I wanted to make a list of the most popular games to play with your wife/ girlfriend/ spouse as chosen by the members at bgg. I am doing it as a reference point for myself and, I hope, others here at bgg. I’ve went through every Geeklist with a Tag of “wife,” “girlfriend,” and/or “spouse” and recorded each game that was added as an item in a positive manner. By “positive manner” I mean, if a game was added either by the owner of the list to say that he and his significant other enjoyed it, someone added the item as a recommendation or when positive feedback came to an item added by someone looking for recommendations. I went through about fifty-five Geeklists, recorded over 200 individual games and over 500 votes for those games. What will follow are the TOP 25 vote getters of Games Recommended for Wives, Girlfriends and Spouses.

One of my highest priorities when buying a new game is to ensure my wife, Jen, is going to enjoy it as well. Jen is my main gaming partner and if she doesn’t like the game, it doesn’t get played and judging by what I read on the other Geeklists, it is much the same for everyone else.

Each game will have its Name and Votes Received.

*Any comments made about the games are Jens and my opinions. Please remember that the point of the list isn’t what I think, but what we have all contributed to the Geek on this matter. I am adding comments, as I hope others do, only to add extra information to the statistics provided.

I love Pandemic for two people. My husband and I have often played multiple games in a row, varying the roles each game to try out different combinations. We each play one role. One couple we know say they play with two roles each.

Coops are great, especially when you want to avoid adversarialness.

I agree; competitive games tend to get really brutal between me and my Wife so we enjoy co-ops a lot. We just picked up Pandemic recently and are enjoying it immensely.

I would also recommend Pandemic's little brother; Forbidden Island

Seriously this is one amazing little game! It's 2 player sepcific with wonderful art and superb mechanics.

It hasn't got that much attention except from quite a few people who haven't played it that much but those that invest the time (which isn't that much) it is a gem and it gets rated highly so ignore its current rank. You have to play about 20 games to really start to appreciate the subtlety of the game.

This will definitely come into its own, once it gets a little more main stream. When almost every move is "take that you fool!" her feelings don't get hurt, because as soon as you conspire against her nobles, she can go and "minister" your alliance and watch you writhe in "mock" agony.

I love this game and most of my girlfriends take to it right away, too. I think the colorful fruit is a big attraction, but there's a lot of excellent strategy involved, too.

My husband isn't as a big a fan because the windmill movement makes it hard to plan ahead. He plays it to make me happy, though. :-)

This is not really much of a 2-player game (some of the races/powers do not lend themselves to so few players) but it plays for 3-5 and is at its best for 3 or 4. The appeal for the ladies, though, is the gorgeous artwork and that it is confrontational without being ruthlessly so, thereby allowing a choice between an aggressive or restrained strategy at no cost to the chance of winning. It is also ridiculously easy to learn and play and the match up of races & powers gives it great longevity. My wife loves playing this one.

Good call.

Like Lost Cities (which it is not like) there is good tension that comes from wanting to collect and trade in sets while at the same time not overly helping your opponent. All of which is made worse by the uncertainty of the card draws.

Jaipur is a great game and a great addition to this list.

Well, I am a "wife and girlfriend" and I like this one. Very simple, easy to learn (has about 3 rules you have to remember) and beautifully made. It is a bit abstract, so maybe not for beginners. Oh yeah, we have the travel version, so we can take it with us on travels or when visiting relatives etc. There is no difference apart from the size of the board.

(We like other Gigamic games as well)

Favorite game of the missus, because she has won every single game we played so far, from at least half a dozen games. I don't know how she does it and how she manages to pull that all the time.

Well, up until yesterday that is, when I won my first game by completing my collection before her, so she had to complete hers with a non-perfect collection. That difference in victory points gave me the upper hand. We'll see if this game is still high in demand if I start winning more.

Another favorite of the missus, because the rules are very easy and a game only takes about 10-15 minutes. And because she does win quite regularly, of course, after she realized that she has quite a good chance of doing so.

Takes only one sheet of printed paper to manufacture, laughably easy to construct. Gameplay is similar to Carcassonne, I heard.

I for one don't understand the fuss.
The solution I devised was to give her a 10 minute massage if I won and a 20 minute massage if she won. This is for 60 minutes of gaming.
Now when we finish a gaming session she is already going through the shelves looking for the next one so she has time to think through her strategy.
I'll have her playing the ASL Starter Kit scenarios within a month at this rate.
