Had a 50% coupon at Half Price Books today, but went there and saw nothing I wanted. They had a bunch of wargames, but I'm not interested in that. Ended up leaving there and went to Value Village and found Times Up! for $2.99.

Last tuesday, I played a game of No Peace Without Spain!. As regular readers of my contributions to these geeklists now, I love this game. And this time, like all other times, it again showed how good it is. We had a lot of battles, a lot of sieges, and in the end my generals just gave up on defending Bourbon France ... in the penulimate turn alone, four generals were captured. I say penultimate, but actually it was the last turn, as I gave up once Vendome & Villars were captured.
On Friday we had Eurogame night. First we played a game of Cosmic Encounter, where I received a very useless power & so could only observe the two women co-winning. Then, we played 7 Wonders where I succeeded in beating the score of the newbie player (but secured the title of "most military points" which counts as winning to me ). Afterwards, waiting for the rest of the players to finish their game of Stone Age, we played three quick round of Identik, which I won based on a 10-point-describer score. Yay, won the party game! Subsequently (wow, I need so many synonyms for "then" here) we played Time's Up with 10, and amongst our 40 people were such easy-to-charade people as six philosophers (Kant, Nietsche, Rousseau, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle), four classical composers (bach, mozart, haydn and beethoven - well, the movie dog), two assassins (John Wilkes Booth and Enzio Auditore), two crowned heads (Queen Marie Antoinette and Kate "sister of" Middleton), Dr. Mengele, ... We finished the evening with a quick game of EPYC.
On Saturday I played two games of Legend of the Five Rings with . In the first game her Crane-speed-honour deck defeated my Yoritomo's Alliance shooty guys (although she lost multiple clan champions to my ranged attacks, Kakita Yoshi's double imperial favour saved her provinces). In the second game, her Dragon-honour deck was on the way to again defeat my Yoritomo's Alliance when their reputation was saved by my ragequit
On Sunday, I played a 2-player game of Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game. I wanted to win by tech victory, but it turned into an arms race as 2-player games often do (I had to do arms race as he quickly got 2 great people generals). The first battle was won by his lvlII Horsemen defeating my lvlII artillery, but in the second battle my newly-bought lvlIII infantry defeated his horsemen. That's where we ended the game, as I had clearly won it.

Typically, I have let the rounds run until evening so I can work on the update from home.
Given the craziness of my life right now (baby due in less than 3 weeks, play testing too many games, and just a general confluence of events), end times may need to change. Looking at the end dates of the next 4 rounds, something conflicts in my evenings.
Therefore, the ends times will most be shifted to the afternoon, and will unfortunately be "random" given whatever time I have available that particular day. So consider this fair warning:
We are in the final hours of voting for this round. Ending sometime today.
Push for the final votes now if you planned on doing so. This round will end sometime after 1:00 pm Geek (Central) time tomorrow, Thursday.

My sweetie crapped out after Eclipse and I had driven myself (woot) so I stayed to play a couple of late night games. This took a REALLY long time since we had 10 people but it was pretty awesome. I had never played before and had a blast. Would like to try again.
One of the best things was another table of about 10 people playing the same game on the other side of the room as well.

At last the reconfig was upon us, and Table Three opted to begin a six player, three-team game of Time's Up!. The teams were Steve and Ivan, Amanda and Nina, and Ryan and Eric.
Time's Up! is a party game, and as such it actually might make a reasonable late late night choice. For a regular reconfig, however, it lead to way too much jocularity; we at the CBBS must observe proper decorum or face the disapproving looks and even the occasional "tsk" from their peers.
The game is played over three rounds, where you try to get your teammates to guess the names of various celebrities. The names are the same in each round, but the clues you can give are more and more restrictive (i.e. no actual words in round 3), and so general hilarity ensues.
Amanda and Nina crushed their opponents in all three rounds - 20, 23, and 16, for a 59 point victory. Steve and Ivan scored 12 in the first round to Ryan and Eric's 8, but the tables were turned in the final two rounds (6 and 10 vs. 11 and 14), giving Ryan and Eric second with 33, landing Steve and Ivan in last place with 28.

I tried this game during a gaming weekend with my parents, brothers and their families. It was such a blast, at least with this crowd (and perhaps a bit intoxication). Well, actually I played an Icelandic version that claims it's an Icelandic game from A to Z, but the rules are identical and the setup is identical, so I guess it's basically the same game. The players draw a few cards and look at them, then pile them together to form a deck of cards. The players then form teams of two. During the three rounds of play the players try to get their partner to guess the correct word/person etc. that they're acting/describing. Correct guess means that the team keeps the card, the rest is passed on to the next team and so on until the deck is finished. After the first round the number of cards is tallied for each team. Then the next round begins with the same cards. The catch is that everything's allowed in the first round, then you can only act and say one word in the second round and in the last round you can only act.
The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game I did try three solo games of this one last month, but while I would've liked to have it top my list of best new games, Time's Up! was just so much fun that this one is demoted to second. Great game none the less, and I'm definetly going to play a few solo games later. One thing though is that I expected a longer game, don't know why, so I was a bit shocked after losing my first one! After losing the second and third I got used to it...

Our club has several versions, each come in little bags. Which is not bad, as the original boxes started to look really bad...
