Griffin Figs the Price is Horrible.

But the game is palyable out of the box, and the price tag is already hefty ((80-100 Bucks depending on your exchange rate))

This isn't a game that started off for 20 buck 20 years ago, and now is worht mega bucks this is a current game in print, that happens to be worth with the base set and expansion about 150 bucks US. That's current retail on it, not after market.

This is the game that immediately came to mind when I saw the title of this list. When I look at my game collection and consider either the worth and/or cost of my games this stands out as the Boardgame I have spent the most money on since I wanted to have all the figures that were playable with the game. I don't play Confrontation or Ragnarok. I think I have spent close to $500. Don't forget that really cool figs like the Dasyatis Clones are over $20 a pop. Check out this link for an up to date list of all playable figs:

I'm assuming that means above and beyond the base game, you'll have to buy a lot of support miniatures? Hm, my local gaming shop has this game, it's $80 USD, but that's the normal list price. I've been tempted to buy it, but if I have to spend another $200 on extra miniatures to make it playable, I might just pass on this game...

You definately do not need to buy a bunch of support miniatures to enjoy the game. It is a lot of fun with just the base game and/or the expansion Nemesis.

In fact the difference between some of the abilites for the additional miniatures is not that different from each one another. The models are obviously very different even if their stats are similar. I just really like the sculpts and wanted to have all the available miniatures more as a collection. The miniatures all come with cards for confrontation as well so you get quite a bit of play for your money.

Also, keep your eye on e-bay. They don't come up that often but they usually go for well below retail when they do. I bought both of my copies for less than $50 each. One is still in shrink.

Bought it some time ago with expansion for 20€ + shipping to italy = 40€

Then in a shop bought a couple miniatures to add to the game, EFFIN HELL they costed like the game itself! Should have bought them from the website!

They unfortunately ran out of stock of everything hybrid except miniature pieces.

Sixth game in the Great Campaigns of the Civil War series. The series originally was published by Avalon Hill and then taken over by MMP when Avalon Hill folded. Problem was MMP decided to abandon the series and the result is two games in the series are now extremely hard to find. This one unpunched can go for $250 on Ebay.

I remember grabbing this game and a couple of other of the series from Avalon Hill during there clearance sale!

I have the whole set and still debating punching the counters to play. I suspect I might just do some color scans and make my own counters to play some day.

You are sooo right. I try to get one 1853 for maybe 2 years now. Its always the same. This year I saw it on Ebay and thought: "wow this game comes up on Ebay once a year. Now or Never." But I was out after bids reached 150EUR. gulp
Then a few month later it came up again and I thought: " Wow the game coming up once a year is here the second time! A SIGN!" But then was out after I realzied even 130EUR are way to much for me at the moment. (Might be the same auction you bet on? )

Anyway I have a friend owning 1853 so even if not owning it I can play 1853, which makes me feel better.

I first heard about this game in 1990 but could never find it in the shops (very pre-net shopping). It never appeared on E-Bay either....until last week. It is now mine for £75.00 and the final fight was a costly affair between me, a French, German and Dutch bidder. This game is rarer than rocking horse do-do's.

And what really sucks is that the game without the additional tiles of the expansion is hard to play.... Great game though.

Go have a look at places like Deep Thought Games. Kit games sell for well under $200. In fact they usually sell for $50 - $70.

Ok, I have to add this because apparently it isn't even in the SAME BOAT as the other games mentioned (and no pun intended)!

Next time you see this game pop up on ebay, add it to your watch list, just for fun. The last unpunched copy I watched went for over $380!! Yes, that three-hundred eighty dollars (plus shipping)!!! And it's on the freakin' P500 list already! So I'm not sure why anyone would pay this much, since it's going to be reprinted before long.

I also find it odd that there's a whopping ONE photo of War Galley to choose from on BGG. You'd think there would be a hundred...

Hilarious. I have an unpunched copy on my shelf which I bought from a game store several years ago for about $60. I just bought it because it was then just out of print, and it had a good rep. I doubt I'll ever play it, so I should just sell it.

Sweet, had no clue, just picked it up at Goodwill because I thought it looked cool for $2. Box/board in nice shape, missing 2 pawns, 1 jewel holder, 1 bridge, and the struts for bridges; but playable, and overall I'm very happy!

This is the only game on this list that I have. I was lucky enough to find it at a thrift store for $2.99, and thankful that I'd spent enough time on BGG to know to grab it. I was really blown away when it proved to be complete. My son likes it thought, so can't cash out.

I have an unpunched copy that I won on ebay a year ago for around $80. Since then, I haven't found a soul to play me so it sits there unpunched still.

As the price goes up, I'm still looking for that soul (just not as hard...).

Typically runs between $150-$200 for a working tower/complete components, thanks to the famous intellectual property theft lawsuit in the early '80's that pulled "Dark Tower" off the market prematurely. I imagine a pristine copy (no split box edges, none of the little plastic flags broken) would go as high as $300.

I mentioned to an apprentice electrician at work in passing I was looking for a copy of this game and he said he owned one. I traded a New England Firearms .17 Magnum Rimfire rifle for my copy and have never regretted it. My son and all his Halo buds love to play and I still do too. This game and AD&D were my childhood.

Don't forget sometimes you can find a nice collection of old skool Magic The Gathering cards at thrift stores and swap meets. I know a guy who got a box from an estate sale for $70 that had all the Moxes and a Black Lotus inside (200-500 easy per card, sometimes more if in good condition).

My BIG question is when you buy these RARE expensive games for $200 - $500.

Do you bite the bullet gulp and play them and later on take the loss in value? cry

Or do you keep them secretly hidden away so no one can ever see them again. zombie

What's your thoughts???? whistle
