5 NOV. Füssen Schlosses
Sun! It's a bright warm beautiful sunny day! After breakfast we went to see Schloss Hohenschwangau and Schloss Neuschwanstein. You must take the guided tours, bu they're not that great. Esp the former, which only took us through 10 areas! Schloss N, though, is beautiful! And we did a HELL of a lot of walking and climbing - including a long trek to Queen Mary's Bridge (to get a great view of scaffolding over the entire side of Schloss N!)! On the way down the mountain we stopped for a light lunch at the hilltop cafe, and got some fried sugared donuts for the walk.
After we got back to town, we walked around a bit (stores were open!) and saw some stuff from the walking tour (info at tourist office). We ended by quickly going through Hohes Schloss (mostly 15th century?, with fake 3D paintings on the coutryard walls!) and art museum and climbing the tower for nice views of the area.
We had dinner at the hotel restaurant -- decent salad for me, though not as good as other recent salads (M had Swabian cheesy noodles which sadly included a stinky cheese). M wanted crepes but we didn't find any. Instead, we had huge ice creams at the nearby Italian ice cream parlor! Mmm mmm creamy! I think we replaced any fat we may have burned off (and then some!).

GeekList: Wife+Game=Need Your Input
Fairy Tale is a great, fast playing game and the card drafting mechanics add to the overall enjoyment of the game. I've played a couple of games with my wife and she approves, but mostly I play it with my 9-year old daughter. Tons of fun. |

GeekList: Hey Parents: What is the current hot game(s) with your kids?
My kids (8 & 13) have played this do death. Literally, the cards are breaking down. With most games at our house, their interests come and go in waves. This is currently the best wave to catch right now. They also love many of the games already listed. |

GeekList: Lunch games from 2008
This is one we played some last year, and yet hadn't pulled it out again until today. We've gotten so accustomed to the "old standards" (Rage, Tichu, Mystery Rummy #2) that this has fallen by the wayside. Well, we brought it out with three players today, and it played just as well. It uses a card drafting mechanism (take one, pass the rest) to build a hand of cards that you then play, with each card being worth points, and possibly having some effect, notably flipping cards face down or face up. Only face up cards score. Additionally, there are some "symbiotic" cards, which score more if you have more of some other type.
With people familiar with the game, a game of Fairy Tale can certainly fit into a 30 minute time frame. We played twice at lunch today.  |
